Review:
This was deeply frustrating. One one hand it was a quick read and had the promise of an interesting plot line, on the other the characters were irksome and not particularly real. I do not believe that men have to get "release" just at the thought of hot girls, and they can go hours without having to have sex... but apparently not, if you are an alpha-type in these sorts of books (and I don't mean just MC books). Ditto, however hot spanky might get a person, there does have to be context too. If you are in the middle of an argument a few spanks won't suddenly switch your brain from "fight" to "funtimes".

That said, it could have been much more egregious, and did tick the quick to read box.
I'm not going on to book 2 though, especially as reviews say it's basically the same book but with different names!

Cat (cat_uk) | 105 comments How's everyone getting on with their books??

I'm busy finishing off non-challenge books to clear my decks for the NBRC Wheel fun, which starts on Saturday night (UK time).... getting excited for that nonsense to kick off!

Nikk, I know you are in that challenge, but Amy & Dragana, I'm not sure if you guys are?

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments Nope I am not in another team challenge. Didn't sign up because I was not sure if I will have time. I have been too busy lately.

I have read all the books. Just have to check if I have written all reviews. I have a feeling I missed something.

Date read: 20 Oct
Book: Craving Constellations
Author: Nicole Jacquelyn
Pages: 305
Fits: shelved 81 times as motorcycle-club
Rating: 1*

Love stories with bikers usually are not my cup of tea, but I had to pick a book with biker for a reading challenge. Since I liked Fostering Love series by Nicole Jacquelyn, I picked up Craving Constellations hoping that maybe I will like it too. No such luck.

Why this book did not work out for me?
✘ Heroine is always running to a man to solve her problems.
✘ Hero/Dragon is involved in gun smuggling/trade. And it's represented like it's ok because he is better person than heroine's husband who had a legal job but was abusive. I can never agree with this attitude. Yes, I know that all people involved into illegal activities are not bad, but who knows how many innocents those guns killed...
✘ Even if I approved of Dragon's professions, I still would not like him. Because he kept saying jewels like: "Fuckin' cunt. Couldn't even let the man drive the fuckin' car; she wants to have a dick so bad."

Shelf #6 Motorcycle Club
Date Read: October 22, 2018
Book: Reaper's Fall by Joanna Wylde
Pages: 384 pages
Fits: shelved 63 times as Motorcycle Club
Rating: 2*
Review: I have never had interest in this type of book and I still don't. I cannot relate to the characters or their lifestyle on any level.
The setting for Reaper's Fall is small town midwest America. The main characters Painter and Melanie repeatedly make poor decisions and have me thinking..."why would you do that". The sexist crude stream of thought that would flow from Painters pov was more than annoying, and the moral of the story seams to be hot sex creates asshole blinders.
This book did not win me over as a MC Book club fan.

review:
This genre is not usually my cup of tea but I enjoyed this book more than I expected to. It started slow in the beginning and took me a while to get into it but the second two thirds moved quite quickly. It was a little all over the place in the beginning and it felt like it took the author a little while to find her stride in the story but eventually the story started to take shape and I started to become more invested in the characters.

I mostly liked the Lex/Kellech pairing but there were times and lex and Kellech on their own but there were times that Kellech's Alpha "protector" nature seemed to cross the line a little and Lex wold seem to forget she was a strong capable female and let him but generally i though Lex stood up for herself well.

I liked learning more about the paranormal element of this world. having read the first book of the other series set in the same world, there were some familiar characters though this centred on different characters and species fro the previous book I had read.

Overall I enjoyed the read and gave it 3 1/2 stars

Shelf 5: Time Travel

And what would you do if it keeps replaying over and over again...
Very interesting book. Recommended.

Book: Stardust

Review:
I enjoy how Neil Gaiman can write stories that feel like they have always been in existence, and he's just polished them up for us (Ocean at the End of the Lane is a classic example). Stardust is very much like that, with a mix of elements visible - classic fairy tale tropes of accepting help (cautiously!), horror (the Lilim), romance (Victoria, Yvaine) and idealistic young men. I enjoyed it very much.

oh, and "shifters" - well, the Witch-Queen shifts shapes, and there is the bird/girl too - forced shifts rather than weres, but I can accept the lone shelf as not being completely left-field!

Shelf #7 Shifters
Date read: 10/28/18
Book: The Vampire's Mail Order Bride by Kristen Painter
Pages: 370
Fits: shelved as shifters 26 times
rating: 4
review:
This was a really fun read and looks to be the start of what should be an entertaining new series. When Delaney James witness a crime, she swaps identities and pretends to be a match being sent to a potential husband...who just happens to be a vampire and lives in a town filled with supernaturals and where it is halloween every day.

Right from the beginning this book grabbed me. I instantly liked MC Delaney and I also liked the tone of the story, which didn't take itself too seriously and relatively light and fun,(even in the more serious parts). I also fell in love with the town and the residents we got to meet there. The story itself resolved around Delaney and vampire Hugh and while it was more romance than mystery, there wsa a nice combination of the two in a plot that flowed well and that kept me interested all the way through.

I am definitely planning on picking up book 2

So after two endings, this series continues yet again. High Voltage brings us Dani's POV and resolves some of the loose ends left.
At times it was a lot romantic, I did not expect it from this series. Fever is usually more about action and stopping the bad guys then romantic HEA. But I guess we have been waiting this for a while.
Can't wait the next book to find out what's Mac cookin' in her room. ;)

Review:
Daine has a knack with animals, and a secret...
This is a decent installation in the Tortall universe, with Pierce's typical female character - can-do attitude, a little bit special but not perfect. I could've done with less time in Daine's head and more in the wider world, but then this is a story following Daine's introduction into a new world, so it's not entirely surprising we didn't see more.
The Stormwings were awful inventions, and the dragon was cool...

Storm's Heart is the second book in the Elder Races Series. The focus of the story is Tricks (a PR rep who is transitioning to be the Queen of the Dark Fae) and Tiago's relationship. It is a quick read with a suspenseful story line. I found some of the banter annoying but enjoyed the book overall.

And to think I gave up on 'Elder Races' races series some times ago. Then I read the first book on a whim for a dragon category of a challenge and decided to give it another try. I skipped re-reading book#2 which I did not like and jumped into the next story/couple.
Serpent's Kiss is a great PNR novel. The character's have great chemistry. And again Thea Harrison makes quick relationship and mates concept work.
I also loved the world-building, which is more complex than in some urban fantasy novels.
I will definitely read more soon...

review:
nother entertaining read from a fun series. I think this may just be my favourite so far. Will is fae and ran her way from her family and her life she didn't want when she was a teenager and has found her place in Nocturne Falls. Nick is a gargoyle and ex-army ranger also looking to put down roots in Nocturne Falls. After a misunderstanding accidentally binds Nick to Willa, the two start to realise they actually have a lot in common...

The storyline in this book was a little different from the last two which made it all the more fun and I liked that we are starting to learn more about the different supernaturals of Nocturne Fallsbut still got to visit with some familiar ones. I really liked Willa and may have swooned just a little bit over nick. ;-P

Like the first two books, this story was an insanely quick but entertaining, relatively uncomplicated read with all the warm and fuzzies that a good sweet romance brings.

Cute fun and entertaining. I look forward to reading more of this series

Shelf #9 Urban Fantasy
Date read: 11/13/18
Book: Hidden Currents by Christine Feehan
Pages: 441
Fits: shelved as Urban Fantasy 19 times
rating: 4
review:
Hidden Currents is the last book of the Drake Sisters series and I really enjoyed this instalment. In many ways, the order of this book seemed a little turned round with the kidnapping and then daring rescue happening at the beginning of the book and the rest of the book dealing with the aftermath and stopping the big bad.

In terms of just this book's story, I felt like we hadn't really seen to much of Elle before this book so we really only get to know post kidnapping Elle. I liked Elle and Jackson as a couple and thought they blended together well especially in the way they were there with each other through some very traumatic experiences. Their connection and chemistry seemed genuine wand I liked them together.

As as the conclusion goes, being a series conclusion as well the the instalment conclusion I guess I expected something bigger but in the end the solution, while not easy as such, still seemed somewhat easy to come by. There were quite a few threads left loose and whether this is because there is another new series set in Sea Haven after this, which i think centers around the Prakensii brothers

All in all while, I did enjoy the way some threads were tied up with characters from previous books brought in, this didn't really feel like a series conclusion and the ending ended feeling just a little rushed.

That being said, it was still an entertaining read and I give this book 4 stars

Review
A standalone book about magic and power-crazed magicians and a serial killer and fights to the death and legal wranglings and.... and lots of stuff!
Set in NYC, in the Unseen World, the big magical competition "The Turning" has just started. The Turning is a chance for the magical families to jostle for dominance and position in the hierarchy, via a series of magical duels, some to the death. So far, so fun. But.... magic is going wrong, and there's a new powerful player in the game who has her own agenda.
I really enjoyed this. There was a lot going on, but I kinda liked that. I loved the characters and the premise, and am a bit sad that the book game to an end, as I'd love to explore the world more :(
