Thanks! Okay omg thank you so much because I really really want to discuss it with someone! And I have a feeling you'd appreciate the undercurrent of the story as I did. Some of the feelings the main character has are totally foreign to me and others I know. The foreign ones are portrayed spectacularly. And there were quite a few of them so that makes it great.

Awesome! Yeah you should. Just don't prepare to be smiling. You won't cry either. But you'll feel the deadweight inside...
This book is indeed about mental illness but it's not the stereotypical life sucks and no one cares but oh well I'm just gonna curse a lot YA thing. Far from it. That's what I liked. It shows the horrors of it but also recognizes the help people can get and how it can work with time. I won't say any more but yeah... just read it.

Okay no problem! :) Read through it in a day like I did perhaps or not XD

Alia ~you are not your anxiety~ (aliaongoodreads) | 1727 comments And just so you know I don't mean that towards anybody- there is something behind that stereotype when it is portrayed, it's just that YA authors make it cookie cutter and don't go into it in order to make it simplistic. Because simple makes money. This is not simple.

No problem! Well it definetely sounds like a book worth reading, so I'll be sure to check it out as soon as I can. I've just requested it so it should arrive at the library soon for me to pick up.

Ooh yeah I'm completely looking forward to reading this book.

I've actually been looking for a book about mental illness that actually gets into it, so I'm excited to read it.

Probably though because that seems to be how I've been reading this past week XD

Yeah, I think get what you mean. My goal is that after I finish writing my musical I'm going to write a book, maybe a memoir, about how mental illness has affected my life.

message 205: by Erin (new)

Erin | 26808 comments I don't know how to explain this and maybe I won't have to but you know how I say I write for myself? That's like the biggest truth I'll probably ever say. With my musical it's to talk about an everyday persons life with anxiety. I'm writing that musical now to show myself what it means to be a child with anxiety. I don't want to grow up and forget what it feels like to be a child. I want to grow up and still understand and be able to help future generations, you know?

message 206: by Erin (new)

Erin | 26808 comments But when I do start writing this memoir it's going to be hard. I'll have to dig at parts if myself I don't like to think about. I have to write this book to save my self. I have many goals in store for myself for me to be able to love myself and that book is seriously going to be the hardest one.

message 207: by Erin (new)

Erin | 26808 comments And I know it's kinda like a kid shouldn't write a memoir until they're older because then they'll have a full grip of their life but I need to write it as a kid because if I don't, if I don't then I won't see the point if it. The point I want to make out of it is to fly and I won't know that if I write the book way too late.

message 224: by Erin (new)

Erin | 26808 comments Yeah it would! Yeah, it'll probably take some time but lately I've been trying to remember/recites lots of things and I feel like poetry would be fun to do.

It's definitely a book worth reading, and I'm so glad you're getting it!

That's good!

Yeah. Just don't expect it to show too much of what it's like to have it in the real world, like at school or whatever. Caden is too far removed that we hardly know anything about the world outside of his mind and home. His is a drastic example of mental illness but is portrayed masterfully. And at the end, that will be explained if you turn to the author's notes after you read it.

Okay no complaints there!

I think it's amazing that you're writing a musical :D And a memoir is also a good idea if you think it'll help you. Oh yeah don't get misled by people who say you shouldn't write one as a kid. My life could fill many pages... and it's not like I'm a celebrity.
Good luck with all that!

Have you read All the Bright Places? I haven't, but a lot of people said that it glamorizes mental illness and Challenger Deep doesn't.

Ooh.... It sounds like such a good book, especially for the topic of mental illness, because personally I believe the world can never have enough good books about mental illness.

Thanks :D Yeah, the more I think about it the more I think I will abd that it'd help me more, but maybe that's because my lives a mess and I keep seeing more and more signs about mental illness in it.

No, but that's another one of those books that people tell me about but I never got the chance to read it because of being busy or forgetting. I had no idea what it was about though. Maybe I'll end up reading both and comparing them like I'll have to do with the next book I read for school XD
