Lamilla | 818 comments Readathon starts 3am here, I'll join around 7am (Hour 5).
I'll be using the same bingo board as before. My card for this round:
https://bingobaker.com/#687a110003b5b7ba

I'm almost done with Harry Potter 4. I hope to finish it today to close the pre-readathon challenge. The book is the slowest in the series, but it gets more intense toward the end, so fingers crossed...

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1435 comments Looks like a fun bingo card. Have a great read-a-thon! I don't blame you not starting at 3 am! Harry Potter is such a fun series.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1435 comments What a varied TBR! Edgar Allan Poe is always good and Terry Pratchett can be fun

message 506: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments Oh yes, enjoy Terry Pratchett. Have you read any Discworld before?

And now I'm fully awake and can start.

My first book of the readathon is a poetry book I started earlier, Nevermore by Edgar Allan Poe by Edgar Allan Poe. I read The Raven and its various translations, now time to get to the rest of the collection. It is published in XIX century and nicely fits some of the prompts in my bingo card

Thank you, Susy! You too. I'm planning to visit other people threads during the break in reading

Glad to hear that about Edgar Allan Poe! I'm a bit intimidated by him - I remember some of his weird stories from my childhood, like The Cask of Amontillado, when the person is immured!

Great to hear that, Kate! I read most of Discworld, but I prefer his later books, like Night Watch (Discworld, #29; City Watch, #6) by Terry Pratchett and Thief of Time (Discworld, #26; Death, #5) by Terry Pratchett

Lamilla | 818 comments Also, I would need the community help for one of my challenges: post 3 books and let someone choose.
Here are the books, please vote which one I should try during the event!

The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
Человеческое животное by Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir
or
Штормовое предупреждение by 朱山坡

Kate | 643 comments I agree Lamilla, the early Discworld novels aren't nearly as good as the later ones. My favourite is Pyramids but I also love Going Postal and Making Money.

message 513: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments The 3rd one Storm Warning sounds good. I'd go for that one.

Had to translate the blurb of the third one, but I’m going for that one as well!

Lamilla | 818 comments Thank you Kate and Susy! I'll wait a couple of hours more in case other people would like to vote.

My progress so far: I read two thirds of the poems from Nevermore. Despite its name, most of the size is due to biographical material, comments on poems and various additional stuff. I think I'll finish all the poems (about 15-20 pages) and consider myself done with it :)
I also read a bit from The Colour of Magic. I really like Pratchett's sense of humour, maybe it is time for a proper reread of the books I own
I participated in the reading sprint last hour, so overall I closed a number of challenges in my bingo card.

Hope everyone is doing great as well!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1435 comments Sounds like you're doing well and holding up strong. I have only done 4 hours then slept, now just got up basically and checking social media with audio. I have read one Terry Pratchett books in Discworld series and agree he has a good sense of humor in his stories and writing.

Lamilla | 818 comments I joined another reading sprint for hour 12, still with Pratchett book. I had a break for lunch and walked my dog, now back to reading!

Indeed I am!

For the Hour 16 reading sprint I'll try Штормовое предупреждение which was selected by helpful people out of three choices. This is a new to me author, let's see how it goes

message 520: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments I'm going to bed, time to wrap up the readathon.

Overall progress:
I read 3 books: finished a poetry collection I started before the event and started Pratchett and new to me author. I participated in 3 reading sprints and filled two lines on my bingo board. It was a pleasant experience, I enjoyed it very much.

Good luck to everyone who is still reading for the next hours!

I’m going to try and stay up too but this morning I woke at 3.30/4.00 instead of my planned 6am so we’ll see

Cathy (cathepsut) | 567 comments 70 pages left of my current book… I could make it.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1435 comments Yes, you definitely can make that!

It's only 425 pm here in the afternoon though, so it depends how long you've been awake and the time I'm sure

And if the book is good, of course.

message 526: by Kate (new)

Kate | 643 comments How are you getting on with the book we voted for?

message 527: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Kate wrote: "How are you getting on with the book we voted for?"
I might continue with it! I like the language, and judged by the reviews it is a soft magical realism which went well for me in Люди тут у нас by Hiromi Kawakami I read recently

Cathy wrote: "70 pages left of my current book… I could make it."

you can do it, Cathy!

message 528: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 510 comments I always walk my dog too during the read a thon.
I need to learn how to post a picture of her here!
See you in October
