Review : A great book but it just didn't feel like a finale. I loved Alanna's story but I have so many unanswered questions. So many books today are too ridiculously long, padded and this one could have been an 800 page epic and still had room for more storylines. :) But I do recommend reading this series, especially for younger kids.

Claim for 3 or more books in a series bonus point.

Review: This was a good book overall. It's basically a twist on the zombie trope. The main character is a little girl, Melanie, who is being kept under heavy restraint at a research facility/military installation. She and several other children have been infected with a fungus that has caused most people who come into contact with it turn into Hungries, zombie-like flesh eaters. For some reason, Melanie and her fellow students have retained most of their humanity, but still are compelled to attack if they scent a human. When the facility is overrun by Hungries, Melanie, the head of the lab, Melanie's favorite teacher Miss Justineau and two soldiers are forced to flee. As they travel toward a home base known as Beacon, they learn to trust and rely on one another to survive. I liked this novel overall. It was a bit long - I think that the author could have eliminated some scenes but it's definitely a four star book.

Allison Ann | 502 comments I'm sorry, I'm going to sound mean here, but the lack of communication in this group is driving me insane. Books are supposed to be finished and posted on Thursdays so we can roll first thing Friday. Yes we have all day Friday to finish and roll but the spirit of the game has us finished and posted on Thursday. If you aren't done, couldn't you please just post something giving us a timeframe? Thank you.

Sorry, I'm in so many challenges and chose an unnaturally long book.

Review: This one had a slooooooooow start for me, but once I got to about the halfway mark it really started to pick up and got really good. I loved how atmospheric it felt (historical fiction is not my usual genre) and it was downright creepy at times! My main complaint is that things are revealed a little too early for my personal taste, but overall a solid first entry and I look forward to continuing on with this series.

Are you okay if we use the free pass? I chose an unnecessarily long book which I'm trying to finish but won't be able today.

Review: It felt like I was reading book 2 of the series. The author tried to fill in information, but we didn't get the full background. Maybe that was intentional, but it didn't work for me. And I got tired of hearing about her bitten ear. Sort of like Alexia Tarabotti's (Soulless) nose and skin tone.

Review: The doctor and Martha arrive on a dead ship that is barely working. But what killed the inhabitants and why is there a whole other world connected to it. They go into this other world which it seems the kids are disappearing. This one was part sci-fi and part fantasy. The ending is interesting.

Review: Another decent installment in this series. A quick read. A little violent at times (more so than I remember the previous installments. .. but nothing over the top). Definitely dated … you can tell by the descriptions of the characters' outfits :) A good solid read that I enjoyed and I look forward to the next installment.

Review : I love Mercy Thompson. She is my favourite series heroine and this is my favourite UF series. She is smart and brave and real and for a world full of magic, Patricia Briggs doesn't rely on magic fixes very often. Every book so far has been unputdownable for me. :) Even the magic romance which generally has me rolling my eyes is right in this book. Mercy and Adam just work.

I'm sorry you've been having so many problems this challenge. Sounds like RL has truly interrupted your reading, which is no fun, but happens. Is there any chance you will finish your book or are you just going to give it up as a bad job? We will need to make some changes as a team if you are leaving, so if there is a chance of finishing, please let us know.

Lexi | 351 comments Slytherpuff wrote: "I’m behind on my book and it’s not likely l’ll finish by the deadline. If I get disqualified, I enjoyed playing with you"

If you don't finish, you are out. Sorry that RL or other things keep happening.

❖If a player fails to have their book done two times throughout the game (excluding a prearranged absence) they will no longer be a part of the team.

We would need a new captain and would not be able to roll this week.

message 228: by [deleted user] (new)

You would be able to roll once I’m disqualified. Even if I’m disqualified I’m more than willing to roll and do the reviews anyway. I’m going to try to finish my book if at all possible

Allison Ann | 502 comments I double checked with Denise just for my own understanding. If Slytherpuff doesn't post her book review by 11:59 p.m. Central time Friday, she is disqualified. If everyone else has posted their review by then, we can roll and continue on without her. I have the time that I didn't have when we first started, so I am happy to take over captain duties if no one else wants them. Marty has said she should be done her book on time and everyone else has already posted their reviews, so I think we'll be okay either way.

Review: I really got into this book and it was pretty scary until the big 'shocker' reveal. It kinda petered out after that. The premise is that the narrator, Ethan, his girlfriend, Mel and three others go hiking into the infamous Suicide Forest of Japan after their planned climb of Mount Fuji is derailed by weather. The forest almost immediately becomes sinister, and someone or something is stalking the group. One of the group either commits suicide or is murdered, setting off a tidal wave of horror/paranoia among the characters. There were a lot of great scares throughout the story. I enjoyed it overall.

Yesterday, I read for 3 and a half hours. Today, I hope to read for up 7 or 8 hrs to finish. My goal is to finish by 10PMEST. I have a good chance of finishing if I read during play rehearsal

Slytherpuff wrote: "Will add review and rest of it tomorrow"

Slytherpuff, I'm sorry but this will not work. When I say "your review needs to be in by deadline", I do mean that there needs to be an actual review. As a consequence, I have to count this as you missed the review deadline again and are therefore disqualified. Again, I'm sorry, but while I try not to be too much of a hardass in interpreting the rules, this just crosses a line and would set an unnacceptable precedent if I allowed it.
