You might be right haha! And yes! We only have 1 of 3 prompts complete for pages read.

Haha I'll try to pick up the baton and get at least SOME reading done today. Sigh.

I'm officially back home and ready to get in some reading for the rest of the read-a-thon!

Updating the board now.

And Emily was correct. Both the page counts and the audio hours are cumulative so if you complete the greater one then you've also earned the one lesser one.

But we can't count the same portion of a book as both audio hours and pages. If we finish the audio task and someone listens to audio then it could count for "pages" instead, just not both. Hopefully that makes sense!

message 108: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (mich2689) | 484 comments My exact page number is 261.

Here is the poem. “Another Birth” by Forugh Farrokhzad.

My whole being is a dark chant
which will carry you
perpetuating you
to the dawn of eternal growths and blossoming
in this chant I sighed you sighed
in this chant
I grafted you to the tree to the water to the fire.

Life is perhaps
a long street through which a woman holding
a basket passes every day

Life is perhaps
a rope with which a man hangs himself from a branch
life is perhaps a child returning home from school.

Life is perhaps lighting up a cigarette
in the narcotic repose between two love-makings
or the absent gaze of a passerby
who takes off his hat to another passerby
with a meaningless smile and a good morning .

Life is perhaps that enclosed moment
when my gaze destroys itself in the pupil of your eyes
and it is in the feeling
which I will put into the Moon's impression
and the Night's perception.

In a room as big as loneliness
my heart
which is as big as love
looks at the simple pretexts of its happiness
at the beautiful decay of flowers in the vase
at the sapling you planted in our garden
and the song of canaries
which sing to the size of a window.

Ah
this is my lot
this is my lot
my lot is
a sky which is taken away at the drop of a curtain
my lot is going down a flight of disused stairs
a regain something amid putrefaction and nostalgia
my lot is a sad promenade in the garden of memories
and dying in the grief of a voice which tells me
I love
your hands.

I will plant my hands in the garden
I will grow I know I know I know
and swallows will lay eggs
in the hollow of my ink-stained hands.

I shall wear
a pair of twin cherries as ear-rings
and I shall put dahlia petals on my finger-nails
there is an alley
where the boys who were in love with me
still loiter with the same unkempt hair
thin necks and bony legs
and think of the innocent smiles of a little girl
who was blown away by the wind one night.

There is an alley
which my heart has stolen
from the streets of my childhood.

The journey of a form along the line of time
inseminating the line of time with the form
a form conscious of an image
coming back from a feast in a mirror

And it is in this way
that someone dies
and someone lives on.

No fisherman shall ever find a pearl in a small brook
which empties into a pool.

I know a sad little fairy
who lives in an ocean
and ever so softly
plays her heart into a magic flute
a sad little fairy
who dies with one kiss each night
and is reborn with one kiss each dawn.

Tammy | 704 comments Tammy's Sunday Challenge Update:

The final #'s for the day are:

Finished: Writer, Sailor, Soldier, Spy: Ernest Hemingway's Secret Adventures, 1935-1961 - 84 Pages - This has already been updated as our Non-fiction book, but I had not put the page count in for the day.

Finished: Virgin by Analicia Sotelo - 95 Pages (I don't think this counts for anything in the group other than pages. I read it for the beautiful cover on the individual bingo)

Finished: The Eyre Affair - 250 Pages (finally done...I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either) Since we filled the fantasy spot, this could be counted as a thriller/mystery. If that has been filled then it could go on the female main character prompt. (It is also from my ATY list)

Started: The Moon and Sixpence - 96 pages I'm hoping we can use this for the classic. I should complete it tomorrow.

Holy crap! I think that is 621 pages for the day.

I've completed my game for the day!

Makes perfect sense! Even though we haven't completed the audio task, since I've completed my 5 hours of audio and can't contribute further, can I count my audio as pages now?

Also Emily, for the spreadsheet, I've finished two books (A Room of One's Own and Dad Is Fat). Thanks for your awesome work, as always! 😁

message 111: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
Tammy, you've reached your page limit for the prompts, so you don't need to update pages anymore! (Unless you want to! I'll keep cheering you on!)

Jody, we can definitely roll your audio over to page count. Also, does Dad is Fat count for any of the available prompts?

Laura, we've hit 1,000 pages, so we are ready for the reveal of #6! We have also completed prompt #21.

Don't forget to recommend a book and post a poem for us to read!

I'm updating the board now.

I read a whopping 16 pages of Us Against You last night before I fell asleep. But I can already tell that it's going to be great so I'm excited to start really getting into it tonight (and maybe at work today :P)

Sadly not.

message 114: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (mich2689) | 484 comments I participated in the Synonyms and Antonyms game.

message 115: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments Yesterday I read 84 pages and today I also participated in the synonym and antonym game.

What prompts do we need? I'm expecting to finish The Haunting of Hill House today.

I was thinking we need the August/September publishing date prompt. I do have a book for that but was kind of hoping to not read that one this week but I will if we need it for the team. The Night Circus - was published in September.

I can also finish up The Upside of Unrequited and I have Illuminae to read or Before the Fall

message 116: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Hello team!
I have started my audio: The Sense of an Ending, so you can put me down for a total of 2 hours for listening. This was hard to pause, I just wanna finish it quickly. Seems I am quite lucky with my picks for this read-a-thon:)

Also Emily, for the spreadsheet I have finished 1 book with a page count of 130.

message 117: by Tammy (new)

Tammy | 704 comments Argh...I've completed a classic and I thought that would count for our group, but the classic is only for the individual bingo! Bummer. But oh ho! It will work for an author who published more than 10 books slot, though! The Moon and Sixpense and Other Novels: Boxed Set by W. Somerset Maugham.

I'm reading Death in the Andes and that will work for a book originally published in a different language. I'll probably finish it tonight or tomorrow.

I've done my game for the day.

Laura....hope you are feeling better! I'm enjoying your updates.

Jody, how was A Room of One's Own?

Joan, I just saw that the book I am currently reading (The Sense of an Ending) was published 4 August 2011, so we can use that one for the Aug/Sept prompt if you want to hold off on The Night Circus.

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
We have plenty of time (another 7 days!) so don't stress if you are reading books that aren't specifically filling prompts.

I've updated the spreadsheet now, so please let me know if I've missed everything.

Laura, we can clear the box for prompt #10!

message 120: by Liz (new)

Liz | 516 comments I read 110 pages yesterday.

Liz | 516 comments Emily, I was just looking at the spreadsheet, & suddenly the numbers for pages read started changing. haha!

message 122: by Liz (new)

Liz | 516 comments Also, you have Tammy down for 3 finished books in the first completed books box. It's only allowed to be 2/person, so her 3rd should be moved down to the next row (unless you're already aware of that - if so, completely ignore me LOL).

Sorry for the confusion, Emily. My page count for the read-a-thon is 130, I saw you had me down for 180. You can also put me down for 2 hours of audio.

And thank you for your work with this, I know it's a lot!

message 124: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
Liz, thank you for pointing that out! I had missed that.

Hilde, I've updated that! Sorry, I thought the 130 was in addition to the 50 you had already read.

No worries! I'm having fun!

message 125: by Tammy (new)

Tammy | 704 comments I dig a woman who loves a spreadsheet! Good eye, Liz on catching that 3 in the max 2 books section for me!

I have 4 books completed toward the max count of 5 (group total 20?). I have the one book max toward the group total of 3 for the ATY books completed.

I don't know how you keep up with it all, Emily. It is an awesome spreadsheet.

message 126: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
Thank you!

We've reached our goal on the ATY books (and that space has already been revealed), but I updated your books finished. You're killing this Read-A-Thon!

message 127: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments I've decided that I'm going to read There Once Lived a Woman Who Tried to Kill Her Neighbor's Baby: Scary Fairy Tales. This is on my ATY list for the short stories. It can count for:

8. A book first published in August or September
23. A book originally published in another language besides English

It also helps me with the individual Bingo prompts and I got it digitally - I need another digital book for night reading.

I'm kind of excited about this one because it's not a popular book.

message 128: by Liz (new)

Liz | 516 comments I finished reading The Great Divorce. It doesn’t count for any of the challenges, but it is a book for the AtY challenge.

Updating the board now :)

message 130: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1567 comments I have finished a total of 285 pages and listen to 30 min of an audio book.

I started The Lies We Told which is a mystery and The Best Kind of People its a
ATY book but not sure it is needed.

message 131: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 112 comments Yikes, sorry about not checking in earlier! I confused the start dates of the Read-a-thon but I have been reading ! :)

Getting caught up to speed now.

message 132: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11185 comments Mod
No worries Samantha! Just let us know your page totals and if you listened to any audiobooks!

We are still missing book recommendations from Tammy, Sam, Ana, Samantha, and Jody.

We are still missing poems from Laura, Samantha, and Jody.

Please look over what was updated and let me know if there's anything missing! I'm still not feeling 100% (nor really eating anything) so my brain is a bit fuzzy haha.

message 133: by Samantha (last edited Aug 27, 2018 02:14PM) (new)

Samantha | 112 comments Okay, since August 25th here's a quick update :)

- Read 416 pages
Happily Ever After
also works for the Young Adult prompt

- Listened to 7h of audio
Along Came a Spider
also works for the mystery/thriller prompt
also works for the Aug/Sept prompt

message 134: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 112 comments I'm recommending The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. While not a very "plot driven" book, I love the variety of characters and world building that Becky Chambers has created. Additionally, I love spaced themed novels so this one's a winner for me.
