Love's Blossom (Sweet Grove Beginnings #5) by Emily Murdoch Love's Blossom by Emily Murdoch on Kindle
Another sweet story in the Sweet Grove series. Abigail Bryant is the youngest and just pretty much does her own thing, gardening and being with her family mostly. She is shy and blushes easily. Laken Western is the traveling tinker and wants no roots or anyone or anything to tie him down. He has decided to stay in Sweet Grove to help Abigail grow some medicinal herbs. More grows between the two of them as their attraction blossoms. I have enjoyed reading this series and being back with all of the characters. It is a sweet, clean, romantic series. 5 stars

A Rake's Ruin (Devilish Lords Book 1) by Maggie Dallen A Rake's Ruin by Maggie Dallen on Kindle. A delightful short read of a woman who doesn't believe in love other than that of her family or for the conventional marriage. After watching the torment her father put her mother through with his gambling and infidelity, Claire will marry only for a family of her own. Now that her sister has married and they have reclaimed some financial comfort, Claire can take her time and find a husband. Her brother had lost most of their money with his gambling and now she is afraid he is off to do more damage with his scoundrel friend Lord Nicholas. After following them to the bad, seedy section of town to stop her brother, she finds herself in the arms of the rake and him kissing her. Word gets out of this shameful display and now they will have to marry. The back and forth with the characters was amusing. The only thing I did not like about the book was there was too much constant description of everything and little dialogue. I found myself scanning over pages as it became tedious with the same descriptions.
**I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest review.** 3 stars

I also finished Murder on Washington Square by Victoria Thompson, Gaslight Mystery #4, and loved this one. Here’s my review.

I finished listening to Edge of Darkness by Karen Rose, Romantic Suspense #20, and am sort of sad to be caught up in the series. Here’s my review.

Hope of Romance by Ellie St. Clair Hope of Romance by Ellie St. Clair on Kindle
Lady Polly is the youngest of the family now and is excited about starting her first Season in London. Polly loves excitement and fun and she is in for it. Lord Sebastain Taylor has had his heart broken and chooses to live in his country estate. He is also a very close to friend to Polly's new brother in law. He also is working with the Bow Street Runners, an underground investigative group to rid the society of the riff-raff. He has his sights on the unsavory Earl of Yarley, who has broken many young woman's heart and taken their innocence and caused shame to the ladies and their families. Yarley has made a bet to his friends that he can take Polly. After hearing this, Lord Taylor is going to do everything to protect Polly. Of course this a predictable romance book, but being engaged in the story and characters, it is fun to reach the end. I really enjoy her stories. They are fun, romantic, intriguing, fast reading. This is sort of part of a series, but can be read on its own. 5 stars

Maddie Fortune's Perfect Man by Nancy Robards Thompson Maddie Fortune's Perfect Man
Advanced Readers copy in paperback from Nancy Robards Thompson
I have enjoyed many of her books, but I'm sorry to say, I didn't care for this one. The story line was good but I simply did not like the characters. I felt what Maddie's father did was horrendous after all the time, love and sacrifice his daughter gave to the Fortune business. By making it a challenge on who gets to control the company seeing Mr. Fortune is retiring between Maddie and Zach Carter, whom he took under his wing but is no relation. Maddie started off in the beginning of the book as a mature, confident, strong, smart, independent woman and at the end turned to mush over the charms of man and was acting like a high school teenager. I found Zach self-absorbed, self-centered, manipulative and sly. Maddie's sisters came off to me as spoiled rotten, rich kids. For some reason this whole book just grated at me. I really enjoy the author and love her books. Not just this one. Sorry! 2 stars

Not Quite An Heiress (The Heiress Games #2) by Kristin Wallace Not Quite An Heiress (The Heiress Games Book 2): Palm Cove Tales by Kristin Wallace on Kindle
I have never read a series like this before, where the first book gives you the outline of the story line without the ending, depicting one main character, then the other books go through the story again, involving another main character. Yes, you know the story, but it is told by a different character and perspective. I find it fascinating and I love it. The second book is about Abby Douglas who is not one of the heiresses but is step-sister to Serena Douglas who is. Abby lost her inheritance when an accident happened to her and she discovered she was not her fathers child. It is imperative that they win this contest to help another sister who is dying. Killian O'Connor is one of Cam's friends who has promoted to help with the heiresses. He is a former NFL football star who's wife left him after finding out he will no longer be famous when his career was ending with an injury. He is now in charge of not only keeping an eye on the Douglas sisters, but also his teenage son Rafe, who wants nothing to do with him. Abby is headstrong and determined not be another notch on his bedpost and solely just want to win this and be gone away from him. Killian finds her as a breath of fresh air and a challenge. Two totally different personalities, like oil and water. The mystery of who is trying to sabotage this contest leads to mystery, suspense, intrigue and at times humor and of course romance. I am totally hooked on this series and just love it. The characters are amazing and fun. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. I would suggest when reading this series, you read them in order. You will enjoy it so much more. I CAN'T for the third book.

A Matter of Grave Concern by Brenda Novak A Matter of Grave Concern by Brenda Novak in paperback
This story takes place in the 1800's. Abigail Hale is trying to keep her fathers medical school going by purchasing bodies from notorious grave robbers from the London Supply Company to use as specimens. She hopes someday to step over the boundaries of the times and become a surgeon herself. She finds herself being duped by the 3 men who bring her a corpse. This is where she first encounters Maximillian Wilder. They not only steal the money she paid them, but they steal an ivory elephant that is dear to her from her late mother, and then come back to steal the corpse to sell it to another college. Outraged, Abigail dresses in rags and heads out to the seedy part of town to break into the house where these men live to get her money and elephant back. Max catches her and locks her in his room where she will be staying for a time. Max is not who he claims to be and has a huge secret. This was not only a historical romance, but it was filled with mystery, suspense and intrigue. The story line was strong and the characters were very strong and well defined. I thought the beginning was somewhat dragged out, but once I got into it, I got so caught up in it, it was difficult to put down. I think the author is a wonderful writer and I have read other books by her. 4 stars

Jennifer, Just beyond normal ♑ (jenniferjustbeyondnormal) I started listening to Pride and Prejudice today. First time reading/listening today. Got back to Sins of the Heart. This book seems slow moving for me, so I am hoping it picks up speed soon. Also started Whispered Promises: The Art of Deception / Storm Warning to be able to read the art of deception. I have already read storm warning.

Until We Fall (Falling #5) by Jessica Scott Until We Fall by Jessica Scott on Kindle
Story of two vets who have come back both with their own scars physically and emotionally. Caleb has chosen to hide all his pain in booze until a friend pulls him out of the gutter and gets him involved in his company to keep his mind and hands busy. Nalini has chosen yoga and building her own business with her true knowledge of yoga being from her Indian background. A tornado leads them together in the dark of a basement. Two souls meet and find they can heal together. It's not just a love story, but a powerful story of coming back to sanity and living. Reason I did not give it 5 stars? Being a recovering alcoholic for many years, I feel I would have liked more on the support and maybe a twelve step program. A very powerful book none the less. 4 stars

Lawless by Diana Palmer in paperback
Lawless (Long, Tall Texans #22) by Diana Palmer Lawless by Diana Palmer in paperback
Judd Dunn is a 35-38 year old Texas Ranger/rancher who saved, at the time, 16 year old Chrissy from her abusive father. Married her to keep her safe and get the ranch up and running again. Marriage is purely on paper, but Chrissy is in "love?" with him. ( I call it a crush). She is now 21 and the plan was they would get an annulment when she reached the age. Judd has feelings for her and with different circumstances that arise in the story, it would NOW be a divorce and he isn't sure he wants one. Cash Grier is even older that Judd and has his eyes on Chrissy. The story, romance and heat of the book was good, but I felt disturbed regarding these age differences. Chrissy is too young and immature for him. Judd is too self absorbed and treats Chrissy like garbage. I think it would have been much better if it wasn't so wide spanned in ages. 3 stars
