Alabaster Frankly if you actually understand something the U.S.A is doing, you're probably doing something wrong.

Cassi | 542 comments The Canadian system is the same way

message 7853: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Different states start at different times. I start like September 5th. But yeah, there are a lot of weird things about everything in our schooling system.

message 7854: by Alabaster (new)

Yh we start around that time too i think its so we get the summer holidays like not all countries have summer at the same time of the year so they have to plan it around that

Well, I believe it is because if we take that time off we won’t have finished school in time for summer break. Honestly, I think if we took that time off half way through the semester, when we got back to school we wouldn’t remember anything from before the break. Especially if we just forget about school during the break. Although it sounds nice to be inside when it’s cold, I love summer a lot better. And in some parts of America, it doesn’t get very cold during winter. Especially in the southern states.

Sirens Kai (kairabooknerdandproud) | 459 comments In Scotland we are off school for two weeks in October, two weeks in December-January 2 weeks in April and 6-8 weeks from the start of July to the next school year (sometimes they change) and we have the occasional bank holiday now and then

message 7860: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) I think part of the difference is there's different daylight hours, and I'm guessing where you are is more generally warm year round. Where I am, we get pretty much full circle of weather.
My school does two semesters for a term, but this year it's four quarters because of Covid. We have a week off at Thanksgiving (though that's just celebrated in the U.S.), two week of during Christmas and New years, and then we have spring break on March. Other than that we have single days off for major holidays. But yeah, I think there are some major parts of our system that could be better.

lulaareads__ (lulaabell) | 166 comments hey guys quick question. what do you do when you loose all motivation to read ? i’m trying to get into They Both Die At The End but i literally hav NO motivation. any tips?

message 7870: by Sirens (new)

Sirens Kai (kairabooknerdandproud) | 459 comments I go back to reading Harry Potter, it gives me motivation to read other books

message 7871: by layla (new)

layla Tbh I'd just go to where i read most (in my case my bed lmao) turn off any distractions such as your phone haha and just give the book a chance like if you consistently try to read, it might be a bit boring for the first few pages but you should get into a rhythm after a chapter or two and then hopefully find it easier to read the book. Just try not to stop so soon for example after a few lines, looking at your phone etc because then you wont get into that rhythm

message 7872: by Alabaster (new)

Alabaster I've rarely lost motivation, but I always have schoolwork to get back to

message 7873: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Same on both counts.

message 7874: by layla (new)

layla school gets in the way of things like ive barely got time to read my own books because im always reading something school related. The joys of being an english student
