Book Shelves Team Challenge
For this team challenge, teams will be reading books for each of the book shelves listed below. Like in team challenges past, you will need to communicate with your team to determine who is reading a book for which shelf so nothing gets missed and you don't spend the week all reading the same shelves. There are 81 shelves to choose from. Your team is not expected to read a book for every shelf. Instead, the object is to read as many books as you can for as many shelves as you can. The team who reads the most shelves at the end of the week will be the winner!

Rules
1. In order for the book to count for the challenge, the shelf must be listed on the first page of your book's top shelves (i.e. the first 100 shelves).
2. Shelves must match exactly. For example, "to-buy" is not the same as "want-to-buy" and "loved" is not the same as "loved-it."
3. Your team can only read a book once per shelf so you will need to coordinate and communicate to be certain you're not reading over one another. One book per shelf. If two team members are reading the same book, each member must choose a different shelf for that book.
4. Books need to be 125+ pages to count. If you're already in the middle of a book before the read-a-thon starts, you can count it for this challenge as long as you have at least 125 pages to go.
5. Have fun! This challenge is about reading more, working together, and having a good time. Lets keep the easy-going, helpful, considerate vibe our group is well known for along with the spirit of competition. :)

Moderators will be here all week to read for their teams, answer questions, and clarify any confusion.

If you're not familiar with where to find the book shelves for your Goodreads books, there is a link to "top shelves" listed below the genres on the right column of the page. See the screenshots below:

Tips
·  Look at the shelves for the books you're most likely to read during the read-a-thon and let your team know what possible shelves you could fill.
·  If you're looking for a specific book to fit a specific shelf you can use the genre search bar to search for specific shelves by name. It will display results for the books most popularly assigned to that shelf. You can also click the links provided for each shelf to go directly to that shelf's popular books page. NOTE: You still need to double check the first page of top shelves for any books you find there to make sure it qualifies.

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Question? What if we are in the middle of reading a book right now and are partially done when the challenge starts?

message 4: by Michelle (last edited Jan 27, 2018 06:19PM) (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments We're not too strict about that, Tracy. The usual rule of thumb is if it is less than 75% completed before the start of the read-a-thon we'll count it.

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Thanks. I might finish one tonight. The other I'm only about 13%.

Sabrina | 393 comments I’m about 70% into east of Eden but since it’s so long I still have a good hefty chunk left for the readathon so I can count that?

message 7: by Michelle (last edited Jan 27, 2018 06:34PM) (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments I'd say yes, Sabrina.

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments Laura made a better suggestion for this. If you have more than 125 pages left (because that's the minimum page requirement) then it counts. I will update the rules to clarify that.

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments question? When we say "match exactly" does that include capitalization of the shelves? example: Romance vs romance?

I honestly thought shelves were always lowercase. But I would say to exclude capitalization i.e. that would be a match

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments What about the hyphen? Is it the same Cyberpunk and Cyber-punk for the match of shelves?

message 13: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments The hyphens represent a space, so I would consider that not an exact match.

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Another question for the mods.... One of our books has lost its shelves 😩. It is marked on the page as to-read and currently-reading by several people, Since these are default shelves shouldn't they be still showing up? Is it possible for a book to have NO shelves?? I'm not sure what happened. I just noticed as I was double checking our list to wrap up and make sure I didn't make any other silly errors this week :-(

This is the book: Jackie Four

That's bizarre. Were the shelves there before? I would say if they were there before then go ahead and count it since it may be a bug of some sort.

There were, although maybe only 5 or 6 so it was HARD to fit it in.

message 17: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments Doesn't it have to be 150 pages?

message 18: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (sgiffin) | 146 comments The rule was 125+ pages

message 19: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments Woot, I can add one I thought as too short at 144!
