Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Congrats on meeting your targets, Kate! I agree that finding the 'balance' is hard. I just kind of go with what I'm feeling - some readathons I'm more into the social media than others.

message 252: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I'm back and setting things up in here ready for August.
I won't be doing the pre-readathon prompts but instead will concentrate on finishing the board game from last time! (message 222) a sci-fi/fantasy and then 200 + 500 pages to finish.

hi Kate. Just stopping by ti say hello. . . .
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse looks like good reading for a readthon. So I added it my tbr. . . . See you here soon.

message 254: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Plans are coming together for August Reverse Readathon.
My TBR is something like this:

Down Under By Bill Bryson (in progress)
The Hired Man By Aminatta Forna (in progress)
The Eye of Ra By Michael Asher (re-read)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows By JK Rowling (re-read)
The Hermit of Eyton Forest By Ellis Peters

I might change one or two of these depending on how I get on.

Food, drink and snacks
Not really planning a menu as meticulously as I do for the regular readathon but I have an assortment of snacks:

Cucumber, carrot sticks & cheese straws with sour cream and chive dip. (I really enjoyed this during the April readathon so it had to come back for the summer!)
Grapes, banana
Marshmallows

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Sounds good Kate! I’d better start planning myself lol
Happy readathoning!

message 256: by Susan (new)

Susan | 986 comments Nice stack. You’ve got an appealing mix. I always enjoy an Ellis Peters’ mystery with Monk Cadfael

message 257: by Susan (new)

Susan | 678 comments Kate, I really enjoyed “The Hired Man” and I hope you do too!

message 258: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Thanks Susan I like to have a variety to chose from. Cadfael is always a good option, they are easy quick reads.

Susan, I'm a little way into The Hired Man now and I'm enjoying it so far. It feels like a good one for a readathon.

Kate | 646 comments Good morning all!
Its just gone 8am here. I'm up, showered, dressed and have a coffee and a book to hand. Ready to get this show on the road!
Looking forward to a full day of reading.

I'm continuing The Hired Man to start with.

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Good morning Kate!
Happy readathoning!

message 263: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Thank you Susy.

Its been a good day so far.
I've made progress with Down Under by Bill Bryson and The Hired Man by Aminatta Forna and also started The Island of Adventure by Enid Blyton The Enid Blyton wasn't on my TBR but I needed a change of genre and an easier read.

message 264: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I'm calling it a day. Its gone 11pm here and I'm too tired to read now.
On a rough tally I think I've met my time and page targets comfortably but I haven't done so well with Bingo!
I'll do a proper summary tomorrow.

I didn't participate in the Bingo this time. I had already set my TBR and saw I wouldn't be able to cross out quite a lot of squares, so…
Looking forward to seeing your stats. I'll be doing mine shortly as well!

Kate | 646 comments Final Stats for August 2021

Total Time Read: 9 hours 24 mins
Total Pages Read: 403
Books Finished: 1
Coffees: 4
Bingo squares: 13
Bingo lines: 0

Well I met my time target of over 8 hours and my page target of over 400 (just!)
Rubbish with the bingo but the board was a bit late for me to revise my TBR.

Its been fun as always.
See you all in October!

message 268: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Great stats, Kate!

Same .

message 271: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I'm starting to consider my TBR for October. I think I'll go for a spooky vibe this time and that will help with a couple of reading challenges I intend to tackle during the month too.

I have seen the bingo boards and will probably dip into all of them and just see what I end up with. If I get a bingo line on each I'll be happy but I'm not going all out.

same on the bingo for me! I could never blackout all of them!

message 273: by Kate (last edited Oct 17, 2021 09:11AM) (new)

Kate | 646 comments well my TBR is going to be driven by other themed readathons I'm doing in October so it looks like this:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (re-read)
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
The Midnight Library
Crossing Paths

I will probably be some way through HP before we start.

message 274: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Same here, Kate! I’m doing 9 readathons this month. I’ll just have to wait and see which books will be up next in one week’s time.

message 275: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Wow 9! That's ambitious! Which ones are they?

message 276: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments The Haunted Mansion (Bookish Reality)
Whodunitathon
Pageathon
Spooktober Readathon
Gothtober Readathon
Hocus Pocus Readathon
Scary Readathon (Monster University)
Spoopathon
TrickTreadathon

Dewey’s makes 10 but there are no prompts so that’s easy.

Apart from the monthly readathons:
Weekathin
24B4Monday readathon
Shadow Lounge Readathon
AYearAThon
Devour Your TBR

So that makes 15 in total lol

Suzy that is quite a list! I'm making my way through the Spoopathon haunted house and I'm working on my character for Magical Readathon this month. I also have a couple of monthly challenges with another Goodreads group.

Cucumber & carrot sticks with sour cream dip (my readathon regular)
Tiny cheese twists
Chocolate cornflake bites
Chocolate hobnobs
Caramel Salted Popcorn

Hot chocolate with cream & mini marshmallows
Diet coke

Lots of coffee!

I've also got grapefruit for breakfast and the ingredients for a chicken & veg slow cooker meal.

message 293: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments The slow cooker is on, the snacks are prepared. I now have a couple of hours to sort housework and tidy my reading space.
I feel like I need this readathon.

Note to self: Must remember that every minute counts. I must read at every opportunity because I'll be cross if I end up with 9 hours 55 mins! lol

message 294: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments All well prepared, nice! I haven't prepared my snacks, will do that while listening to my audiobook I guess. Vacuum cleaned the house and that will have to be enough for this weekend lol

Yes, every minute counts but having fun and relaxing is also important! I always struggle between reading enough (I feel like I never do) and spend time with fellow readers on social media (I feel like I don't have enough time for that).

Happy readathon, Kate!

Nice! I got distracted by a bunch of police cars, ambulances and firetrucks + my book has very tiny letters so I'm going SLOW.
Haven't started on my healthy snacks yet, the other snacks on the other hand…. lol

message 299: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Not surprised Susy, I'd be distracted by that lot too! Hope everything is ok in your neighbourhood!

2nd update hours 3-5
Continuing with Harry Potter and in the last 3 hours I've read for 1 hour 57 mins and completed a further 71 pages.

May have to switch books soon.
