As for Snow Crash, I read it a few years back and found it sort of interesting but also sort of a mess, and not all that deep. I’ve heard his other work is more substantial.

Thank you for your thoughts - weirdly the ambivalent, mixed messages made me more curious and now I really have to read it. :D Well, at least if other people vote for it, my TBR is already very long.
I've long been curious for The Forever War too (and have it in my Library), but also just recently read the graphic novel (which I've understood to be very loyal), so, suddenly I'm not in too much hurry with that anymore ^^'(It was wonderful though, so I def won't object to it faring well).
I went and added:Anthony Ryan's Blood Song
and
Max Brook's World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
I really liked both of these (don't judge Z by the movie, the book is far more interesting). Most of the others that I've read before, I'm not ready to read again. And like a lot of people, I voted for books I already own.
Mareike wrote: "I'll be over here crossing my fingers really hard for The Stars Are Legion, Boneshaker, The Forever War, and The Master and Margarita."I voted for Master and Margarita, since I wanted to read this classic for ages. Since it certainly won't get enough votes, what about a BR next year? :D
LOL, Anthony, Nine Princes has by far the most votes at the moment!I took a different tack this time and only voted for the books I own and haven’t read. There are many others on the list that I’ve read before and wouldn’t be averse to rereading, or at least throwing my hat in for if it is a close vote.

That's pretty much how I did it as well, at least for my first pass.
@Anthony: No need to apologize! That makes perfect sense! I went for books I've been meaning to read for a while because there isn't really much overlap between my real-life tbr-shelf and the list.@Gabi: Yes, let's!
On this first pass I voted for books I already own, plus City of Bones because I would like to read more Martha Wells. I'm definitely up for Leviathan Wakes, plus the classics I Am Legend, Foundation and Starship Troopers. There's a few more, but those I'm most interested in right now.
I'm sure I'll go back and add other votes as things progress. :)
While searching for a book on my kindle I realised that I apparently somewhen bought City of Bones and Station Eleven, so it would be wonderful if folks could vote for it. Then I'm forced to actually read and not always just buy stuff.
Gabi wrote: "While searching for a book on my kindle I realised that I apparently somewhen bought City of Bones and Station Eleven, so it would be wonderful if folks could vote for..."Me too! Both of those are supposed to be great, the first page of each seemed awesome, I own them - but haven't read them yet. They definitely got my vote!
I've read City of Bones twice, it's a personal favorite from its time period (mid '90s) and I give a hearty thumbs up for a reread. I might not read it a third time myself, but would be happy to join in a discussion of it.
@Anna, I only have an iPad, not a laptop. When I open the google sheets document, it doesn’t allow me to sort so I can more easily see what’s leading in the voting. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Or is there another method by which you could share the voting? Sorry about this, and thanks!
I will still be doing updates in this thread like before, no need to rely on the spreadsheet. And like always, I was going to start the updates a few days after the newsletter goes out, since that brings in a lot of votes.

I would have missed this were it not for the newsletter, and even then I had trouble finding this link as there's been so much chatter already. Maybe a new thread each year?
Cheryl wrote: "I would have missed this were it not for the newsletter, and even then I had trouble finding this link as there's been so much chatter already. Maybe a new thread each year? "The thread title says "Voting is OPEN", and everything you need to know is in the very first post :) And we will have a new 2020 thread once it's actually 2020.
Ok, I assumed that the first thread referred to the voting for 2019.I mean, yes it's only 2019 now, but the first round of Voting for 2020 has started already and Ends this month, *before* 2020. So, it doesn't work with my intuition. I don't know if I speak for others or not; maybe I'm just weird.
@Chris thanks, that’s helpful. @Anna sorry, when I open that spreadsheet in the google sheets app, it just displays the results in alphabetical order by title, and I can’t seem to click on anything to alter it.
Oh wait, I just tried again and it loaded in voting order. Not sure why that didn’t happen the first time...
I had it open on my iPad and had to close it and reopen to see the sorted tab after I edited it. Glad to hear it works for others, too!

Out of the 12s I have Dawn, His Majesty's Dragon, The Killing Moon, and Left Hand of Darkness. Anyone?
Already voted for them, so can't do anything more to help Foreigner and Homeland up, but seconding the rallying cry! Folks, join in \o/There are unusually many on top now, which I've already read.
There is a lot of time left. I’m going to use my reread the Rereads votes for some judicious influence later when the closing is imminent. But I could vote for any of those you mentioned, @Amanda, and happily reread them. Unfortunately, @Anthony, I have a different book by RA Salvatore on my TBR shelf, so I can’t, in good conscience, vote for the Drizz’t one. I might, however be induced to read Foreigner, because I’ve been intrigued by that one for a long time.

So.
It would be super duper awesome if these books got selected:
Foundation (since there will be a TV series so I want to reread it)
All the Birds in the Sky (since I want to read something from Charlie Jane and tell her if I like it)
Little, Big (since Gabi and I want to read it and would be great to have others too!)
The Quantum Thief (since I am curious on how difficult it is) 😆
Help me reduce my TBR. Who knows, some of those books might be in yours too. Let's VOTE and CONQUER!
Ask and you shall receive. Voted for a couple that I’m interested in, but especially The Quantum Thief. Also voted for a couple j read this year because I’d love to discuss. Would love to get Wool up there since I recently read and enjoyed Half Way Home by Howey.
City of Bones is what I'd love to read as it's in my TBR pile. It also looks like it's a stand-alone book unlike the first two in the voting results so far (I don't need to start another series)
As motivation for voting for Foreigner, I’d like to mention that it’s currently only $2.99 in ebook stores in the US...
Anna wrote: "The Goblin Emperor is standalone!"The Goodreads is incorrect as they say that it's

The Witness for the Dead
(The Goblin Emperor #2) <---------------------
here's an interview where she discusses the next book
https://www.steampunkjournal.org/inte...
They're companion books set in the same universe, that's why they're marked as part of the same series. Goblin Emperor stands completely on its own.
I finally got around to placing my usual unread standalone votes, minus a few longer ones that I'd have trouble fitting into the first quarter of 2020 if they won. I voted for 24 books.Speaking for myself, when I say standalone, I’m not being precisely literal. If a book stands alone story-wise but has or is expected to have other companion books that leverage the same world-building, I still treat it like a series. I prefer to reach such books together so I can appreciate subtle connections, however minor, and maintain my immersion in the environment.
Silvana, Little, Big was one of my votes. I’ve already read All the Birds in the Sky and The Quantum Thief, so I can’t help with those.
The results spreadsheet is great Anna, thank you! It’s fun also to be able to see the entire list, including the four lonely books at the bottom that not a single person has voted for.
I’d like to see World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War win. I think it's gotten close a couple times but never quite makes it. It’s another nice standalone, and who doesn’t want to start the year off with a zombie book? It helps you appreciate how awesome the year is already going by comparison! :)
Of those that are close to the cutoff, I'd love to see the following get a bump:World War Z
Snow Crash
Of books mentioned recently, I've already voted for World War Z, Foundation, City of Bones, Homeland.I'm hoping to read some Brandon Sanderson and it looks like Elantris currently has the best chances, so... any takers?
I believe I voted for Elantris since I haven't read it in Kindle format and my read in paper format was quite a few years ago (I count these books towards my TBR pile)
Meredith wrote: "... I'm hoping to read some Brandon Sanderson and it looks like Elantris currently has the best chances, so... any takers? ..."Elantris has my vote.
CBRetriever wrote: "City of Bones is what I'd love to read as it's in my TBR pile. It was originally supposed to be the first book of a series, I believe, but that didn't work out. Not to worry, it's a complete story by itself.
The Killing Moon is quite cool on its own merits and also interesting because it was actually the novel that Jemisin submitted first, but the publishing world wasn't receptive to it at the time. So she was a boss and wrote a whole other trilogy (starting with The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms) and after that the publisher put out this one. It's the first of a duology but it can easily be read by itself.
I'll continue to stump for Snow Crash and add The Golem and the Jinni!
