Ora (oeamis) I LOVE Nalini Singh!!!

Can't blame you about the Scarlet Letter. What made it worse was having to discuss it in class.

I LOVE Ready Player One. I just recently reread it. I can't wait to see the movie in a couple of weeks.

I love Nalini too. Can’t say I’m real excited by this new series she’s got going with the other changelings, but I’m still hanging in there and hoping they get better. But I might pass on Ocean Light (Psy-Changeling Trinity, #2; Psy-Changeling, #17) by Nalini Singh , I’m not a fan of Bo, and really wouldn’t mind too much if the thing in his brain blows up. LOL

Final Thoughts:
This one was pretty decent though it felt kind of basic. I guessed who the traitor was pretty early on. It's never the most obvious so I wasn't fooled. I will definitely checking out the rest of the series. Especially Moros' book. His character was the most interesting to me.

Book: One Foot in the Grave
Author: Jeaniene Frost
Date Finished: 3/19/18
Rating: ★★★★
How it fits: Shelved 12x; 357 pgs

Review: Even though I enjoyed the first book, I probably would not have picked up the second book so soon if I hadn't run into my friend, Samantha, last weekend. It's nothing personal, I just have so many series going right now that I really didn't want to add another just yet. But, her gushing about Cat & Bones after all the times she's listened to me gush about books, I knew I had to read it sooner rather than later.

This installment was fast-paced, full of revelations, and lots of fun. I can see why Samantha (and just about everyone else) loves this series.

Melissa Davis | 790 comments THE BANGLES BOOK TAG

1. Eternal Flame – What book will you never lose passion for?

I re-read The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry on the regular ... it's my go-to book when I'm feeling down, when I need advice about love or when I just need a little bit of hope. It's been my #1 book of all time for like 25 years.
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

2. Manic Monday – What book helped you zone out when life was manic?

Hands down, the best series for escapism is the Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole.
The Warlord Wants Forever (Immortals After Dark #1) by Kresley Cole

3. Walk like an Egyptian – What book took you to a country you have never visited?

The Beat and the Pulse series by Amity Cross takes place in Austrailia. So good ... so steamy. Yum. Who knew I was interested in MMA??
Beat (The Beat and the Pulse, #1) by Amity Cross

4. In your room- What book or series is you guilty pleasure?

Sinners on Tour by Olivia Cunning made me blush almost the whole way through. Holy moly!
Backstage Pass (Sinners on Tour, #1) by Olivia Cunning

5. Hero takes a fall – Which hero do you wish didn’t succeed?

America Singer from The Selection by Kiera Cass. I read the 1st 3 books with my daughter last year and it was miserable. This series was the worst. I just kept wishing that she would fall off a cliff.
The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass

6. Hazy shade of winter – Which book puts you in a good mood?

The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne. I just love Oberon!
Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne

7. Following – What book deserves more love?

The Fallen Angels Series by J.R. Ward. Devina is probably my favorite villian of all time.
Covet (Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward

Ora (oeamis) THE BANGLES BOOK TAG

1. Eternal Flame – What book will you never lose passion for?

Forever Mine by Monica Burns This is one of my favorite books that I have reread several times and love it more each time.

2. Manic Monday – What book helped you zone out when life was manic?
I love Lisa Kleypas and her Wallflower series Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas and the spin off the Hathaways Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, #1) by Lisa Kleypas

3. Walk like an Egyptian – What book took you to a country you have never visited?
England and Scotland for just about any historical I have read.
As far as several countries in one book, Silence Fallen (Mercy Thompson, #10) by Patricia Briggs Italy going through the European countryside to the Czech Republic.

4. In your room- What book or series is your guilty pleasure?
BDB Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward

5. Hero takes a fall – Which hero do you wish didn’t succeed?
Van (Cold Fury Hockey, #9) by Sawyer Bennett Simone Fournier. I liked her in previous books with her brothers. A lot of the things she did was unreasonable for her situation. She came from an upper class family and both brothers play in the NHL, however she felt she had no choice but to become a stripper. Instead of an heroine embracing her sexuality as a modern woman as the author wanted, she came off as slutty and the good time girl. When she left Van I was so happy. I just wished he didn't go after her.

6. Hazy shade of winter – Which book puts you in a good mood?
Big Rock (Big Rock, #1) by Lauren Blakely I love this series. Lauren Blakely always put me in a good mood.

7. Following – What book deserves more love?
Splintered (Splintered, #1) by A.G. Howard I just recently listened to this series and fell in love with it.

Ora (oeamis) I do love Sawyer Bennett’s Cold Fury series.

message 115: by AliciaJ (new)

AliciaJ | 781 comments Ora, I felt the exact same way about Simone. By the end of the book I was just fed up with her. Van deserved soo much better than someone who just kept playing games with him, and I really hated the way she ignored him every time he told her no. It really made me uncomfortable. Anyway, not one of the better books in that series IMO.

Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this one, it was a perfect way to spend a few hours this weekend. I thought the fallen angel Olivia was a great match for Aeron. I loved their banter and the way she stood up to him but still maintained that wonderful innocence and innate kindness that made her who she was. I did think the ending was a bit too easy, but at least the author didn't (view spoiler) I am definitely looking forward to reading more books in the series. Who knows, I might even get caught up on it this year! I can only hope...LOL

AliciaJ | 781 comments THE BANGLES BOOK TAG

1. Eternal Flame – What book will you never lose passion for?
Shanna by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss -One of my first romances, and it still gives me all the good feels after all these years.

2. Manic Monday – What book helped you zone out when life was manic?
Naked in Death (In Death #1) by J.D. Robb -Eve and Roark are my go to when life starts getting crazy.

3. Walk like an Egyptian – What book took you to a country you have never visited?
Red Dirt Heart (Red Dirt, #1) by N.R. Walker -I've always wanted to go to Australia, but until I can get there in person, NR Walker's Red Dirt series is the next best thing.

4. In your room- What book or series is your guilty pleasure?
Try (Temptation, #1) by Ella Frank -Logan and Tate, and that's all I have to say about that ;)

5. Hero takes a fall – Which hero do you wish didn’t succeed?
Daisy's Back in Town (Lovett, Texas, #1) by Rachel Gibson -I couldn't stand Daisy from the very beginning of this book, and it only got worse as the story went on. I really didn't think she deserved a happy ending at all.

6. Hazy shade of winter – Which book puts you in a good mood?
Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh -Nalini does it every time

7. Following – What book deserves more love?
Stiletto (The Checquy Files, #2) by Daniel O'Malley -I read this last year and it was amazing, but I haven't seen anyone else talking about it.

Yes! The Rook was fantastic, I loved Myfanwy too. At first I was disappointed that Stiletto didn’t continue her story, but I was sucked in pretty quickly anyway. I would definitely recommend giving it another shot. Hope it works better for you the second time around :)

I love the Bradford men. They are so funny when it comes to their obsession with food. I did love Trevor however he could be a bit of an unknowing jerk. I say it that way because once he is called out on his inconsiderate behavior he does start to adjust it. Throughout most of the book he fights falling for his neighbor. He justifies why he is attracted to her and that he doesn’t want a relationship. At least he figures out he loves Zoe before it’s too late. He does o some extremely funny things in order to get Zoey to realize that he wants her and prevents her from leaving.

Review: Every book is better than the last. I freaking love JY. Soooo, sooooo many things happen in this one and I suspect that there are going to be some serious ramifications. The last 30% is so intense - my stomach was in knots the whole time! I can't imagine that Leo will let Jane's latest transgressions slide. I don't want to give away any spoilers but things we have been waiting for from the beginning come to fruition which was exciting and frustrating and exciting. Also, this is the book, along w/ the short story Off the Grid, that connects us to the Soulwood series. (I just love Nell!) Dark Heir is next & I need to start it right now! I have to know what happens next!

I liked it. Mostly. I don't know why but I thought it was going to be funnier than it actually was. I wasn't a big fan of Perry's presence in the last third of the book. Review:

Lisa Kleypas has an amazing talent, especially for writing wonderful historical romances. In this one, I adored the heroine. She's the only female dr in England, and she's brilliant. She's the perfect match for the dark, but lonely, hero. I loved the depth of their connection and the way they kept each other honest. I can't wait for the next book to come out, I have no doubt it's going to be another 5 star read.

Melissa Davis | 790 comments So, I was browsing YouTube/Google for another book tag for us ... I was actually looking for one that was an "All About Me" - I didn't find what I wanted but I'll keep looking. However, I did find a Labyrinth Book Tag that made me squeal because #1. DAVID BOWIE and #2. this is definitely in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I haven't watched the video b/c I didn't want my answers to be influenced by her choices but if you want to check it out it's here: Pages & Pens' Labyrinth Book Tag

Also, if someone else wants to find a tag for us to do next Tuesday, please feel free.

Now, the questions:

The Labyrinth Book Tag

1. Sarah: A character that found strength without a love interest.

2. Hoggle: A character you weren’t sure whether to love or hate at first.

3. Ludo: A character almost too innocent to be real.

4. Didymus: A clueless character you either love or hate.

5. Jareth: A villain you can’t help but love.

6. Fire Dancers: What secondary character really got on your nerves?

7. The Labyrinth: A book with plot twists you never saw coming.

8. The Bog of Eternal Stench: What trope or writing style that will immediately make you put down a book?

9. The Oubliette: What book or series you will never finish?

10. The 13th Hour: What book kept you up all night or did you read in one day/sitting?

11. Crystal Balls: What book do you wish the main character had a crystal ball so they could avoid miscommunications?

12. You Have No Power Over Me: What book or series didn’t you understand the hype for?

13. Dance Magic Dance: A book that will always make you happy.

Melissa Davis | 790 comments The Labyrinth Book Tag

1. Sarah: A character that found strength without a love interest.
I had a bunch of ideas pop into my head and then I realized that they were all middle-grade book characters. I wanted to pick one that's more in line w/ this group so, I'm going with Meg from The Others Series by Anne Bishop. She is definitely not interested in love at the beginning of the series but she does find the strength and will to survive after escaping the compound.
Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop

2. Hoggle: A character you weren’t sure whether to love or hate at first.
Rick LaFleur in Jane Yellowrock - I could tell that I was supposed to love him but I just thought he was a douchebag. On the flipside, I like him just fine in the Soulwood series. He makes a good and competent boss. Just not a fan of him as relationship material and I felt that way about him long before JY book 7.
Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter Blood of the Earth (Soulwood, #1) by Faith Hunter

3. Ludo: A character almost too innocent to be real.
Simi fom the Chronicles of Nick & The Dark Hunter Universe by Sherrilyn Kenyon. All she needs is a bottle of bbq sauce to be happy.
Infinity (Chronicles of Nick, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Acheron (Dark-Hunter #14) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

4. Didymus: A clueless character you either love or hate.
♥♥ Oberon ♥♥ from The Iron Druid Chronicles is so sweetly clueless. It doesn't matter if he's running for his life, as long as he has sausages he's completely content. Throwing in an occasional poodle sure doesn't hurt either.
Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne

5. Jareth: A villain you can’t help but love.
Mr. Wednesday from American Gods. He's so crooked but I just love him!
American Gods (American Gods #1) by Neil Gaiman

6. Fire Dancers: What secondary character really got on your nerves?
Hands down, Donavan Caine from Elemental Assassin. He is literally the worst.
Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep

7. The Labyrinth: A book with plot twists you never saw coming.
I know that it's totally overhyped now but when I read Gone Girl for the first time I was totally freaking out. I can remember listening to the audiobook at work, gasping and totally stressing out over what was going on in the story. There were four of us reading/listening together and I would have to log out of my workstation to talk to one of the other girls because I just couldn't believe what was happening. I don't think I've read anything since that has affected me while I was reading it as strongly as this one did.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

8. The Bog of Eternal Stench: What trope or writing style that will immediately make you put down a book?
I really hate when women are bitchy in books. I'm not talking about snark & sass - I love the sarcastic sense of humor that so many heroines seem to have. To me, bitchy is intentionally malicious. It's just unnecessessary. I'm looking at you, Big Little Lies.
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

9. The Oubliette: What book or series you will never finish?
My baby sister is ging to kill me for saying this but anything Cassandra Clare/Shadow Hunter related is totally off the table for me. I really enjoyed the time I spent reading this series with my sister but nope. Not gonna finish that.
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare

10. The 13th Hour: What book kept you up all night or did you read in one day/sitting?
Most recently was Broken Soul (JY#8).
Broken Soul (Jane Yellowrock, #8) by Faith Hunter

11. Crystal Balls: What book do you wish the main character had a crystal ball so they could avoid miscommunications?
Definitely Chess from Downside Ghosts. She's such a mess but I love her anyway.
Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane

12. You Have No Power Over Me: What book or series didn’t you understand the hype for?
This one has been a long standing head scratcher for me ... On the Road by Jack Keroac. I have DNF'd this book probably 15x b/c I hate it. I know I should have read it in my teens when maybe it could have meant something about being young, wild, and free to me but I read it too late and I've experienced too much to ever be okay with the behavior/attitudes in this book.
On the Road by Jack Kerouac

13. Dance Magic Dance: A book that will always make you happy.
Like a hole in the Head by Jen Branbury. It was the first time that I had ever read something so crazy and just for the sheer adventure.
Like a Hole in the Head by Jen Banbury
