So, long enough, unlike my initially pencilled in book!

Shelf 4: Paranormal Romance

Date read: 4 Oct
Book: A Court of Frost and Starlight
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Pages: 272
Fits: 53 shelved
Rating: 3*
Review:
Whilst there's no big explosions, death or double-dealing, I did enjoy this money-spinning instalment for what it is - a link between the major story arcs with some insights into the lives of our characters and hints and future stuff about to go down. It was nice to have some quiet times with them too, and to see some of the healing work that needed to happen post-war.

Book: Dark Lover
Author: J.R. Ward
Rating: 5 stars
Didn't want to put it down; Enjoyed the humor; Couldn't wait to see what happened next; Disappointed with the abrupt end of the book (I couldn't believe it was over); Definitely will read next in the series and possibly this one again.
The introduction to the rules and way of life fit into the story well as Beth and Butch's paths were revealed. I found the characters and their personalities well fitting. The respect for leadership, unwavering loyalty, bantering, teasing, bruised egos, and physical altercations are exactly what I have witnessed in the world of law enforcement and the young adult "macho male" population.
This one was a Good Read!

Amy, I guess SOS Bingo is the best time to get into reading a series like BDB - should be able to fit into a number of the categories :)

Book Magic Breaks
Author Ilona Andrews
Rating 4 stars
Review:
Magic Breaks is another of Kate Daniels disaster/adventures. It was suspenseful and I was definitely surprised at the turn of events. There were a few times when my thoughts were along the lines of “why would you think/do that” and “stop whining”. This was what brought about the rating of 4. Overall I enjoyed the escape to Atlanta.

I just started Prince of Thorns and it is ace! the MC is violent, amoral and compelling, and I've been racing through it. With a bit of luck #2 will fit the next shelf. :)

All good. I am adding them slowly as we speak whilst finishing up my book for the week. I I have already added your PNR since it is the same as mine :-P
I have requested our own it stamp and request our free space stamp shortly and then write my review for PNR

You enjoying/ed ACoF&S?

Review:
For such a short book, this took me longer than i expected to get into it and if I had not been reading for it for a challenge, I cannot be certain i would have pushed on with it. I am glad I did though as I really did enjoy the second half of it and it left me ready and waiting to read Nesta and Cassian's book, which I guess is part of the point.
I think part of my problem with the first half was the fact that it was told from another of different view points, and as it has been over a year since i read A Court of Wings and Ruins, it took me a little while to remember who everyone was again and what had happened to each of them individually towards the end of ACOWAR.
The second half of the book gave me holiday themed feels and I started to remember why I liked Feyre and Rhysand and their friends and family so much. Sarah J Maas managed to give all of them their moment in the sun and that made them come alive that little bit more.
Over all I am glad I finally read this and look forward to the future spin off books of the series.

You enjoying/ed ACoF&S?"
I started to reply to this post and then realised i was essentially writing my review so instead i just posted my review :-P

sorry, i am captain of a team #6 on another challenge and was posting stuff for that today also and obviously confusing myself. Will change now :

Ooooh :-)
I've been meaning to get my claws into that one. I've had a physical copy for years now but never got round to reading it. and I was a little apprehensive for a while about the nasty main character (though in the meantime, I love me a good bad guy, anti-hero, whatever). After the awesomeness that was Red Sister, Jorg has been pushed back up my pile considerably!

Only word of warning: there are no female characters to speak of.
Oh! speaking of awesome books, did you get around to reading The Fifth Season yet? that series (Broken Earth) is genuinely fantastic - and totally worth the three Hugo awards on the trot (first time that ever happened!)

I love that her stories aren't straightforward, and that you do need to put a bit of effort in, but that that effort is totally rewarded by the rich worlds & characters.
I've not read the Dreamblood books (yet) - so many other books to read, and I'm a bit wary of her earlier work being a let down to me after Broken Earth. by the by, I listened to the audio of Broken Earth, and that was brilliant too - the narrator (Robin Miles) did a good job on making the POV switches make sense. I'm fussy about female narrators (having been forced to ditch a couple of audios because of bad voices), and Miles was just perfect.

Will try to squeeze these two series soon.
I don't listen to books on audio. Just can't concentrate. My mind always wanders offf...

Only word of w..."
There are a million (strong) female characters out there, they do not need to be in every book ;-)
But no, I still haven't read Broken Earth! The books sounded really good though so I think I will get myself a copy of them soon - there is a lovely box set hitting the market soon and I love me a nice box set to put on my shelf hehe.

Review:
I'm not sure how a book combining time travel, 1920s New York (speakeasies! gangsters!) and vampires can end up being so.... Meh. But it was.
I didn't engage particularly with either of the main characters, the vampire wasn't terribly exciting, the plot didn't really do much, and the romance had to much of the "we were meant to be" flavour. All in all, very underwhelming.
Ah well...

Hahahah!
Some people are just odd ;-)

Review:
This book has been on my TBR for 7 years so I am really glad I finally got a chance to read it. I have always loved time travel stories, especially time travel romance, and this the reason this book caught my fancy initially.
I found this really easy to read and was halfway through the book before I knew it. There were a few small plot holes here and there and some things that were a wee bit far fetched even for me, but overall I really enjoyed the flow and the substance of the story and I mostly liked the MC, Gabbi. I found the story to be more of a rolling pace rather than an action filled intense pace over all, though were definitely intense action filled parts, but by and large I felt this pace worked well for the story.
I wasn’t completely onboard with the romance, it was a little instalove for me and some of the circumstances around the romance itself left me a little unsympathetic towards Gabbi and Marcello, but over all i did enjoy the tale and have already started listening to book 2.

A great call for our Bingo card as once we finish it we will only need Druids for Bingo but not so great for my reading comfort zone LOL

Review:
This is the second in the series about the peculiar children. I enjoyed this story. It was interesting with unexpected revelations and a satisfactory ending. The adventures of 16 year old Jacob and his peculiar friends are action packed as they travel across hidden lands present time and back in time.

I'll read Whiskey Burning as it's
- 8 people shelved as motorcycle-club
- short @219p
- free
'cos this isn't really my thing either, so I'd rather not invest shed loads of time or money into the book
and then we start chanting for Druids next week!

Book: Phoenix Unbound
Author: Grace Draven
Date read: 6 Oct
Pages: 400
Fits: tagged by 12 people as paranormal-romance
Rating: 4 stars
Grace Draven is one of my favorite if not even my favorite fantasy-romance author. So I was eagerly waiting for Phoenix Unbound to be released.
LIKES:
✔ Well-developed world.
✔ Realistic characters.
✔ Slow-burning romance.
DISLIKES:
✘ There is an area called 'Stara Dragana'. While it does not mean squat to non-Serbian readers, to me it meant 'Old Dragana' and my name is Dragana... So it irritated me every time I read it. >.<
While Phoenix Unbound did not blow my mind like Radiance, it was well written and I mostly enjoyed reading it. Recommended for fans of fantasy romance genre.
