What a great idea! I'm going to add those books to my To Read list. I used to love that show!

Pieces of My Heart A Life by Robert J. Wagner

Caroline | 661 comments Yes, Kate - RJ was one of my first loves (aside from Illya Kuryakin LOL) and no matter what age, I still love him. Finished The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan and am eagerly awaiting more books in the Rick Riordan series (both this one and the Kane Chronicles). It's a shame authors and publishers can't work as fast as I can read. ; )

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness . This is one of those books I wish I hadn't discovered until *after* all three books had been published. I started this book on a Friday and hardly put it down until I finished on the Sunday morning. The author did a stunning job of making the writing so vivid, I was there in the story watching it unfold like a movie, much more vividly than I normally am able to do. Books about magic are a treat for me and this one was not at all disappointing, with plenty of action and a nice balance, I think, between giving enough information to be vivid, but not enough to be graphic. It's going to really suck having to wait until next year for the next book.

Glad to see you liked this one. Planning to start it soon!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Melodie - I'll be interested to see if you liked it as much as I did - and if you see the same possible similarities to Twilight as I did. :)

adlin | 101 comments I just finished The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen by Sarah Addison Allen. Very enjoyable, but I felt like it ended too soon. I guess that's a good thing. I've enjoyed all her books, but feel like her first two books Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen and The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen were better.

Spent the afternoon holed up inside reading The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis, and trying to ignore the wind and sleety stuff pinging against my windows.

One of my reading goals for the year is to reread this series. Or, as the case may be, read the entire series, since I can only remember reading three of them for certain. As this one did not seem at all familiar to me, I do not think I got round to reading it back in fifth grade. A good, fast read.

What? Heather, you didn't keep a reading journal from the fifth grade? Lol!

message 1314: by Jeanette (new)

Jeanette (amomwithabook) When not reading a cozy, I am reading a paranormal or urban fantasy book. Love love love Patricia Briggs, Yasmine Galenorn, Christine Warren, and lots of others. Reading Wolf at the Door by Christine Warren right now. Should be finished by this afternoon. Highly recommend it if you like paranormal romance with shape shifters. :)

Kaye: Sadly, I didn't really start keeping track until 8th or 9th grade, though I can remember some of the books I read prior to that. :-P~~~

Judy, how are finding this book? Is it dry or really interesting? I have his Mayflower on my wish list.

message 1318: by Judy (new)

Judy (julianka) | 38 comments Kaye, I finished it last night and it was really good. It's gruesome in parts, but it's a page turner. I'm considering Mayflower too.

Thanks! Glad to know you enjoyed it and I'm sure there were some gruesome parts. Have you ever read Cape Cod or Back Bay by William Martin? Really good stories with a little bit of mystery in them.

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) | 191 comments I finished two not-cozies:

Play Deadby John Levitt (urban fantasy--the last in a really great series. It counts as a mystery because always has a good mystery plot in his work.)

A Scream of Angelsis more fantasy than anything, but it's sort of urban fantasy. I liked the first (The Heretic) in the series better.

Finished reading The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake Saturday afternoon. Good writing, good story, but...strange. Especially the last quarter of the book. I did like it, but my first thought upon fishing was, "I'm supposed to write a review on this?!" I have no idea how to go about doing so without ruining the ending.

Saturday evening I start something completely different, Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost and am really liking it.

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Almost done with I Still Dream About You by Fannie Flagg and it's very good. Can't wait to see how it ends.

message 1334: by Judy (new)

Judy (julianka) | 38 comments My latest was The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough I only gave it three stars because it isn't quite as thrilling as some non-fictions I've read. Some authors have a knack for making true histories sound like novels, and this was a bit more like reading a history book. But it was good and I read it in a day.

message 1335: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Cool, Judy! I read that book too and occasionally thought I might be the only one. I thought it was really interesting that the alcohol tax in PA was originally approved for relief of the flood victims and is still in effect today! Ain't it amazing how those legislators love to tax us?

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments I am thoroughly enjoying A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness . It is such an intriguing story. I love the characters and the writing style. It kind of reminds me of Harry Potter with all the magic. It also had similarities to Twilight at the beginning but the farther I get into it the less I similarities I see.

I didnt see the similarities to Twilight until I got towards the end of the book myself and I think it was more the overall theme over the three book arc that I think might end up similar to Twilight. Or not. :). Either way, loved this book!

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) | 191 comments Laura wrote: "Maria, through sheer serendipity, I discovered that I like Neil Gaiman's books immensely when listening to them via a CD, but not so much when reading them. No idea why, but there you go..." I've heard other people say they can listen to some books and have to read others. I'm not much for audio, but I do have a road trip coming up and it's really hard to find ANYTHING I haven't read on audio. I've been looking into Alan Dean Foster. My library has a few of his (although I wanted Shadowkeep and it's not on audio.) I've got two Bill Bryson's so far. But I'd like some sort of fiction/fun/adventurous if I can find it...

Thanks for the input. The library probably has his in audio.

message 1347: by Judy (new)

We'll see what the library has available. I read the first few pages of graveyard and it didn't grab me at all and I usually like that kind of thing.
