Janine, I would like to recommend A Discovery of Witches to you, as you seem to read a lot of fantasy books :)

SarahKat | 6225 comments Vanessa, because you have Psychology as an interest, I recommend The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons: The History of the Human Brain as Revealed by True Stories of Trauma, Madness, and Recovery. The audio is great if you listen to audio books.

I noticed that you gave the Quran one star, and I understand that. The first time I read it, I was not a fan.
I'm going to encourage you to read What Everyone Needs to Know about Islam. It is written from a non-Muslim's point of view.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 824 comments Blagica, In case you wish another recommendation here three books from you TBR I read a loved: Sold to the Sheikh one of the two very beast BDMS books I ever read, Bluegrass State of Mind one of my very favorite series ever - it's light, fun, sexy and a little suspense on the side (plus the best fictional small town ever - I would love to more there *sigh*) & Don't Tell one of my favorite romantic suspense series and debut novel by this author - the weekest in series but still great (really evil perps) - so depending on your mood there should be something for you :-)

l a i n e y - for you I recommend: A Change of Fortune loved it so much and it's pretty fun :-)

Since you love the works of Diana Wynne Jones and J.R.R. Tolkien, I recommend The Neverending Story by Michael Ende and The Princess Bride by William Goldman.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 824 comments Irfken, I recommend for you:
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie in my oppinion her best book - I've seen you have several of her books on your shelves
Persuasion by Jane Austen my favorite of her books - I've noticed you enjoyed Pride and Prejudice and thought it could be something for you - especially if you're looking for something shorter :-)

Feel free to disregard my recommendations, since Ilona was a little faster than me :-)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 824 comments Ilona, looks like we posted at roughtly the same time :-)

I found several gems on your TBR shelf and hope you like at least one of them:
The Husband's Secret, The Old Man and the Sea & The Secret Garden

Ilona wrote: "Agnieszka, I think you would like A Man Called Ove."

Thank you for the recommendation! I'm still not sure I want to read it - I didn't like the author's My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry at all and so I'm a little cautious to try another one though it's the second time in this thread I got it recommended, so I'll see if my library has an audiobook I can listen to while I'm updating my many challenges :-)

message 84: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Peterson | 117 comments Catherine,

Since you liked Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, I recommend you read the rest of the series. Although it’s not spectacular writing, they’re very entertaining. Especially The Da Vinci Code and Inferno.

L A i N E Y (will be back) (ohlainey) | 351 comments Kimberly, I see you loved The Wrinkle of Time, I’d like to recommend you When You Reach Me - it’s a middle grade book with time travel element also. I read it and really liked it a lot more than I expected. Hope you enjoy it too~

message 86: by Rachelnyc (new)

Rachelnyc | 170 comments Lainey, I see that All the Light We Cannot See is a favorite of yours. I recommend The Nightingale which is another beautifully written novel set during WWII.

Dania, my favourite series (next to Harry Potter of course) is the Lunar Chronicles. I see you have it on your TBR but haven't started it yet. So for you I recommend Cinder by Marissa Meyer. Hope you'll love it as much as I did.

Kadijah Michelle, since you loved Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Matilda and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, I'd recommend The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander. It's one of those works of classic children's fantasy fiction that is universal and can be loved by anyone regardless of age.

Irfken,

Since you like "historical epics" and our tastes seem very similar (Agatha Christie! Gone With The Wind! Harry Potter! Yes!), I'll recommend The Winds of War and War and Remembrance by Herman Wouk. I loved these...some of my favorite historical fiction works.

message 95: by Irfken (last edited Mar 29, 2018 08:28AM) (new)

Thanks so much Kimberly. Those two have been on my to-read list for the longest time, I will definitely check them out.

I also saw the similarities in our tastes and would recommend Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian. Since you enjoy both children's literature that anyone of any age can enjoy and WWII novels, Goodnight Mister Tom is a great book. If you ever chance upon it and read it, remember to bring to tissues as it's a real tearjerker.

message 96: by Mindy (new)

Mindy Jones (mindyrecycles) Hi Irfken,

Since you like historical fiction and literary magic, I'm going to recommend Beloved by Toni Morrison. I had it on my list for a long time and finally got to it last year. For me, it was a masterpiece.

Mindy
