Read-a-Thon #2 - Blue Team Battleship Strategy Topic

I have shamelessly borrowed Laura’s grid and tracker so I can update this to keep track of our progress, including how many guesses our team earns and when we’ve used them.
I can earn guesses for our team by completing tasks but you guys will have to use the guesses as the mods have a map of the ships so I’m not allowed to guess!

Read during readathon:

Great with a new team challenge... I'm working the first three days next week but then I'm off for Easter and I have no plans those days, so I hope to read a lot of books!

I have two books I'm currently reading and four more library books already out that I'm hoping to get to during the read-a-thon. I'll have to look later at which prompts the others fit but You fits the following prompts:
One word title
Thriller
Female author
Published outside Major 5
Red on cover (not sure if it has to be entirely red or if this fits

I currently have 2 books started and am less than 30% with both of them . I can’t link here on the app but they are Peony in Love by Lisa See and The Lost Memory of Skin by Russell Banks. I’ll have to check back in when I get out of work, but I’m hoping to finish up those two this weekend for the challenge.
Peony in Love
Lost Memory of Skin

I am currently reading Liv andre har levd (audio), and have approx 50 % left. So this can fit the "finish a book started before the Read-a-Thon" as well as others.
I am planning to read The Complete Persepolis, which can fit the graphic novel in addition to others. I have read 1 page so far, so will wait to start it until tomorrow.
I will check which other categories these can fill when I get back home from work.

I've also just started Huset ved Riverton and both books are for the ATY challenge.
I went to the library today and brought home 5 books so I should be all the set!

The only tasks we need to sort of plan are the ones that require we work together such as read the rainbow, listen to 20 hours audio and a few others like that.
As I understand it each book we read can count for one task unless it's one of the tasks marked ⚡And we don't need to complete every task, though it would be fun if we did 😊.

Other than the tasks marked ⚡ we can repeat tasks so as Rachelnyc says, we don’t need to worry if two people want to read a book that matches the same category.
We will need to coordinate for the ⚡tasks though because they can’t be repeated and for some there is a limit to how much each team member can contribute, eg if we want to earn a guess for reading ten books then we need at least five people working on the task as each person can only contribute two books to the total.

I love that it's more complicated and there are more ways to get involved and work together as a team. You mods are awesome and I am really impressed with the detail of this read-a-thon!

I'm up for an extra challenge :-)

I love that it's more complicated and there are more ways to get invol..."
I love it too!

Marina, challenge accepted! Read-a-thons always encourage my competitive side!

Same here! I was sure it started next week, and I think that's actually the week I voted for. In hindsight, this week actually works better for me since I have absolutely no plans for this weekend, and I have next Friday off!

Confession time: I started The House of Seven Gables before the last readathon. I decided it was going to be a slow read, so I moved on to get more books finished. I STILL haven't finished it, and I only finished one book since the last read-a-thon. So hopefully I can finish the darn thing tomorrow and count it for started before the read-a-thon. I am using it as my gothic novel for ATY.
I have several short stories lined up, so I should be able to do that too.

Oh Rachel true.... I have next friday off too and the girlies won't be here.... thats a whole extra day to read :-)
Also was planning on working on my middle grade and picture books challenges , so I can cover those tasks easy. I have a stack in my room.
One started for before the read a thon ( Lost Memory of Skin)
and Peony in Love could work as a second female author buddying up with Rachelnyc if thats where You ends up......or could be a spring cover.

It’s just past 9am here, and I’m about to get started with the read-a-thon. Happy weekend & happy reading everyone!!

Happy reading everyone 😊

Happy reading 😊

Other than the tasks marked ⚡ we can repeat..."
Hi Bryony,
So I have a question for the prompts that can be repetitive. For example, for the author task we need to read two books to get a prompt completed. But for most of the others, it only has to be one (genre prompt for instance). Will you get two quesses for the author task per prompt or just one? Otherwise it would be wiser to chose the prompt where we only have to read one book. Hope that wasn't to unclear.

Other than the tasks marked ..."
Hilde, check message #13 in this thread, Bryony explained it pretty well up there :-)

What I loved most about it was that it wasn't the Killer that had me saying " OMFG"!!!!!!!!

I will recommend another nonfiction. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, about a young man who wanderfps around for a few years and ends up dying in Alaska. (Not a spoiler, he tells us he dies at the very beginning.)

Other than the..."
Thank you Tracy, but I am still left wondering. Should the author tasks perhaps have lighting signs since they require multiple books?

But I finished My not so perfect life and it can count towards A book for the ATY challenge and A book started before the read-a-thon.
I've also read for two hours straight today. And we could use it as a romance book.
Maybe I'll check in later tonight 😊

Thank you, Bryoni. I got the intention, but it wouldn't be very clever for us as a team to chose those, as we would earn more guesses by choosing the one book prompts. Unless we wanted to go for all, like you said ;)
I took up the question in the general thread as well, and Laura just got back to me saying that she had changed the rules, and that the author prompts now have a lightning sign:)

But I finished My not so perfect life and it can count towards A book for the ATY challenge and A book star..."
Yay, first book finished, well done! :)

Bryony, so can any tasks without lightning be overlapped ( one book used for multiple tasks earning multiple guesses?)
For example: I am reading Peony in Love which could fit for
historical fiction or romance
more than ten years old
a spring cover
and/or female author
once finished does it then count for all the tasks finished, and if I read another book by a female author would I then have also completed that task?
Also, for some of the tasks with limitations
again read 2 books by a female author... 1 per member....does that mean I could read 2 books by a female author ( or 2 graphic novels) to win a guess but then not complete that task again? Or does it mean that 2 members each have to read 1 book by a female author to complete the task?
Then some look like team tasks, finish 15 books, 5 members each have to read 3 books for this one?
and
read 20 hours of audio.... 4 people would each have to read 5 hours on audio for this task
Sorry....you poor thing, thats a lot of questions. I hope they make sense.

Bryony, so can any tasks without lightning be overlapped ( one book used for multiple tasks earning multiple guesses?)
For example: I a..."
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's opposite, i.e the lightning one are the ones that can be overlapped but not repeated, whilst the others can be repeated, but not overlapped.

Bryony....dont even attempt to answer those silly questions lmao

I read for two hours straight and participated in the kickoff, bookish A-Z and getting to know you threads.

Currently working on audio book by a Chinese man. Does that count as POC?

I'm a third of the way through A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. It's horrifying, to say the least. I would have gotten through it, but I was distracted by the first amazingly sunny & warm day in months, and took the opportunity to clean off the balcony and do some Spring cleaning. My back aches.
It could count for quite a few of the topics, but the child main character is probably the best one to pencil it in for.

Finish a book for the ATY challenge
Book started before the marathon
Book by female author
For other tasks, it could be used for:
One word title
Mystery/Thriller
Book in a series
Book set in the country I reside in
Is anyone good with creating spreadsheets? It's not my strong suit but if someone could put one together, that would probably help keep us organized since there is a lot to track!
Next up for me is A Man Called Ove

Participated in games
Made a recommendation (into the Wild, Jon Krakauer)
The House of Seven Gables-
Read for 2 hours straight
Started before readathon
For ATY challenge
Could also be published more than ten years ago, article in title
Never Bet the Devil Your Head, Edgar Allan Poe
Short story
Read in one sitting
Poems by Edgar Allan Poe, including the Raven and Annabel Lee
Couple hours early left on my audiobook
Page total: 103

I participated in all three games up so far.
I hope to finish The Fact of a Body: A Murder and a Memoir tonight but it may not happen until tomorrow morning. It is a book for the ATY challenge and will fill the book with a long title prompt.

No completed books yet, but I did the Kick-off post, Getting To Know You, Bookish A-Z, and I made a recommendation in the Recommend a Good One! thread. I'm not sure exactly how many or which of these are counted as games.
Books mentioned in this topic
