Started Dragon Reborn today... Liked the prologue.. This prologue was much better and understandable than the previous books...

(view spoiler)[ Rand's struggle is understandable yes, so is Perrin's. They find themselves in a world saving matter suddenly while raised in a small village.. They will start to accept/adapt.. Just bare with Mat for some time, he becomes most people's fav latter books, most of his whiny attitude comes from the dagger and he'll get better though it gets better from the 4th book, after the 5th he starts to shine imho..

Also I too like some other people don't like Rand and his 3 lovers.. You are in for a treat for this one because it's only gonna get more complicated for Rand..

I agree your thoughts Rand's attitude against Moiraine too.. Though it's mostly because of people's beliefs against Aes Sedai and sometimes it's true, most of the Aes Sedai love to manipulate and use people, most of the time they don't even realize they are doing something wrong, it seems right to them, I mean be able to use the one power shouldn't suppose to place them high in the hierarchy right away.. I'm not saying its about all Aes Sedai, Moiraine and Siuan Sanche is hard exceptions, I really respect them and their ideals.. But most of them are just plain annoying egoists.. This is probably why I don't like Nynaeve but at least I kind of understand her motives are good and still see a potential for liking her. (hide spoiler)]

I got sidetracked by Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy. (I read the second one while waiting for Dragon Reborn to come in through the library, but now can.not.stop. until I'm finished with the third.) But I should start Dragon Reborn within a week.

Also, when are you guys and gals reading New Spring? I have heard mixed things. Some of you on here have read it as a prequel but I have heard to read it between 5 and 6 or wait and read it at the end. Thoughts?

Side Note: I did some math and if I continue on my current reading course of 100 or so pages a day then I will finish this monster of a series the first week of September (hopefully finishing will be an early birthday present). Seems crazy that one series is going to take up five months of my reading life.

Read it in publication order. I believe that's between 10 & 11, but I'm not 100% positive.

I'm not sure why you'd read it between 5/6 or at the end.

I agree with Rob. I read it in publication order, after book 10, and I thought that fit best. I doubt it would hurt your enjoyment of the series to read it out of publication order, but that’s my opinion on when it is best to read it.

By the time you reach the end of book 5, you’ll probably see why some people choose to read it then. I also think people suggest that point as being the earliest point when New Spring is unlikely to reveal anything that you haven’t already read or figured out for yourself. I disagree though, because there’s at least one character that the book might influence your opinion on too early. And there’s another reason why it fits well in publication order, but it would be way too spoilerish to even hint at it.

Okay so today I finished through chapter 36 of Dragon Reborn and (view spoiler)[I am amazed at how quickly Rand has gone so dark. It's hard to judge his actions because we spend so little of the book with his pov and hardly any with his internal dialog but like that whole thing with the merchant was almost shocking to me.

Also the Selene/Lanfear thing that bugs me is it was so obvious that Selene was Lanfear like there was no who is this very pretty mystery girl. It was blatant that she's obviously on team darkfriend/control Rand. (hide spoiler)]

Reading between 5 and 6 kind of makes sense after what will happens in 5.. I might start after 5, but I'm not sure.

I read it in publication order. It was back when it first came out so I didn't have a choice. I felt it was good timing, but it's been a while.

Rand: Poor boy, who does not yet know how to use his power, does not know the full extent as well.. with these, the trust and the loyalty shown by the others after proclaiming himself as Dragon can be really overwhelming.. Hope he takes right decisions on his journey alone..

Liking Perrin's POV's.. Hope we will get Mat's as well soon..

Finished Fires of Heaven last night. Thoughts below.

This might have been the best one for me since Eye of the World. I enjoyed everything about it. And for the Nynaeve lovers out there, she got bumped up a few points for me in this one ;)

Rand-
Best book for his POV by far. With the help from Asmodean, he is finally learning the One Power. His love triangle is a little odd for me. Maybe Jordan wanted to throw a twist in but I find it weird. I wonder what will happen when he finds out Asmodean is dead.

Nynaeve/Elayne-
Like I said before, Nyn got a few brownie points in this one. Still don't like her temperament but she got better towards the end of the book. I liked how she bounced back from the stuff with the forsaken. Not a huge fan of how Elayne and the other girls are so held up on Rand. I get that he draws them but I don't like how they grovel at him. Jordan makes the women in this book so strong but when it comes to Rand they are very weak. I really don't like how when they found the Aes Sedai, the Aes Sedai just throw them back into Accepted. That is crazy to me. They may not be full Aes Sedai but they definitely are more than Accepted. I mean they stopped the Black Ajah, Nyn damn near killed a forsaken, just to name a few. If I were them, Suian included, I would have left a while ago. The Aes Sedai seem like they know everything and have it handled... Guess we will just have to wait and see if they get the tower back. OH! and Rand named Elayne the queen but Morgase is still alive, CRAZY lol looking forward to seeing more on that POV. Don't want to see what Nyn does when she comes to terms with Lan (I don't think Lan is giving up on her). Hope Nyn keeps up the good work :)

Egwene-
Dropped A LOT of points for me in this book. She was my favorite until this one. I liked how she grew into a dream walker but she is just odd to me now. I feel like she has given up on Rand after she let Elayne "have him". I get that Rand is abrasive but she seems like she doesn't care anymore. She just learns from the wise ones and that's all.

Mat-
Still not his biggest fan but like Nyn he gained some points. I liked how he can't break away from the wheel and when he tried he flew back into it harder. I also thought the spear he found would have more meaning besides the fact that it doesn't need to be sharpened, that could come later though. Felt bad for him when he had to kill his girl though...

Perrin-
His POV was pretty much non-existent... which really sucked. But to be fair, I don't know where it would have fit in this book. There were a lot of things going on in this one and his POV would have been a little much. Still love his POV and hope to see more in Lord of Chaos.

Suian-
Man her POV is just sad... To fall from so high must be the worst. I like how she met up with Nyn and Elayne finally. I hope she finds that thing to latch onto with dream walking. I do not see her dying anytime soon. I must say that Leanne and her flirting skills or whatever they are, is really really REALLY odd to me.

Forsaken-
They are very annoying as villains. They are the villain sidekicks for the real villain that hasn't come into the story fully yet. They just plot and make things hard for Rand. I don't know, maybe it's just me. Wonder who killed Asmodean??? Maybe Lan?

Moiraine-
Damn. Just damn. The note damn near made me cry a little on the inside... I figured she was going to die at some point after her conversation with Lan in book 2 or 3 about her transferring his bond to another but I didn't think she was going to go out like that. I don't think this is the last time we are going to see her. I like how Jordan left an opening for her return. Same with Lanfear. I wonder what Lan is going to do. Maybe Moiraine bonded him to Nyn without him knowing? Would be a nice twist.

Off topic: I'm debating on reading the new Nightshades book, Outbreak before moving onto the next WoT. Really liked the first two books. They're pretty short and a lot of action. If you like vampire/crime books (well more crime but has vampires in it), they might be up your alley.

I've read several of the books before, but I had not read The Dragon Reborn and I'm not sure about The Shadow Rising. This is a major problem with checking books out of the library, you have no record of what you've read before and it's difficult to find the newer books on the shelves, so I've likely read at least 1-2 later books.

Anyway the last one was good but a bit difficult figuring out who was where

(view spoiler)[it's good to be back in Perrin's head and I think that boy has come a long way from book 1. standing upto Moiraine, that was funny and suicidal. Good that Moiraine didn't get angry with Perrin, but she definitely came back at him by making him do most of the chores. poor chap, couldn't reject or rebel.

this book should be named after Dreams since Dragon Reborn is missing from most of the story so far but dreams or I just say nightmares are scary and so real . future, present, and past everything looks so bleak.

it's the first time that Jordan separated the three. in previous books, mostly at least two are together most of the time. I think it's a good move as they'll get the time and space for character development.

Sadly, I didn't like Egwene's test. why she had Rand in everyone of her test? :/ Only the third one was chilling. Will she be Amyrlin Seat in future? and she along with Elyane and Nynaeve are spies for Amyrlin seat!! that shocked me. I don't how would they survive this test!

Mat is on his way to deliver the letter and he is winning almost every game he is playing. is he still under the effect of dagger? Also how could he defeat Galad and Gawyn? he was not trained in Sword.. (hide spoiler)]
