jaxnsmom | 8341 comments It's not discrimination - it's an homage! And it's hilarious hearing people imitating him :) I saw Dylan years ago with Tom Petty and The Grateful Dead, and wanted 'The Wedding Song' at my wedding.

I'd never heard about the 'borrowing'.

Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments What a great story, J'mom! I'm glad Jackson was there to protect you.

Kirila, your singing in the shower story reminded me of a vacation I went on with my aunt, uncle & cousins. We were camped at campsite in Oklahoma. The men & women's showers were separated by a thin corrugated metal sheeting. I could hear my younger cousin singing "Fi-ga-ro, FigaroFigaro" in a over exaggerated opera voice. It became the thing to do.

One afternoon, I came charging into the living room, singing Figaro at the top of my lungs, looked out the window and saw someone on the sidewalk. I dropped instantly to the floor and stayed there long enough for that person to get to the end of the street.

Now I have to go check out what I'll be gophering for.

message 55: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I´m for Queen too. "Night at the Opera", which connects rock from my favorite band AND opera!
I´m afraid I wont be able to do this toppler. There is a big probability, I will have to work the entire weekend.
:-(((
But I will listen to your chants!
(Enemy Mine would be a good choice, singing the lines with Bohemian Rhapsody´s melody)

LOL! Don't you just want to sway back and forth to the music like the girls to the video!

message 57: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I really just want to stop singing "Animal crackers in my soup"!

Janice - ROFL picturing you :)

Mariab, I hope you get some reward for working extra.

I'm probably going to be at my Dad's, so I'm hoping I'll be able to finish a book.

Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments I have such eclectic taste in music. I may have to use the fruit machine. Hmmmm.... that brings pressing grapes to mind, and thus wine making, and a song!

Bottle of wine
Fruit of the vine

Leave me alone
Let me go home
Let me go home and start over.

Sarah | 18550 comments I've been looking at the titles of possible reads and what song they might fit given word similarities and number of syllables and I've come up with a few ideas. As to whether I can come up with a song for any of them remains to be seen.

I have a very mixed taste in music too. Here are my ideas so far:
- The Body in the Library / Mirror in the Bathroom by The Beat
- Invasion of the Body Snatchers / Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
- The War of the Worlds / Running up that Hill by Kate Bush (covered by Placebo)
- And Then There Were None / Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd
- Genesis / Gigantic by The Pixies
- The Giver / Firestarter by The Prodigy
- The Monster's Wife / Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics (covered by Marilyn Manson)

So now I need to see what I fancy reading on the day. Or use the fruit machine!

Neither am I! My song will be an insult to music :) So I'll probably do a horrible job, and laugh the whole time. The worse sillier, the better. I might even look for a book I can fit into the B-I-N-G-O song. The songwriting isn't a serious task - play with it! Any loopholes you can think of - use them.

I think, if I understand this correctly, you just need to find a book with a title that could be a song title, then write lyrics about that novel that can be sung to your favourite toon. In your case - Lonely Days, Lonely Nights.

That must be extremely frustrating that your realtor bailed like that!

Remember, the song doesn't have to be about the book, Or even use any of the same lyrics (I did in my examples to make it easier). Pretend like you've forgotten the lyrics, and make things up - I do that all the time :)

Unsaidwords, unsaid thoughts,
what'll I do to get you near me

For One More Day, just one more day,
I'd do anything to have you near me

Lonely days, lonely nights,
Without you I'll be Dead By Nightfall

Hey, that was kind of fun. Maybe the key is to have a catchy tune you can easily substitute words into :)

Ooor never really knew the actual lyrics and sing what you thought you heard.☻

Debra and I just tested out some old Cds with the thought in mind of whether they worth keeping or donating. Somehow we discovered that the song Little Green Bag was really meant to be Little Greenback. (view spoiler)

The public so consistently sang "bag" instead of "back" that future releases were titled Little Green Bag. However, if you actually listen to the lyrics the vocalist still says "greenback!☺

I do also. Used to go to the annual Jazz Festival downtown every summer.

Debra and I spent a recent Saturday listening to a jazz trio on the outdoor patio of a local winery. (She's not a cheap date!☺)

Just like our books, every music genre has some excellent contributions. It is difficult to pick a favorite.

Come on who wouldn't smile at this earworm?
