Hello all I'm late to the game but I *really* want to be a part of the WoT buddy read. I've read the series twice although I've never read my copy of New Spring. I finished the Eye of the World last week and love it more than ever. I started the Great Hunt last night. I usually switch between the print and audiobook versions.

I'm seriously so excited to be doing this. If you want to read my way too long reason for why I love WoT and think it was better than psychotherapy, here's my review/blog entry. Starting book 3 (I can't stop lol, not that I want to)

Tomorrow I'm gonna start "The Autumn Republic" last book of Powder Mage trilogy, so lets see how much I can squeeze WoT between :)

I love all of the excitement. I've re-read the first 7 books many times, including a re-read attempt that was cut short last year. So when people start getting into book 7 or 8, I will be jumping back in. I've only read the last book once, so it will be nice to refresh my memory once we get to that point.

Now I just have to try really hard not to go crazy and start from Eye of the World again. My poor paperback probably couldn't take it any more, and I'm on my third copy.

So I am in Chapter 29 of Great Hunt and this is what I think of the book so far (view spoiler)[

this is quite similar to first book in many ways. our gang is another journey. again they're not together. everyone is still hating Aes Sedai (except Egwene).

but it is also different in how our three heroes are acting in this book. 1) Rand has power now. though not too happy about it but at least he is not lost like in the first book. he has an aim... (oh, he still get distracted by girls and still keep thinking about Egwene).
why is he so stubborn in accepting his power and learn how to channel the source?

2) What a little schemer Moiraine is!! She has a great plan to save Rand but i think she planned too much and now has lost him, again.

3) Nynaeve and Lan romance gives me headache. first of all it was thrown on us without any preamble. I mean Jordan just threw them on us. one chapter they had their first meeting and after two, we see Nynaeve crying... and it is still going on. :/ Is Nynaeve is the one Moiraine has tied with Lan after her death?

4) I absolutely loved the chapter Testing. one of the best trials i have read. A perfect blend of past, future, and present. those were tough as she has to made her mind at the last minute.. most surprising was the future. will it be a reality in coming books? (don't answer, just ignore if it is!)

5) Chapter 29 went above my head. this book has so many characters and so many things are happening simultaneously, it's hard to keep track of everyone and everything. :/ (hide spoiler)]

1) Because he is wool-headed lol. It's been mentioned in the books for some time, saidin has the dark one's taint and channeling it brings user closer to madness. He doesn't want to go mad, he fears it.

2 ) I still love her, if Rand was discovered any other Aes Sedai then her he would be gentled. Moiraine might be using Rand but for good causes I think.

3 ) Totally Agree, nuff said lol.

Made it through Chapter 5 of the Great Hunt yesterday and I had forgotten that the first 1500 Aes Sedai are introduced at the beginning of this book. If its a slow day at work I should make a color-coded flow chart to keep them all straight.

Also stoked that one of my favorite Aes Sedai is on the scene...Siuan Sanche!

This was a re-read for me, the first being back in 2002, so I had forgotten most of it. I was surprised to find I enjoyed it just as much as I remember the first run through. This time I think I noticed a lot more miscellaneous details. In particular the numerous parallels to characters and events in Lord of the Rings. From what I have read, this was Jordan's intention. He took some familiar things and then added a rich background of culture, religion and mysticism.

Last time I never continued the series so I'm going to make a determined effort to finish them in the next year or two :)

I will say Rand almost feels like an entirely different character at this point because we haven't really seen his thought processes after his big reveal to the world and how the whole war with his use of the one power is going inside himself. 1. I'm irritated at the horn of valere being stolen again and again.. What's Rand thinking leaving the horn unprotected with just Hurin..! It's like it was purposeful...!

2. The Ways are back, and is the black wind targeting/waiting for Rand? I don't know..!

3. I'm liking the way Rand has grown up since the first book.. He is using the power though hesitantly, and in decision making, he is better than in first book..!

4. Good that Mat Perrin and Rand are clear on their terms and they are treating Rand without any difference.. I wonder when Perrin will speak about his abilities to Mat and Rand..!

5. Nynaeve and her temper is growing worse.! Did Moiraine plan to bind Lan to Nynaeve?

6. I'm intrigued about this selene who made an appearance in the other world.. I don't trust her at all,and I won't be surprised if she is a darkfriend.! The way she tried to lure Rand to claim glory using the Horn of Valere was creepy.-_-

7. The Great Game was little difficult for me to understand and too complicated for me.. So far my understanding is that it's a political game.. Don't want to know more than that..

8. Didn't much understand about the Seanchans. Thought it was a character name at beginning, then realised it's a country/region name..! Couldn't connect with Captain Domon and his crew either..!

1. I agree. I got annoyed through that part too. You just knew something was going to happen.

5. This is where Nynaeve started to bug me a little bit. I like how her anger defines her as a character but it is a little too much sometimes. I think Moiraine has a secret plan for herself and Lan. Something that ends with her dead (hence the Lan situation).

6. I really like Selene's character! She pops up later on ;)

7. I thought the game was a cool way to add depth to the city. Some of it got annoying when Rand was trying to figure things out but I thought it was cool in the end.

8. Lol! I thought the same thing about the Seanchans. You will learn more later on in the book and it becomes a lot more clear. Same with the tie between Captain Domon. (hide spoiler)]

The number of characters isn't a huge issue for me for some reason. Don't get me wrong, I think there are A LOT of characters but the vast majority of them only show up for a chapter or page then are gone. They might pop up once or twice later but I think Jordan does a pretty good job of refreshing your memory of who they are. But that's just me of course.

I really enjoyed Perrin's POV too. I like how Jordan is drawing out his "change" and his inner battle within himself.

Rand was a huge miss for me in this book. I thought he didn't get enough face time. But when he was there it was nice to see his transformation into the Dragon and using the power.

End of Ch. 10

This was such a badass chapter! (view spoiler)[ The beginning of it was a little slow and then BAM! Lanfear shows up and everything gets crazy.

Lanfear is such an awesome villain. She has this aura around her that puts off this "I'm the baddest around" but she hides it behind this "most beautiful woman I have ever seen" look. From the first time Rand met her in the other world, I knew she was going to be bad news. The interaction between her and Rand in this chapter was really cool and gave a little history which is nice. I think this part is the start of Rand coming to terms with him being Lews Therin reborn. Hopefully, now that he knows Serene is Lanfear, maybe Mat and Perrin will discover it too.

Oh, Rand's fire that killed all the Trollocs was pretty sick too. (hide spoiler)]

That's the same reason I am finding it difficult to remember or link the characters.. some characters are there only in one chapter and then they return after 20 chapters or so... Sometime I forget they even existed before :-O This happens when I'm reading other books in parallel with Wheel of time series...!

Intrigued about Selene's character now.!! Hope She will be back at the last few chapters..!

2) Everyone wants a piece of Rand, looks like. he is the latest craze. Aes Sedai wants him, Dark Lord wants him, trollocs wants him. what's so wrong if Black Wind too wants him.? :P

3) totally in agreement with you there. he learning his lessons slowly. I wonder how many years it will take him to get mad after using the Source..

4) half of the plots starts because friends keep secret from each other.. had Matt told about the knife earlier we would have less of trouble on our hands right now... I don't Perrin will share his secret with Matt so soon..

5) Nynaeve is one of my favorite so far. her anger defines her. she can be stubborn at times but 9 out of 10 times her stubbornness has resulted in good things. As for Lan & Nynaeve, that task in her test was perhaps the true future for these two and I desperately want it to be true..

6) I don't trust Selene at all. she pops out of nowhere and always has an air of suspicion around her...

7) Same thoughts as ini.

I too find it hard to keep track of these many characters and with every chapter few more are added. It doesn't help that I am reading other books with this.. Have decided to read Dragon Reborn with touching any other book..

I'll probably finish book 3 today but gonna take a break with 1 or 2 other books then start 4th book, don't want to rush in so fast, also sad to say but books do slow down a bit at the middle - that was one of the reasons I didn't finish it at my first round - so reading other books hopefully will help me this time :)

Also wanted to say that I'm so glad Mat's getting (view spoiler)[likable (hide spoiler)]from the 3rd book and so on, he is really my favorite with Rand close 2nd!

1. That part really annoyed me too, but like Manju said, he is still at the beginning and growing still. Although I don't think it would made much difference if he left Loial too.. They were only 3 ppl against so many, it was bound to happen..

2. Hahaha @Manju, not as much as Galad tho :P

3. Yeah he is getting there, slowly but its fun to read.. He is getting somewhat mad too, its hard to learn everything by himself..

4. I agree Manju, you kinda have to accept that these lil shits won't talk to each other about their feelings and problems and dreams and powers and etc etc etc. Its so annoying! but they all are wool-headed fools that keep everything to themselves because they fear being judged perhaps..

5. I hated her when I first read, but now I accepted that she is driven only by anger so her's pov is kind of interesting, she needs a monk to educate her tho, a little meditation might help!

6. Right! She was so creepy when they first met, and she'll keep appear for some time..

7. I didn't like this when I read first, not liking now either.. I mean we have so much to think about so much plot going on already and really we don't need silly politics that no one understands how to play.. lol

Yes, In all those worlds, the dark one wins in the end..But then In all those worlds, Rand led a normal life.. Not the one with the channeling capability.

my thoughts on the last 10 chapters.

1. Ingtar: I wondered why he was in so much disagreement with Rand and Verin when they discussed about going to Falme, I thought the reason could be his deditation towards retrieving the horn, But noway I could have suspected him being a darkfriend.. I had to really reread those few lines to confirm whether U read correctly..🙊🙊 He redeemed himself towards the end, and I am glad Rand didn't tell anybody that..!

2. Damane's were scary, The seanchans looked so cruel to me , Egwene's reaction ehen she was free was deserved I guess..! And Nynaeve was smart in her patience and plans..

3. still didn't understand the role of the Whitecloaks in this book.. But since Byar has left thinking Perrin is a darkfriend, curious to see what will happen in the next books..!!

4. Min was the least/ almost impossible person I would have thought Rand would end up with..!!! that was a total surprise..

5. Lanfear has to be Selene? I don't understand what forsaken is ? Not a darkfriend I hope.!

6. Glad that perrin and Loial are still there with Rand.. Was surprised the way everyone in the shienaran soldiers changed loyalties to Rand.

7. The battle and the name of the forms were interesting.. will reread those parts again to understand the forms..

1. I agree. I liked how Rand handled it and let Ingtar still keep his honor. I got the feeling he was bad because of his obsession with the horn. Whenever it was brought up, it was always "I have to find the horn" not "we have to find it".

2. The Damane's was a really crazy twist in the story. It really brought out Egwene's character and started to mold her into that badass One Power wielder.

3. I really don't understand the Whitecloaks intentions yet either... They aren't with the Aes Sedai or the Dark One. Maybe they are a neutral that is just looking out for the world and oppose the magics. They put off that crazy religious vibe that you see in every epic though.

4. I would still really like him to end up with Egwene lol starting to get the vibe that it isn't looking too good for "Egwand".

5. Keep on reading ;) - The forsaken are the 13 Aes Sedai (Black Ajah- male and female) that were imprisoned with the Dark One in Shayol Ghul before the Breaking. Lanfear is supposed to be the badest of bad.

6. It was said that after the Dragon is reborn all ties and bonds are broken and all people are to follow him. (hide spoiler)]

1. I forgot about he was a darkfriend from my first read but it felt so weird his talking about the horn and all, I thought it was something like Mat's obsession about his dagger with the horn, it kind of surprised me again..

2. I hated reading that part and feeling sorry for Egwene, it was so cruel! And yeah I get that she's kind of paranoid after that, that she doesn't want to get captured ever again..

3. Ahhh wish I could tell spoilers! lol, Most of them are just a hate element that Jordan created for us I think, an annoyance for our heroes!

4. I was surprised at my first time too.. But still there is one more for our Rand.. I still don't get why Jordan decided a harem idea..

5. What Mason said also Lanfear is up there with Ishamael, those two are the big badies.

6. I would be really sad if Loial or Perrin treated him otherwise, and Sheinarans (I might pronounced it wrong) are not that afraid from people that can channel and probably believe the Dragon prophecies and that he is the prince that was promised (got ref :P)

7. It's different, I don't think I've read another book that describes sword fights in this mannor. It's interesting and creative don't get me wrong but if feels not sufficient too :/
