Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments so, I've got 3hrs left on Stone Sky (audio), which is going down a treat, let me tell you, utterly brilliant series.
After that, I thought I could pick up, on the audio, The Gustav Sonata, which has MPG music (should screenshot for proof, before GR mucks it off!) Down side is that I think that only works for that one task (sorry, mine haven't been very shiftable, I think :( )

I restarted Brief History of Seven Killings last night, hoping it'll go better now :-/

I'll fit Moonraker in too, don't worry!

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Don't worry if it only fits the one task! It's a task that needs filling and generally something that needs to be read for specifically anyway. So it's all good :-)

Fingers crossed for Brief History of Seven Killings! If you still don't like it, don't force it. We'll read something else for those slots :-)

Moonraker should be a quick read for you. James Bond goes down quite nicely usually.

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Putting that series on my TBR! I like a good dystopia and seems like this is a good one then. And it has lovely covers haha.

No problem! Nope, not Mab, it's Jonah McAllister.

I JUST started it (am far enough in to have found the poem)...so far, so good. I haven't encountered Phineas yet, but am now looking forward to it! :)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments It's been a long time since I read that trilogy. Maybe I should pick it up again and at least flick through to read through some of the passages again.

or finish The Last Necromancer ???

;-P

I looked at that, and the cover just put me off - I have just no need for super short skirted girl covers in my life #judgingbycover

message 1208: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments I didn't mean now ;-)

Yeah, well, the short skirt on the cover... I honestly didn't notice at first haha. I saw the colours. and the story is actually pretty good. It has its ups and downs as most debuts do but overall, I enjoyed the trilogy a lot.

And I'm actually half-way through the Last Necromancer by now, yay! With a bit of luck I'll be done tomorrow evening.
Going to spend tonight on the couch with my Psy-Changeling book, yumm! :-)

message 1209: by Katie (new)

Katie | 230 comments Yeah, it's an awful cover, no doubt.

Enjoy your Psy-Changeling book, Eldarwen! I love that series. I was so sad when I caught up and now have to wait with the masses for the next book.

Definitely glad I have a few more books before I'm at the waiting stage!

Anxiously waiting for the new release in the Guild Hunter series though! And the cover was released not too long ago and it is beautiful!

I have about 35 page left in the book :-)

message 1221: by Katie (new)

Katie | 230 comments LOL! I really enjoyed the book despite it's awful cover. :) I really want to read the next 2 right now, but I will put that aside for after I've finished my other UNO books. :P

Who do you think I am, Cat, Danielle?!?!?

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Katie wrote: "Who do you think I am, Cat, Danielle?!?!? "

This month? yeah, actually! You've been reading up a storm - more books on the cards than I have, I think!

Not that it's a competition...
(It IS a competition! I'm going to switch to silly easy books once I've finished the massive A Brief History of Seven Killings (it's not brief, in the least!))

Harry Potter! They are the best ones I have listened too :)

Hmm my very first audio was James Marsters reading Harry Dresden. Those are good and definitely while away the time. They also got me hooked on going through the entire series on audio.

Other decent audio is found in the Iron Druid Chronicles.

Otherwise, I don't listen to much on audio because I am generally not a fan, but those two go down nicely as audios.

message 1229: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Kelly wrote: "Harry Potter! They are the best ones I have listened too :)"

Yes! And those! Read by Stephen Fry obviously :-)

message 1230: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Next book:

Melody and Murder (Melody The Librarian #1) by Leslie Leigh

I'll read it for the "40. with a newspaper or book on the cover" task, and it's a short one, too, yay!

message 1231: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments I've found that listening to nonfiction works quite well well for me.
I listened to Alan Cummings memoir Not My Father's Son recently, which was good. Harrowing, but good.
Wil Wheaton is a good narrator (Ready Player One / Redshirts)
The Rivers of London series, narrated by Kobna Holbrook Smith is brilliant. I loved the books then tried the audio - adds to the book content brilliantly.
Non genre fiction, Jeanette Winterson reads Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit so well, it made me love the book that I'd previously been indifferent to (ditto James Franco reading Slaughterhouse Five). And Rosamund Pike's version of P&P is excellent too.

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Eldarwen wrote: "Kelly wrote: "Harry Potter! They are the best ones I have listened too :)"

I'm led to believe that the Americans have a different version of the audio. Heresy!
Did you hear the snippet that Stephen had difficulty with saying a phrase in one of them, asked if he could change the wording, JK said no & then used the phrase in all the subsequent (unwritten) books!?!

message 1233: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Hahah, really???

Had not heard that, no. Evil *grin*

message 1234: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments James Franco read Slaughterhouse Five? Well, well, I might have to try and get my hands on that audio! :-) He has an interesting voice.

There's also an actor, can't remember the name now, who read You and that made the book rather brilliant where otherwise it might not have been as good.

message 1235: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Actually... Slaughterhouse Five.....

Cat, since you've read, does it work for one of the remaining tasks? From the book's page, it seems like Billy travels to another planet, so.... task 10.

I'd just like confirmation please before I pick it up so I don't read something that isn't useful for the mini.

If it works, then I'll read it this weekend (I have my father's old copy) and listen to at least a part of it while reading - I want to hear what James Franco made of it hehe.

message 1236: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments He does travel to a planet yup!
