@Sarah

I love Dragon's Claw. I hope you enjoy it, too.

The supernatural Hong Kong concept is wonderful.

I'm so non-English illiterate! Sorry! but tell me, please. Does Mensch mean Man and Hund mean Hound?

I have smattering of Spanish now, though I was once capable of reading and writing it.

Well, now I rely on the ESL capabilities on Goodreads friends such as Sarah and Cameo. It's very fortunate for me that so many lovely people on Goodreads communicate in English.

Mensch means man or human/people and hund means hound/dog :) At least I remember some of all the years of German in school (Denmark is just atop of Germany, so a lot of us have it in school, just like many Americans have Spanish)

message 75: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I’m reading Lady of the lake the second to last Whitcher novel… It’s taken me three months to read these books with school and getting sick… Way below my normal average.

message 76: by Cameo (new)

Cameo | 1046 comments Mod
@Llaph are the witcher books any good? I've only watched the show, a bit confusing with the timelines being skewed, but come on, Henry Cavill makes everything better ^^

message 77: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I am blind so I don’t know what he looks like, but I enjoy his voice.I lost count of how many times I’ve watched the show, LOL. I really liked the books so far. You can totally see where the first season God most of its storyline from--And for once I really didn’t mind that the show wasn’t 100% in following the books. For the most part they follow chronological order, but in a few parts you get the story from character after they’ve been through it. It’s difficult to describe, but not jarring at all like the jumps in the series our before you’ve watched it 1 million times. Personally, after almost finishing this Book series I can’t wait for the next season because oh em gee at what some of the characters have done. Another thing is that you totally get a better idea about each character because it’s a book it filled in more so you get a better understanding of them. Calanthe is a bigger b in the Book series, LOL. Yinnifer--I dislike her less after reading about her character. I really like how the Child of destiny arc played out—pretty cool and everything hasn’t gone the way other books series have done it. I will say though that it can be very graphic and stuff isn’t nice. Some casual violence since it sticks to Medeival times.

message 78: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments After posting earlier I was reading and reminded of one thing I really like is how he gives rap up stories for minor characters. He’s also not afraid to kill characters you would like either… Some of those stories are nice and some not so much so.

message 79: by Cameo (new)

Cameo | 1046 comments Mod
Okay you've totally sold the series to me now!
They're going on my TBR list right away.
I kind of disliked Yennefer at first too, 'cause she seems like a bitch, but as you get to know her better, she's still a bitch, but you get why LOL.
You're blind? Well you're missing out on Henry Cavill, but to be fair, his voice is just as hot as he is - so maybe you're not missing out after all. Well, maybe a bit, since Cavill doesn't say all that much besides "Hmm" and "Fuck" in the series LOL.
I don't mind books being graphic, I'm not squeemish, and I'm a total history documentary buff, so graphic descriptions of torturedevices, the holocaust, the Mao regime.. it's all very fascinating, albeit gory at times.

message 80: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Yes, for 13 years now. One of the things I pay more attention to is someone’s voice… Plus I used to play video games a lot and that series just worked for me. I love the ambient music and the audio description was very good. The sound effects even remind me of games I have played, LOL. One thing I enjoy about the books is the fact that I can put them down or pick them up and I don’t feel like I’ve missed too much. I will also say one thing… The whole society of sorceresses is just wow. You get a better idea of them around the tower a swallows or the lady of the lake. You can also tell that a guy totally road these books because they are practically nympho’s with magic.

message 84: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments There’s no need to be sorry at all. I just did that instead of typing out something. I didn’t want to come off as being bitchy about it. And thanks about the video I just picked five things. People would not believe the stuff I have been asked, LOL.

message 85: by Cameo (new)

Cameo | 1046 comments Mod
don't worry, it didn't come off as bitchy :) LOL I can imagine you get some weird and perhaps very personal questions sometimes.

message 86: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I will say peoples idea of what is a personal question can vary greatly. I just don’t care and I always say everybody starts off ignorant at one point or another. I was watching the Witcher again last night, for some reason it helps me to get to sleep, and reminded of Rinfrey’s story from the first episode. In the book… Much, much more detail and you really see her as a sympathetic figure for everything that had been done to her. I think most of the series is from the first book or two since they are mostly short stories.

message 87: by Cameo (new)

Cameo | 1046 comments Mod
Good point, I experience it at little bit myself, because I've chosen to live alone and don't want kids. A lot of people don't get why, and can ask some really personal questions too.
Okay I can't even remember who Rinfrey is - I really gotta watch the show again.
But LOL that it get's you to fall asleep... is it all the grunting from Geralt?

Hello, Dale.

I think you will find that the books in the series just get better and better. Enjoy!!!

message 90: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments At my age in my medical history I will be an extremely high risk for pregnancy. Plus I really never thought having kids was for me. I am the opposite the where I don’t want to live alone--I just got to the point a few years ago where I will stay home alone overnight for the first time in my life. Last year and the year before I actually spent a whole week home alone. People never ask me about that because blind people are asexual and don’t have children or relationships.

I'm perfectly happy on my own, and frequently wish to go home as soon as I leave my apartment. I'm gonna be a crazy old cat lady for sure! :D

Not a fan of either Kim Harrison or Jeaniene Frost, but I hope you guys enjoy ^^

message 93: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I don’t want kids and there’s a high chance if I have it it’ll be a high risk so I don’t even want to chance it. LOL what will be will be I’m just trying to enjoy myself since I spent so many years doing nothing. I like frosts newer stuff compared to when she first started, but I am not as big a fan as I used to be. Same with Harrison--It’s been years since I read something by her.

message 94: by Cameo (new)

Cameo | 1046 comments Mod
Well, welcome to the no babies club then ^^
I tried the first Hollows book by Harrison years ago, and within the first 30 pages, it was a hard no from me. I didn't like the writing style at all, and all the characters felt stiff.
I enjoyed the first couple of Night huntress books from Frost, but the Anita Blake syndrom happened, at it ended up only being about sex and how experimental the sex was getting. I gave up after that.. As I did with Anita blake.

message 95: by Nancy (new)

Nancy | 495 comments Mod
Llaph, Cameo, Dale, or anyone interested?

Are there modern authors who write only one (masterpiece) book, and then stop writing? Margaret Mitchell and Harper Lee come to mind for me.

Anyway, it seems that many authors feel they must write a series of books about the same character(s) rather than a single defining moment that ends the character's tale in one book.

On the other hand, it could just be that I have gravitated toward series-style authors. It is interesting, though.

message 96: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I felt that way about the first night huntress series, but for me it dramatically in proved once she started writing about someone other than Cat and bones. I can’t recall which book it was, one of the last in the series, but there was a scene where they were flying over a cornfield and having sex while flying… it just read as purely ridiculous and logistically impossible. I mean hey, if you’re going to write something like that make it seem kind of possible. I know there is one scene in one of the archangel books by Nalini Singh where they are and it was believable--Even though they had wings. I used to love Anita Blake until around 18 or 19 I think? It got tiresome after that. There are some series that I greatly enjoy and will read at least once a year… But I can’t really think of a writer who does one masterpiece. The only thing that may come close is our. Lee Smith… She has a book series, but in actuality those four books can probably equal one or two of her usual books. LOL I really wish that she would make a series out of some of her books because I really would like to know what happen next with some of the characters.

message 97: by Cameo (new)

Cameo | 1046 comments Mod
Good question Nancy! Off the top of my head, no contemporary author comes to mind.

I think I gave up on Anita Blake at book 16 or 17... I've heard the newer ones a getting good again though.

Hmm maybe I'll give Frost a go again some day. Singh is on my TBR list.
