Bound by Magic

I roll my eyes as she links her arm with mine and pulls me through the (thankfully) sparse crowds. As we walk I can’t help noticing the amount of children here during the day. Geez. And this generation isn’t the baby boomers. “Aren’t there day cares around here?” I ask softly as I dodge two toddlers chasing each other around the kids area in the middle of the mall.

He rolls this eyes and he walks with me as we dodge kids that are running around. He asks aren't there daycares around here. "Sure but not everyone is willing to pay for them." I tell him and nudge him.
"What's a matter? Don't want a few ankle biters of your own." I tease with a smile.

“Someday, but having your own kids is different than having to bear with other people’s kids,” I reply and shove my hands in my pockets. “So What’s our first stop? I think there’s a Target up ahead on the right.”

He tells me sure but having your own and dealing with other peoples was different. He shoves his hands in his pockets and ask me were our first stop is.
"Yea, that works." I tell him with a nod. "I can pick up a few things there. Some t shirts and stuff." I pull him along with me to the target.

“Alright. I think while you do that I’ll pick up a couple things from the grocery side. How about we meet up by the self checkout?” I suggest.
(I kinda want to have his mom have a run in with Lani :3)

Lani
He suggest that I go do my thing and he'll go pick up some things from the grocery side. That we could meet up at the self checkout. I nod in agreement thinking it was a good idea.
"Sounds good to me. Just be careful and if you see anything weird then call me, okay." I tell him heading off the clothing section.

Agathe
From a distance, I watch the woman walk beside my son, holding his hand. A faint smile touches my lips as I watch their auras mingle, almost appearing as one. I breathe a sigh of relief. So he has found his mate. And away from his father. Good.
My heart thunders in my chest. I put a hand over my chest to sooth it. Then I watch as my son leaves for the grocery side of the store, leaving the young woman on her own to drift in the clothing section. At a distance I follow.
I didn’t intend to approach her, but I can’t help it. Even I have seen the news. The crime scenes. The gossip. I can’t help the worry I feel for either of them.
Stepping to her side next to a sales rack I take a deep breath. “Hello.”

Lani
Ezra agrees to call if anything happens and heads off to the grocery side of the store. I head over to the clothing section and look through for a couple of cheap t-shirts and some jeans to wear.
I jump a little as someone steps next to me and says hello. "Ah hello?" I say kind of confused on why this lady was talking to me. She was really pretty though and kind of seemed familiar but I couldn't nail down why.

She looks at me, thoroughly confused. “You don’t know me, but you know my son. My name is Agathe,” I introduce myself quietly. I tentatively hold out my hand, meeting her startled gaze.

She introduces herself quietly and holds out a hand to me. I look at her shocked. I mean what are the chances, Eriks had just been talking about seeing if I could find Ezra's mother.
"Oh, um I'm Lani Clare. I'm currently partnered up with you son on a case and well... I'm his matched." I say biting my lip a little as I take her hand to shake. "If you don't mind me asking but why are you here?"

I nod when she tells me she’s his match. Then she questions my presence. “I’ve been watching Ezra for the past couple years. It took me a while to find him once he was away from his father. But I’ve been updated with the news lately and I just can’t stand in the shadows anymore. I’m worried for both of you, Lani. I don’t know who behind all this, but I get a bad feeling that somethings going to happen,” i whisper to her, absentmindedly flipping through the racks.

She nods and tells me that she has been watching over Ezra for the past couple of years. She had been watching the news and she couldn't stay in the shadows anymore because she was worried for us both. She tells me that she has a bad feeling that something is going to happen.
I bite my lip and nod a little. "I have that feeling too. The killer is after me... I think they are preparing to strike again. This time it will be me." I whisper as I grab a few more things for myself. "I didn't want drag Ezra into this and I still don't. I'm looking for a way to break the match in case... in case I don't make it."

My eyes flare with magic and I squeeze her hand. “Don’t,” i say firmly. “Don’t break your bond with Ezra. You may think you’re saving him pain down the road when the reality remains: it will do you both more harm. I rather not think about him losing you, but in that case, without you or your bond to him, he would have no match. He wouldn’t have the necessary balance of magic of a matched pair. Without that, he would lose his sanity,” I explain thoroughly to her.
“Please, don’t. Prepare yourself for the worst should it come, but hope for the best.”

Her eyes flare and she squeezes my hand telling me don't. To not break my bond with him because even if I think I am saving him from pain down the road. It will just do more harm.
"I don't want to but I don't want him to die because of me. This is my fight and I don't want to drag him down with me if I lose it." I say softly. "I don't want to do it believe me but I want the option to be there if it comes down to that."
I knew it could possibly be devastating to break a bond between matched but I couldn't live with myself if I got him killed to. I wanted him to live. He deserved to.

“Have faith in him, Lani,” I whisper. “His magic is stronger than it may seem. He may not know how to use it but where you’re concerned it’s all instinct. And he’s going to stay with you to the very end; you know how stubborn he can be.” I smile faintly at her and touch her gently with a mother’s touch. “I couldn’t be happier knowing my son has found his match in you. But I encourage you to have faith in him and in your bond.”

She whispers to have faith in him and his magic is stronger then it seems. That when it comes to me it's all instinct and he would stay to the very end with me. She smiles and touches me softly.
"I know." I whisper softly. She quietly says she couldn't be happier knowing he found his match in me. "I'm glad you approve. I trust him. I just... this killer is smart. I've had years of training to fight a lot of different magic users. I just worry that the killer will try to use Ezra to get to me."

I smile fondly at her. “I know. But just know that he will always be there. I may not have known him all his life, but I know his heart. No one can turn him against you,” I reassure her. Just then a phone goes off, but not mine. I smile, guessing Ezra’s texting her asking where she is. Taking out a small piece of paper, I write my number on it and offer it to her. “Here. If you need me for anything, don’t hesitate to call. Hopefully I’ll be able to see you both when there’s more time.”

She smiles and tells me she knows but he would always be there and she may not have known him all his life but she knows her heart. My phone goes off and I see that Ezra is checking were I am since he was about to check out.
His mom takes out a piece of paper and gives me it after writing her number on it. "Thank you. I'd love it if we could all get together or at least get you and Ezra together for a bit." I tell her and give her a smile.
"He's a good guy and strong. I'm glad to have him as a match." I say squeezing her hand before I say goodbye and head to the self checkout to meet up with Ezra.

I smile seeing Lani pop up from the sea of clothes racks. “There you are! Did you find everything you needed?” I ask her happily as I scan my items and load them in a reusable shopping bag.

He smiles and says there I am and asks if I found everything I need. "Yea, pretty much got enough to last me a bit." I tell him with a soft smile.
"You get everything you need?" I ask him as I go to the self check in next to him and work on scanning my clothes.

“Yup. Just a couple things with three of us in my apartment,” I tell her, nodding to a couple frozen pizzas and some other stuff. Soon enough I get everything done before I get a text from Eriks. I smile. “Eriks giving us ten minutes. Says he’s waiting outside the north entrance of the mall,” I warn her.

He tells me just a couple of things for the three of us. He nods and soon we are done with the check out and pay for our stuff. He looks at me and smiles saying Eriks is giving us ten minutes and that he is waiting outside for us.
"Well I have pretty much everything I need. So I'm good if you want to head that way so he doesn't throw a fit." I say with a little smile.

“Might as well. I sleep well enough without his lectures.” Smirking I lead her out of the store. We don’t even get to the exit before Eriks pops up looking like a kid who got sent to the corner for time out. I can’t hide my laughter. He rolls his eyes. “Come on, Love Birds. You said we’re relaxing today and relaxing is what I’ll do.”

He smirks and says might as well since he sleeps well enough without his lectures. We walk out of the store and Eriks pops up once he sees us. We both laugh a little thinking it was funny. He rolls his eyes and tells us to come on so we can go relax.
"Yea yea. We're coming. Keep your pants on." I tell him as we start to head out. I get an eerie feeling that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up, like I was being watched.

Lani stiffens at my side. I grab her hand and pull her against my side instinctively. I don’t think of how she’ll react, all I can focus on is her discomfort. My hand slides from hers to hold her waist in a protective manner as we all head back to Lani’s car.

I am surprised when Ezra grabs my hand and pulls me to his side. His hand slips around my waist in a protective manner as we head to my car. My body relaxes a little in his hold, soothed by his protective nature. A moment of safety when I felt scared.
"Thanks." I murmur softly. I was still concerned with whatever spooked me but I wasn't afraid anymore.

“You’re welcome,” i whisper and open the passenger side for her while Eriks goes ahead to the driver’s side. I get in the backseat.
“Hey Clare, can I have the keys?” Eriks asks, for once taking time to breath when he talks.
“Well you’re in a good mood now,” I note. He smirks at me over his shoulder.
“Well I finally got to see my family,” he replies smoothly.

He whispers welcome and helps me into the passenger side before Eriks gets into the driver's side. He brings up keys and I pass them to him as Ezra points out he was in a good mood now.
"Well I'm glad you got to. Hopefully this case will be over soon and you won't have to babysit anymore." I tell him.

From the backseat, I raise a brow seeing something on the back of his shirt. “Why is there glitter on your clothes?” I ask him.
Eriks laughs. I hear the smile in his voice. “I’d have to babysit anyway, Clare. My daughter decided to have a craft day, so her mom is teaching her how to make glitter portraits,” he explains with another laugh, driving us back home.
“Have you heard anything from the chief?”

Ezra points out that Eriks has some glitter on his clothes and he tells us that his daughter was doing crafts and his wife is showing her how to make glitter portraits.
I chuckle thinking that was really cute. He drives us back to the apartment and asks about if we had heard anything from the chief. I shake my head a little.
"Not since she told us not to come in." I tell him and look back at Ezra. "You hear anything?"

“Nothing. I can’t tell if they’re still trying to go through everything as much as they can or if they’re stuck and just refuse to bring us in,” i sigh. “Do you think we should call and ask?”

"Nah, she said to take the day off and we said we are going to relax today. Calling in isn't relaxing and I am sure the chief would call us if they found something." I tell them. Let the chief do her thing and see if they can find something we missed.

I sigh. It’s whenever I’m forced to relax where I have the hardest time doing so. I sit back in my seat as my brain twiddles it’s thumbs. Eriks must’ve noticed my unease. “If you guys are at a loss with relaxing we could watch a ton of cheesy horror movies. I know a whole series that could take up most of the day,” he suggests grinning, parking in the last open space in front.
“Alright. Got nothing else to do; it couldn’t hurt.”
“It’ll hurt when you start laughing.”

I roll my eyes at Eriks suggestion. "Sound good to me. I've got nothing better to do." I tell them as he parkers the car. I grab my shopping bags and head up to the apartment with them. Watching movies and doing nothing sounded like a nice break from the craziness of the case.

I smile and let Eriks lead the way back up the apartment. Lani and I follow close behind with our bags as he jabbers about the movie selection on netflix

We head up to apartment with Eriks leading the way, jabbering about the movie selection on Netflix. I chuckle a little as I walk with Ezra and we get to his apartment.
We head inside once he opens the door and set down our stuff. "So what exactly are we going to be watching?" I ask as I sort through my stuff.

“Neither of you have seen Tremors? Well it takes place in the middle of the desert and it’s about this isolated town called Perfection. Anyway they start getting all this seismic activity and finds out it’s because of these thirty foot worms they name grabboids. It’s super cheesy but fun to watch,” he explains enthusiastically as he cues it up on the tv.

Eriks asks us if we heard about a movie called Tremors. He explains the gist of it and cues it up. "Well I guess we are going to find out." I say playfully and find the pair of pajamas I got.
"I'll be back." I tell them and go change into them before I come back and curl up on the couch.

Ezra
I kick off my shoes and put the groceries away while Eriks takes control of my tv. Then I pop a couple bags of popcorn for us all and grab the big bowl out. Lani changes already in the pajamas she bought and curls up on the couch, almost looking like a kitten with how she’s all scrunched up in the corner. I blush lightly and turn away before she sees my pink cheeks.

Lani
Ezra comes out with a big bowl of popcorn. "Mmm." I say leaning over to snag a handful. "This is kind of nice. I can't remember the last time I just sat down and watched a movie." I say as I eat the popcorn with a little smile.
"Come on, Ezra." I say patting the spot with me. "Sit so you can come watch."

“I’m coming. Just taking my time,” I reply as I pour some melted butter over the popcorn. Then I join Lani on the couch while Eriks occupies the recliner. I set the popcorn on the coffee table—it’s not even there a minute when Eriks swallows a fistful of buttery goodness.

He tells me he is coming and he is just taking his time. I chuckle softly and he finally comes and joins us. He plops down on the couch with me and sets the popcorn on the table. Eriks snags a hand full of it before he clicks on the movie.
I chuckle softly and grab some for myself before I curl up against Ezra, resting my head on his shoulder. I pop pieces of the buttery delicious popcorn in my mouth as the movie starts.

I curl up around her without thought with her small body right in front of me. While she nibbles on the popcorn I pull a blanket over us. The three main characters start pole vaulting over boulders to get to a truck and avoid the worm things. My head lolls a bit to rest on her hair. Meanwhile Eriks is laughing his ass off at some dumbass remark.

He curls around me drawing my body into his. He wraps a blanket over us as we watch the movie. His head resting against mine. Eriks laughing from the chair over but I too focused on Ezra.
His arms wrapped around me. His breath in my ear. His heart steadily thumping against my back. It felt so right. So perfect. I didn't want to lose him. I couldn't. His mother was right about me already being attached to him.
I tuck my head under his chin resting my cheek against his neck. Half watching the movie, half just enjoying being close to him.

I pay little attention to the movie, more focused on Lani. Every now and then I smile or laugh at the characters but she holds my attention more so. For once my magic remains calm so I’m able to enjoy the intimacy. At least as much as I can with Eriks in the room. My chin rests on her hair with my lips dangerously close to her ear.

Half through the movie I'm honestly not watching anymore. I'm way too focused on Ezra. I can feel his breath on my ear as my own breathing starts to match his. Our magic both soothed as the calmness of each other.
Under the blankets I link my fingers through his letting them rest on my lap. For a second I almost wish Eriks wasn't here.

My fingers tingle holding her hand—not like before with a huge shock but with a small spark. It’s comforting, really. I squeeze her hand back and nuzzle her as we cuddle under the blanket. Eriks completely oblivious to our affection. On the screen some poor fool gets swallowed up by the worm while we snuggle, my thumb stroking the backs of her hand.

He squeezes my hand softly and nuzzles me as we stay cuddled up under the blanket. My eyes close slightly as he strokes his thumb over the back of my hand. Something happens on the screen but I keep my eyes closed as I rest against him.
It was strange to feel this peaceful. I couldn't remember the last time I felt this at ease. I liked it through, it felt safe and comforting.
"Thanks." I say with a smile as he tells me let's do myself first in case Eriks gets fussy. At least I'll have all of my stuff I need. "Come on, rookie. Let's go shopping." I say playfully linking my arm through his as we walk into the mall.
