message 104: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Hi team! It’s late here so I’m just going to update guesses and I’ll pop back tomorrow to update the team tasks (pages read etc) and the games tracker.

Kathy Jo - C6 is a hit!

Hilde - that’s one guess for reading a poem (there’s a limit for the team overall but no individual limit)

Erica - C9 is a hit too, that’s our first battleship sunk! (C6-C9)

Also, that’s fine for the novellas task. And you earn one more guess for reading a poem.

Rachelnyc - you have one more guess for A Man Called Ove

Marina - you have two guesses: one for Foul Play, one for Ukuelig

Tracy - you have three guesses, one for reading a picture book, one for We Should All Be Feminists, one for reading a poem

Kathy Jo - you have one guess for The Heavenly Man

Rachel - those squares were guessed in earlier posts so you can use your guesses on another two.

Team guesses - we have
One guess for reading three novellas or short stories
One for completing three books started before the readathon
One for two books by women
One for two books by PoC

A non fiction book

I also added another 313 pages making my total so far 637.
And I listened to an audiobook for 1 1/2 hours.

message 108: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3282 comments Ok, completely missed that since I only skimmed through the thread. I'll change my guesses to C5 and C10 then.

I read 116 pages of Looking for Alaska, bringing my total so far up to 528 pages. I also did the Candy Book Tag.

message 109: by Marina (new)

Marina | 1312 comments Hannah wrote: "I've now reached 611 pages during the read-a-thon, but I'm still on my first book. Should've picked a shorter one, haha. For anybody who hasn't read it yet - East of Eden is absolutely ..."

East of Eden is one of those books I have on my TBR put I always put off reading because it scares me a little. I feel that way with a lot of the big classics. But maybe it's time to give it a shot!

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping Erica or Tracy have hit something before I make my guesses :-)

message 110: by Erica (last edited Mar 27, 2018 03:15AM) (new)

Erica | 555 comments I finished An American Marriage (started during the readathon). It could count towards:

- female author
- POC author

And on its own could count as
- published in 2018 or
- an article in the title

My page count is now 678

message 111: by Bryony (new)

message 115: by Marina (last edited Mar 27, 2018 07:54AM) (new)

Marina | 1312 comments I'll use one of my guesses for I 12.

I've just read this short story: Beyond the Door.
I finished it in one sitting. Can it count for anything?

I also did the Candy book tag earlier today.

message 116: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments I decided to finish the poem book Einstein's Cat since it was so short, it will count for 'finished in one sitting'.

I also read for two straight hours on the airport/flight today (started Hallowe'en Party).

I will check in later tonight with my page count.

message 117: by Marina (new)

Marina | 1312 comments And I was wondering, how many books have we finished in total?

message 118: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Hannah wrote: "Marina, it's the same with me: I got a copy 2 years ago from a friend, who absolutely adored it, but couldn't quite bring myself to pick it up until now. But I'm sure glad I did. It's really well w..."

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, I also want to read it at some point:)

message 119: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments I12 is a hit Marina. We’ve sunk our second battleship as that one was only two squares. You also earn another guess for a story finished in one sitting.

Hilde, you earn two guesses, one for reading two hours straight, one for a book finished in one sitting.

message 120: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Marina H wrote: "And I was wondering, how many books have we finished in total?"

We’ve finished 12 books started during the readathon, which actually earns us another team guess. That’s seven team guesses now, just let me know when you want to use them. :-)

message 121: by Marina (new)

Marina | 1312 comments Should we use one of the team guesses for G5?

message 122: by Hilde (new)

G8 is a miss though, sorry!

message 130: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Hi team!

I haven't been doing a huge amount of reading since I finished my first book. ☹️ But I did a bit of audio today, so I'm still helping!

I'm now sitting at 263 pages, and 3.5 hours of audio. How do you want us to update our progress, Bryony? Like this, or just wait until the end?

message 131: by Tracy (last edited Mar 27, 2018 01:18PM) (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Finished the Candy Book Tag game :-)
( message #17)

message 132: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments I will guess B1.

message 133: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments H3 is a hit Hannah. You also get one more guess for finishing East of Eden.

Kathy Jo - B1 is a miss, sorry!

We have two more team guesses available as we have read over 4,000 pages and listened to 20 hours of audiobook.

message 134: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Jody, for posting pages read and hours listened to, I think it’s good if everyone can update whenever they post to say they’ve finished a book etc.

We’ve now completed the pages read & hours listened to tasks but we can complete them again, however only people who haven’t reached the 600 pages and 5 hours limits can contribute.

message 135: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments I will guess G3.
Maybe we can use group guesses to sink this ship?

message 136: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Have we all recommended a book? I know I saw few, that could earn us an easy guess.....

message 137: by Rachelnyc (last edited Mar 27, 2018 06:24PM) (new)

Rachelnyc | 943 comments Wow, great day blue team!

I hit 600 pages today and I should finish Bonfire tonight.

I'll hold off on using my next guess until I see if G3 is a hit.

message 138: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments I finished listening to A Life Intercepted today, which is a book I started listening to before the read-a-thin but was less than 75% done. It would fit as a book with an article int the title.
This adds another 1 1/2 hours to my listening to an audiobook.
I also played the Candy Shop game.

For my guess for yesterday, I guess E11.

message 139: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments Finished The Family Under the Bridge
-female author
- middle grade
- for ATY challenge (not sure if we finished that one?)

Updated page count: 297

Starting When Breath Becomes Air

message 140: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3282 comments Not an especially productive day, unfortunately. I was making a Top 10 Tuesday post on my blog this evening, which ate up way more time than I expected.

I did manage to finish Looking for Alaska, which was for an ATY prompt (book from the first 10 on your TBR).

I read 105 pages of that, plus at the library today, I read Purple, Green and Yellow to one of the participants I work with. I'm not counting it toward any of my reading challenges, but it's an extra 32 pages read. That brings my total pages overall up to 665.

Purple, Green and Yellow can count toward the rainbow potentially because of all the colours in the title, or as a book with a child main character. Or just as a picture book.

I also mentioned the other day (yesterday, I think?) that I read Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, but I'm not sure if that ended up getting counted toward anything. That one also could be a picture book, child main character, colour in the title, etc.

message 141: by Marina (last edited Mar 28, 2018 01:08AM) (new)

Marina | 1312 comments I finished Back to the Bedroom this morning. It could count as:
A romance
Published more than 10 years ago

It was also my 3rd book started and finished during the read-a-thon.

Last night I read Fyrtøjet in one sitting and it's a picture book.

message 142: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Hello! I'm glad to see everyone's doing an amazing job - go team!

I've been listening to my audio a bit again this morning, and will have some reading time this afternoon while the Spider is at art class. I feel like I'm really slacking off though. ☹️

I've participated in all of the games so far, including the Candy one.

message 143: by Rachelnyc (last edited Mar 28, 2018 06:57AM) (new)

Rachelnyc | 943 comments Progress update:

I finished Bonfire which is my 3rd book finished.

Bonfire also has a female author and works for one word title or mystery/thriller.

I've participated in all the games up to today's Scrabble.

It seems we have a bunch of team guesses remaining so once we see whether the most recent guesses are, we should start using them!

message 144: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Update on the last two guesses:

G3 is a hit. E11 is a miss.

I’ll update with new guesses earned as soon as I can.

message 145: by Bryony (last edited Mar 28, 2018 07:45AM) (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments And here are the new guesses...

Kathy Jo - one guess for The Family Under the Bridge

Rachel - three guesses (Looking for Alaska, Purple Green Yellow, Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse)

Marina H - four guesses (Back to the Bedroom, Fyrtøjet, book in one sitting, three books total)

Rachelnyc - one guess (for Bonfire)

We also have another team guess for two books by a female author.

Good work team! We’re only half way through the week and we’ve earned lots of guesses and sunk three ships already.

message 146: by Rachelnyc (new)

Rachelnyc | 943 comments Thanks Bryony!

I'll use my last guess on F3.

message 147: by Marina (last edited Mar 28, 2018 08:05AM) (new)

Marina | 1312 comments I'll try F7 😊

And I did the scrabble and half-way check in

message 148: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments I'll use one of my guesses for E3 😊

message 149: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments F3 - hit!
F7 - miss :-(
E3 - hit!

message 150: by Rachelnyc (new)

Rachelnyc | 943 comments Nice. I recommend we use one of the team guesses for D3 to try to sink the 5 block battleship.
