They say you get what you pay for and that’s almost the case with this book. I paid nothing and the book gave me more than nothing but not by much. The heroine was a cliched sassy, quirky, pretty thing. The hero was a generic handsome, nice guy. The plot was a thin story about running away from a mobster after witnessing a murder. It was pleasant enough but nothing I’m going to continue.

It's not bad written and it's a fast read, that's the reason of the three stars. It's not my cup of tea, however. My unbelief has not been suspended at all and there are a lot of thigs which scream impossible for me, and one of them is not the existence of supernatural word, so you can imagine. And this instant-lust..., ot the boring (for me) threesome... Well, let's say I'm not going to continue the series.

Lexi is finally getting married. When at the dress shop trying on her custom dress she runs into her high school nemesis, who’s custom dress is pretty similar. They preceded to get in a vicious cat fight. Later on, Veronica, the bride, and Philippe, the dress maker, are found dead and Lexi is suspect number one. Unfortunately for her, her sexy detective fiancé is taken off the case and the gum snapping rookie is put in charge.
This is a fun, cute little read to fill in the time. Lexi’s grandmother and her senior gang provide humor and we get our happy wedding.

I'm not sure how to rate this book it's not a two maybe a low three stars . It's a strange mix of mystery and paranormal striving to be an Urban fantasy, but not really a cosy either . The main character, a dowser who draws magic to her, was quite difficult to like. She oscillates between fabulous business woman and complete TS TL . I guess it just felt like another one of those books where the heroine is really special but she doesn't know why. She's been kept in the dark her whole life and suddenly there are hints about her true heritage. Overall I think it's probably worth trying out the second one because there were some interesting elements even though the mystery part was quite obvious .

I’ve had this book for the longest time and for some reason never got around to reading it. As you might expect from the title, the hero, Maddox, is dark— a tortured male who is a mythical warrior possessed by a demon. The heroine, Ashlyn, has her own torments and is kind of a sweet bumbler with, of course, a backbone of steel. The romance is of the falling in love with your kidnapper sort which walks right over lines regarding consent. I don’t think any issues with this are really addressed by having Ashlyn constantly muse that she really shouldn’t be falling for this violent guy who is holding her captive. But if that sort of thing bothered me too much I never would have picked up this book. The plot is pretty tight except for an actual deus ex machina conclusion although the entity who saves everybody is actually only the daughter of a god so maybe that makes it better. Altogether, though, I enjoyed the book and not having a backbone of steel will probably continue the series.

Review: I had put off reading this one as I didn't see how the villain from the Kate Daniels series could be a hero. This is a spinoff best read according to the authors before the tenth and final book of Kate Daniels. Brought together through a marriage of convenience to formalise an alliance, Elara is a perfect match for Hugh, fiercely loyal to her people, but capable of brutality, as they find themselves fighting a war on two fronts. Of course having read the previous nine Kate Daniels books it was very easy to slide into the world that is a perfect blend of mediaeval sorcery and modern day technology.

The story continues on after the attack on the city. As everyone is rebuilding, structures and lives, a dog and a woman are found dead and seem to be mummified. Similar to Lijuan's victims. This, coupled with a new drug putting vampires into a blood frenzy, means there is a quiet attack still happening.
I love Janvier and Ashwini. Their relationship was already on fire, they just needed to give into it. Ashwini had a good reason to hold back. At first I was rolling my eyes. Oh great, another dark past. But boy, that one's a doozy. We still got a bit of Elena & Raphael, which is great cause they are still my favorite couple. I can't wait to read about Naasir next!

Stephen is a magician who enforces justice in the paranormal world and Lord Crane is a smuggler turned Earl when his father and older brother both commit suicide. They have a charming romance in historical London and solve mysteries together. In this one giant rats are killing people and Crane’s past in Shanghai comes into play. There is also a short story which includes more about Merrick, the Earl’s man of all work.

Review
One more book in this futuristic series by Anna Hackett. Strong women, strong men with some past but not too much angst (great, I really hate the broody type that it's all the time complaining that he is not good for the heroine and thinking about his past). A lot of adventure, sexy and loving moments. A fun and fast read.

Review:
This is #5 in the Aleran Codex series, and I recommend this series for lovers of traditional fantasy. In many ways it is reminiscent of the sagas from the early eighties but with the modern overtones of darkness and vivid battle scenes.
I liked this better than the fourth book although there were more plot threads to keep track of with significant developments happening in each thread. I actually liked this because I have been a little frustrated in the past with filler plot threads. I liked the continuing development of Tavi's relationship with Kitai, the main characters.
But as the series progresses some plot lines appear to have vanished, although there is still one book left in the series to tie all of those up.

Sophie's sister finds her husband dead. This is of course after he admitted to having an affair. Sophie hires the sexy Anatoly to help investigate who did it and this leads to all sorts of revelations about the dead man. It's an easy story to follow along though some of the characters are annoying. And as a side note, the female narrator of the audiobook makes the woman have deeper voices than the men....
