Caleb (caleb27) I shouldn't be up that late, but hw takes too long.

message 7802: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Still don't agree with you though.

message 7804: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Official school hours are 9-3 (that's shorter because of distance learning). I take advanced chemistry and history classes so those give extra hw. And then I have soccer for two hours in the evening, or games twice a week for 6 hours. So yeah, teachers suck.

message 7805: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) How big (population) is your high school?

message 7806: by Alabaster (new)

Alabaster Holy cow Caleb only 9-3??? I've got an 8:pm english class (new england time)

message 7807: by Alabaster (new)

Alabaster Caleb wrote: "Official school hours are 9-3 (that's shorter because of distance learning). I take advanced chemistry and history classes so those give extra hw. And then I have soccer for two hours in the evenin..."

Yeah I feel that. I've got track every afternoon, and then have to deal with advanced physics/ a religion in popular culture course.

message 7808: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Yeah, sports make lives busy. But I would be even worse without them. Before covid, our school hours were 7:40-2:35.

message 7814: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Sorry, that's tenth grade. Secondary school. Not sure how schooling goes in Europe.

message 7815: by lulaareads__ (new)

lulaareads__ (lulaabell) | 166 comments freshman in college

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 153 comments I’m year 10 in Britishness, in high school which is middle school I think

Sirens Kai (kairabooknerdandproud) | 459 comments I’m in 5 year in Scottish secondary school which I think is 10th grade in America

message 7818: by Sirens (new)

Sirens Kai (kairabooknerdandproud) | 459 comments And we don’t have mosquitoes in Scotland but there are midges which are just as annoying

message 7819: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) In America we have elementary school starting at age 5. That's 1st through 5th grade. Middle schools are 6-8 grade. High school is 9-12 grade. After that you can do college, university, or trade school for more options. 1-12 is required, after that it's your choice.

message 7820: by Sirens (new)

Sirens Kai (kairabooknerdandproud) | 459 comments There’s a place in the Hebrides that’s very good for whale and dolphin watching but the only problem is the ammount of midges biting you while you’re watching them

message 7821: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) I've never heard of a midge before, but it looks pretty much just the same as a mosquito.

message 7822: by Sirens (new)

Sirens Kai (kairabooknerdandproud) | 459 comments I’m Scotland we have nursery (age 3-5) primary school p1-7 for ages 5-12 and secondary school s1-s6 ages 12-18 as soon as your 16 your allowed to leave any time and do further education or something else

message 7823: by Sirens (new)

Sirens Kai (kairabooknerdandproud) | 459 comments Midges are like mosquitoes but much smaller so you dont notice them until you feel the tiny sting of them biting you

message 7824: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) We also have pre-school that you can do, but that isn't required. You're also allowed to do some sort of home school. I think we have to go through 11 grade before you're allowed to drop out. But it's a lot easier to get a good job if you go all the way through college.

message 7825: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) You don't even feel a mosquito biting you. What's annoying about them is the thing they inject into your blood stream so that you don't feel them sucking your blood, and then it itches for a few days.

message 7826: by lulaareads__ (new)

lulaareads__ (lulaabell) | 166 comments i’m from america and we have pre-k (4yr old) (1yr of schooling) kindergartens (5yr old)(1 yr of schooling) elementary (6-10yrs old) (5 yrs of schooling; 1st - 5th grade) middle school (11-14yrs old) (3 yrs of schooling; 6th - 8th grade) high school (15-18yrs old) (4 yrs of schooling; 9th - 12th grade)

message 7827: by lulaareads__ (new)

lulaareads__ (lulaabell) | 166 comments and then there’s college or whatever you wanna do after highschool but your not required to go to college unlike the schooling before which you are required too; i.e. pre-k through highschool.

~ameliaclaire~ (ameliaclaire20) | 1852 comments Mod
Homeschool is the same as public schools just at home. The parent or guardian who is to educate you chooses the curriculum to use. Then does the same thing you would in public school, except you get one on one time with your teacher, you can also go to school in pajamas😝 Homeschooled kids still do tests, quizzes and extra curricular activities. However, we do them in are own way, for example :I’ve taken a quiz in a hammock.😜

message 7829: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) I just have two years left, then I get to do stuff that might actually be fun in school apart from sports.

message 7830: by Sirens (new)

Sirens Kai (kairabooknerdandproud) | 459 comments I’m doing school from home right now because of lockdown so I can do it in my pjs lol

message 7831: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Same, lol. It's nice to have a comfortable chair with a blanket. And you can just turn off your camera and no harm done.

message 7832: by Alabaster (new)

Alabaster where I am you're basically required to keep our camera on if possible at all times. It's pretty annoying

message 7833: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) I keep it on for most of class, but if I'm tired I don't. Here, they're not legally allowed to make us keep it on.

message 7834: by Sirens (new)

Sirens Kai (kairabooknerdandproud) | 459 comments We use google classroom instead of zoom so there is no cameras for me

message 7835: by Caleb (last edited Mar 17, 2021 05:36PM) (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Yeah, we use google classroom too. And for classes we use google meets

message 7836: by Sirens (new)

Sirens Kai (kairabooknerdandproud) | 459 comments We use google classroom for everything which to be honest isn’t as efficient to learn on as it is in actual school for me

message 7837: by Alabaster (new)

Alabaster In my case it's a private school, so they can basically just make us do whatever they want.

message 7838: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Oh, yeah, that's unfortunate.

message 7839: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Interesting. We have kindergarten after preschool. And yeah, you'd be the equivalent of a junior here. High school here (grades 9-12) go Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior.

message 7840: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Yeah, junior high is an old term for middle school. That's now grades 6-8 (age 11-14).

message 7841: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) Yeah, it kind of does

message 7842: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) I've heard of that. Again, I think that used to be the standard, but nowadays the standard is 6-8

message 7843: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) What I meant was that schools used to be elementary 1-6 grade, middle school (or junior high) 7-9 grade, and then high school 10-12 grade. Now it's elementary 1-5 grade, middle school (or junior high) 6-8, and high school 9-12. Each school has it's own area. Elementary students would just take another year before going to the middle school building. I think that makes sense.

message 7844: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) No, I'm not explaining greatly. In the city I live in we have like 6 elementary school buildings, all spread out, 2 middle school buildings, again on opposite sides of town, and 1 high school. So each series of grades (elementary, middle, or high) has its own building, and some have multiple for each.

message 7845: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) It's one of those things that you really just don't think about. So it can be difficult to explain.

message 7846: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) We have different buildings near each other, but not really on the same campus.

message 7847: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) You're close to as far away as you can get from the U.S. I have no idea how the schooling system works in Africa.

message 7848: by Caleb (new)

Caleb (caleb27) No, you're fine. lol. It's a big difference.

message 7849: by layla (new)

layla American school systems have always confused me lmao i think its like a year behind us? So for example ive just turned 17 and im in year 12 so would that be the same as like grade 11? (or is it the other way round...)

message 7850: by Cassi (new)

Cassi | 542 comments You would either be in grade 11 or 12
18-17 grade 12
17-16 grade 11
16-15 grade 10
15-14 grade 9 and you get the point
