Hi, I'm Nicola. I cannot write funny bios.

I grew up in Monkstown, Co. Dublin and studied English at Trinity College, Dublin and at Hertford College, Oxford. I worked in publishing for several years before writing my first book The Out of Office Girl, which was shortlisted for the RNA Romantic Novel of the Year 2013 in the Romantic Comedy category.

My second book, If I Could Turn Back Time, is out now from Headline. I like cooking, running, watching make-up lessons on YouTube, New York, California, Friday Night Lights and Stila eyeliner. I live in Highbury, north London, with my husband and no cats (yet).

There are so many wonderful privileges - but I think the best thing ever is hearing from a reader that your book brought them pleasure. I will never get tired of that.

Also, if ever anyone is mean or bitchy to you, it's actually great because you can put them in a book.(less)

‘I don’t have time to write’ and what this really means

Look, I’ve said it myself. And I’m still saying it (have you SEEN how long it’s been since I even blogged?)

The funny thing about ‘I don’t have time’ is that it’s more about the thing than the time. Rarely do we say ‘I don’t have time to scroll mindlessly through my former colleague’s holiday photos’ or ‘I don’t have time to browse the Outnet’ or ‘I don’t have time to press t

It's funny you should ask that because … I wrote about this recently on my blog. It started as a random idea for a short story, and I got the idea for a series while having tea with my agent. Read more here if you like; http://nicoladohertybooks.com/ See Full Answer

Disappointing. I liked Gardis, loved Elizabeth and the tea-shop plot but really - John was too unbearable. And the plot sort of went nowhere and the whole thing felt a bit chilly and depressing. Read Westwood, by the same author, instead.

What a great book, with one of the most brilliant portrait of a pretentious author EVER … I think this is even better than Cold Comfort Farm.

SO GOOD. I just re-read this, thinking it might not impress me as much as it did when I first read it aged 21 … but it was even more absorbing. Brilliant from start to finish; very nearly flawless. Loved it.

"I loved this second instalment of Nicola Doherty Girls on Tour five part series. Each part is a stand alone novel about one of the girls but the stories are interlinked.

I love Lily, she is feisty, fun and sensitive at the same time. Lily is an out o" Read more of this review »
