What are you reading in February 2018?
I'm almost done with The Clan of the Cave Bear and Prince of Fools.
Still slowly reading Kraken and An Echo of Things to Come.
Still slowly reading Kraken and An Echo of Things to Come.
Finishing Servant of the Empire, then Cloak of Magic, then Mistress of the Empire, then Hexed, and finally Shadows Linger.
I started Dark Echoes of Light: Legends of Agora, but then Phil Tucker released Trial of Kings. I'll probably finish Trial of Kings first. After that, I'm not really sure. I have several books on the "To Read" list, so that's likely where I'll find my next read.
hi all, I'll be finishing Broken Homes before moving on to Foxglove Summer, The Furthest Station, The Hanging Tree and A Rare Book of Cunning Device.
Meanwhile, my work is currently in a down period so I am getting a lot of free time, using that to read Attack on Titan, Vol. 1 through Attack on Titan #22
I just finished The Tombs of Atuan (it's only 45,000 words or so; barely longer than a novella) and will be starting The Farthest Shore before I go to bed tonight.
Currently reading Tigana and making my through the Dresden Files, about to start Turn Coat, on audio book.
Finished Uprooted last night. Loved it! I especially like how the main conflict is resolved.Started The Shining for a group read.
Femmy wrote: "Started The Shining for a group read."My favorite King book. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Currently finishing off the The Core which is great so far. Then onto The Caldera. After that I'll get to the group read.I don't know after that.... looking for inspiration...

Dumb question: when does a novella become a novel? Is it the word count or the complexity of the plot?

Kraken was a DNF for me, at 46%. A bit too weird for me :o I'll still try another book by Mieville later though.
Still slowly reading An Echo of Things to Come and started Blood Rites which is great!
(view spoiler)
Also got a bunch of manga & graphic novels from the library, so I'll read Tokyo Ghoul, tome 1, Vinland Saga, Tome 1, Saga, Vol. 1 and their subsequent volumes :)

Some books I read recently and loved:
- His Majesty's Dragon: fun and easy to read. The relationship between Laurence and Temeraire is great!
- The Whitefire Crossing: an unusual take on magic and a well-drawn cast of characters.
- To Ride Hell’s Chasm: character-driven tale with a beautiful prose.
Hope I gave you ideas for your next read :)

I recommend To Ride Hell’s Chasm. It's really good.

I am currently reading A Wizard of Earthsea as part of a twitter group read. I am also rereading dragon books starting with Dragonsdawn The original Pern books are some of my all time favourites and I'm feeling the need for comfort reading after beginning Senlin Ascends and not really getting on with it. Not sure why but I don't feel any need to get to the end to find out how it turns out. I suspect that as it's the first in a series, it possibly doesn't have a real ending.

I agree Janette. I don't really feel a need to continue either. But I might change my mind.

Abaddon's GateKraken
Deadhouse Gates
Illuminae
Red Tide: Book 3
World Without End
Cibola Burn
We'll see after that.
Ctgt wrote: "Wrapping up Legend later today with The Thousand Names waiting in the wings."I enjoyed Legend, but it didn't really seem much different than a lot of other dystopian lit. Thousand Names is one of my new favorites though. Hope you enjoy that one!
Robin wrote: "I enjoyed Legend, but it didn't really seem much different than a lot of other dystopian lit. Thousand Names is one of my new favorites though. Hope you enjoy that one!"I enjoyed Legend especially considering it clocked in under 400 pages. It was nice to have a concise, entertaining story that didn't need another book to continue the plot.
Only fifty pages in to Thousand Names but I'm already hooked. Loving the character intros.
Duskfall by Christopher Husberg really impressed me. It's not often that I find an epic fantasy that has such a new story line any more & isn't just weird. It's his debut novel, which is even better. I gave it a 4 star review here:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

You're welcome :) Let us know if you end up reading them!

I'm definitively trying the Bas-Lag series.

Cheers Tnkw01, ive put it on my TBR
Oh, my local library may throw a monkey wrench into my February reading plans. I may be reading Pawn of Prophecy sometime this month. I'm next on the list for this book.
I finished Truthwitch last night and I really enjoyed it. I want to read book two, but first I'm going to read Beneath the Sugar Sky.
I am way behind on Princess Bride. I'm enjoying it (I skipped the tens of pages of front matter entirely) so I want to take it slowly, and I'm finding I have very limited available time to actually sit down with a real book with a cover and pages and everything. I read ebooks while I'm on the exercise bike and in that fashion I'm reading Discworld #14, Lords And Ladies, which I'll finish soon for my personal series challenge. After that I'm strongly considering taking Jim and other's advice elsewhere and trying an audiobook version of a book I've already read though it was years (decades?) ago: Good Omens.
Jesús wrote: "Currently reading Senlin Ascends. Will be moving on to The Shadow of What Was Lost after!"Senlin is great! I loved the second book even more.

To me, Martin Jarvis, the narrator, lent to the humor of the book. I recommend it.

Finished The Farthest Shore and decided that was a good place to leave Earthsea, at least for now; so started rereading Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch for the first time in many years, and it is delightful.(Hey! I'm actually reading a group pick during the month that it was picked!)

Whoops, I was thinking of the wrong dang book sorry. Should have clicked on the link. (I had to read a lot of of YA for class this last semester so I was thinking of of the Marie Lu series). Legend is actually on my to-read list and I'm looking forward to reading it.
For some reason, I had a urge to go back and reread The Burrowers Beneath by Brian Lumley. Its a book set in the world of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. I read this first as a teen back when it was first released back in the 70s not long after I had first discovered H.P. Lovecraft (a friend loaned me a copy of At the Mountains of Madness and I was hooked. I still enjoyed the book and may continue on with the rest of Lumley's Titus Crow series.

I was trying to figure out the dystopian angle you were talking about. Guess I should have added the cover :)

I'd assumed Gemmell but then thought oh it was the other.

Helen wrote: "Are you going to read the second book Spinning Silver?"Yes, I plan to read it some time in the future. I love retellings.
I just found out the G.P. Ching released a spin-off of her Soulkeeper's Series, which I loved. It's now on my list for this month.
So I finished Cloak of Magic. Gave it a 2 star rating. Didn't really like it. Here's my review . Starting Pawn of Prophecy.
I love The Belgariad. Pawn of Prophecy is probably the least good but they all work together. Brilliant characters. Silk is my all time favourite

I am really enjoying it. I really like Mr. Wolf.

Eddings is a favorite in my household, too. I think all of us (me, my wife, & 3 kids - the kids were born while it was being written) read it a few times. You'll need to read the entire Belgariad, all 5 books, but I'd suggest skipping the Mallorean since it's just more of the same. I never read the Codex, but Polgara & Belgarath are mostly repetitions of what's in the other books, too. I highly recommend the Elenium trilogy, too. There aren't many better supporting characters than Faran, Sparhawk's horse, & Flute. Skip the Tamuli trilogy, though. Like the Mallorean, it's more of the same without the kick. Disappointing, but not awful.
