Review:
I read the first book a few years ago and always meant to go back. This book didn't really do any sort of recap so I found the first part difficult. I ended up grabbing the first one again and rereading the beginning to remind myself who everyone is and what the situation is.
As I reminded myself, the story revolves around the sarcastic 80s-music loving Dex Daley, a human, and the stoic Sloane Brodie, a Therian aka Shifter. In the first book, Dex transferred to the Thirds, a government enforcement agency made of up teams of multiple human/therian pairs. Sloane, team leader of the Destructive Delta, had been without a human partner since his had been killed in action. The two were paired together and sparks flew.
This book picks up a few months from where the last one ended with the team investigating the new terrorist group that popped up in the last group which seeks to get rid of the Therians. The book splits its time between the terrorist group and Dex and Sloane's new relationship which is tested due to the secrets the group uncovers.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and plan to continue the series, likely sooner this time.

Review: I am quite enjoying the relationship between Eve & Roarke. To be honest, the mystery is only a side note, really. I had this one figured out quite a bit before Eve did. Jess was an ass, and (view spoiler)
And, Oh. My. Gosh. That scene on the lawn! Where's my fan?

Yes, I've forgotten it 😢 I'll do it this evening, sorry.

It's curious to read this installment in the series when you've read the last one not much time ago. You can see how the series makes the characters to grow up. In this book, Eve and Roarke are well together but they are not comfortable yet. Eve has to face her inner demons when she investigates this murder, a victim that you want to cheer the killer every time you discover something new about him. If he had been stabbed more than once, you could think that the theater is the Orient Express :-D
As usual from my side, cries at some points in the book, because of Eve and Roarke's relationship and events related to the crime. Even if it's a book I read about 15 years ago, it's a book that you enjoy again, more at this moment when you know where the series is.

Review: I love to gush about Vera Nazarian. She has a wonderful imagination! Her writing is not the most polished I've ever read, but her flaws are easy to overlook. I've had this one for awhile, but hesitated. I didn't really believe she could go from a Hunger Games-esque SciFi odyssey to an historical fantasy (or, actually, the reverse, but that's the order I read them in). But she did it so well. I'm still waiting for book 4 in the

The Premise: Death appears beside the queen's deathbed and announces that until his Cobweb Bride appears to him at Death's Keep in the Northern Forest, dying will cease. People will still die, but Death will not take them. And so, the elderly on their deathbeds continue to struggle for breath. Soldiers fighting in battle die and get right back up.
But who is this Cobweb Bride? Where is this Keep? A proclamation is sent out, and women begin trying to find the Keep, to present themselves as potential brides. And so, our adventure begins.

Charlie Henderson is half demon/half human and has had a horrible life, tortured, beaten, abused, owned by various full demons and mockingly called Muse. Muse has also survived numerous assassination attempts, most notably from her half-brother, Val, but also any lesser demon thinks she is fair game. She was saved from her last Owner Demon by Akil, one of the 7 Princes of Hell. But Akil, is the Prince of Greed and with him there is always a price.
Muse has been trying to live a normal human life for the last 5 yrs, as a blacksmith/weaponer, her element is fire & chaos, when a strange demon comes into her forge & 5 minutes later there is an explosion & her workshop is wiped out.
Akil & Stefan seem to take turns being the bad guy, and Muse is totally out of her depth and has been deliberately lied to by every owner/demon she's ever come across. She is told by every single person she meets that she is naive or innocent, meaning she has no clue what is going on. And that got old.
I enjoyed this story but there was just something that kept it to 3 stars for me, not sure what it is, though the sex just seemed thrown in for the sake of it and didn't do anything for the characters or plot.

I don't really know how I feel about this book. It has had some interesting parts, and not a bad rythm, but I didn't like the MC: so good, so saint... too much for me, really. And those characters saying: no, you're too good for me... but I'm hurting you anyway. It's not the kind of plot I like. Anyway, I liked the writing, and I'm going to try to read the second book, because I think I can like the characters better.

Rating: ★★★☆"
Is that a 3/5 for the rating?
I think I have us all updated for the time being. I'm close to finishing my demon book, but likely won't today. No team is one away so I'm not in a rush. I'll check back later today for the new shelf.

Review
This is another good entry in the series. First of all, I must confess I totally loathe brooding MCs. Those dark and moody heroes are not my cup of tea. Here we have two charactes with a scarred past but they aren't all the time sulking about it. They are very differents in the outside but very similar in the inside. And, when they commit, they do it, it's not an on-off relationship because of nonsenses. There are issues, of course, but not because of "I don't deserve it, life is very hard".
So, I've enjoyed a lot the book, and I think I only have another one in the series to read ;(

Book: The Black Parade
How it fits: Tagged as Demons seven times
Rating: 3/5
Date read: 4/15
Review:
Like many people, I picked up this book when Ilona Andrews recommended it and it was free. I like free.
The Black Parade is about Jordan, a seer who can see dead people. Side note, she comments on having a boy name. Jordan was a top 100 girls name between 1989 and 2006 in the US. While traditionally a male name, a 20 something in 2013 female named Jordan is not unusual.
Anyway, back to the book. She is charged with helping 200 souls find their final wish and move on to heaven after she accidentally killed a seer and if she fails, she goes to hell. We meet her when she is approaching her deadline and almost has every soul accounted for and she meets a poltergeist, a ghost who can touch and affect objects.
To be frank, I finished this a few days ago and while it was fine, I don't plan to continue the series and I just don't feel like going more into the book. It was fine. I did enjoy the first part, but about a third of the way in I lost interest.
