Virginia (vlgrantham) | 48 comments I've participated in the readathon on and off over the last few years, but haven't really jumped into the social side of things. Inspired by the bingo board, I'm ready to do more this year!

message 2: by Leni (new)

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 566 comments The social side is great fun, but it does tend to cut into the reading. Lol
Book Bingo is really fun though.

message 3: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I've participated on Facebook in the past but at this time I'm only on Goodreads. There's a LOT of activity on here the day of, try not to get overwhelmed! The Bingo board seems super fun! Do you have a reading list planned?

It sure does, but as you say, it's a lot of fun too!

Happy readathon Virginia!

I've started with listening to some of the Invisible Man audiobook, which I don't plan to finish today since I still have several hours. I plan to try to finish my Spookathon TBR -- Small Spaces, The Walking Dead, Book One, and Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel.

Virginia (vlgrantham) | 48 comments Mini-Challenge: Modern Classics

I'd love to see The Miseducation of Cameron Post endure as a classic. An often intense coming-of-age story about a lesbian main character, I think this book is an important to our society's conversation on identity and acceptance. Trigger warnings for homophobia and so-called conversion camps.

Yes, it's already cutting into my reading time, lol. But I did turn on my audiobook right when the readathon started, so I've done some reading!

Thanks! I've already gotten some reading in and been doing some posts, so I'm having a great readathon so far!

Oh good choices! I have Invisible Man audio but have not listened to it yet. It was an Audible freebie. Good luck!

Good to hear!
I'm off to a bit of reading in bed and then some hours of sleep...

Virginia (vlgrantham) | 48 comments Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now? I'm about to pick up Small Spaces as soon I can drag myself off Goodreads
2. How many books have you read so far? The Walking Dead, Book One and two hours of the Invisible Man audiobook (which I do not plan to finish)
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel if I can stay awake for it!
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? My husband and I went out to see the show School of Rock, and I listened to my audiobook during intermission. My sweet toddler also wanted me to read books with her, and I could never resist here!
5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? I haven't read as much as I thought I would by now, but I'm having fun!

Cora (corareading) | 128 comments Glad that you are having fun!

Virginia (vlgrantham) | 48 comments With a little over 9 hours remaining, I've completed all but *ONE* space on my bingo board. I still need to read 2.5 hours to get 8 hours read. Totally doable in the time we have left, except I'm ready to go to bed! I'm going to try to keep pushing through with Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel.

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments You can do it! Go for that Bingo Blackout!

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 56 comments How is Hocus Pocus?? I'm a big fan of the movie (who isn't) and went to Salem for the first time this fall! Is it worth reading?

The retelling of the movie was fun to read, and the author added in some details, I think to make the second part work. I've heard that the second half is more like fan-fiction, but I think it will still be fun. I watched the movie for the first time *just* this year, and I'm obsessed. I think the whole thing is fun for fans.

*jaw drops* You just saw the movie for the first time this year?! *faints* It scared the crap out of me when I was little! lol. I go to Salem every couple of years, we're only about 2-ish hours away. The last time we went was the government shutdown though so the tours were done by unpaid locals who just enjoy the history and it was better than usual! But some places were closed too so my husband who was going for the first time didn't get the full effect. We'll probably go back next year.

I know! I *cannot* believe no one ever made me sit down and watch it! I randomly rented it from Amazon a couple of months ago and watched it three days in a row. I have my own copy now, obviously. I have never been to Salem, but it sounds like a really awesome trip. I would love to go sometime!

message 25: by Virginia (new)

Virginia (vlgrantham) | 48 comments I'm finally back for another readathon! I got a late start this morning, but I started and finished The Witch Boy by Molly Ostertag. I've got a few more graphic novels lined up, plus some Harry Potter and a couple of novels.

message 26: by Virginia (new)

Virginia (vlgrantham) | 48 comments The Hidden Witch and The Midwinter Witch are now complete! Such a delightful and heart-warming graphic novel series.
