Well now might have to check some of them out for myself and see if there is anything that interests me.

Here are a few lists that people have made featuring GNs:

Well now something like them might take a little bit for me to get into to be honest with you there. But might check some more of them out and see if there is one or two that interst me. Thanks

Amanda | 53 comments Speaking of quick reads, I pulled my copy of Charlotte's Web off the shelf last night to read to my kids. The copy I've had since I was a little girl.

In my head, "Yes, children, I'm reading this book to you solely because I want to introduce you to a classic story. A story I loved when I was a little girl. I wouldn't choose this story just because it will earn me at least 170 points for a reading challenge."

LOL funny you should mention this book as I just read it to the two grandbabies last night.

It is a really good book. And I have actually been meaning to read it to the kids for awhile, but the points did help me pull it off the shelf last night.

Well, mine are toddlers and it was what I had handy at the time to read them when I put them to be. I'd say 4 or 5

Same with audiobooks, which aren’t reading. It is what it is.

My kids are 5 & 7. My 5-year-old is very mothering and interested in animals, so I decided it would hold her attention a little more than some of the other chapter books I've read to them.

I think people who haven't read them have the wrong impression. It's not something that you can tear through just reading the words. I personally can never read more than 2-3 comics per day because it takes time to process. This means a Trade Paperback (commonly and erroneously referred to as a graphic novel, but that's pedantic... But I do have OCD so...) takes me 2-3 days to read, which is about the same as a novel.

Huh... I'd never heard of graphic novels being referred to as "trade paperbacks" like that. I have usually heard the term "trade paperback" being used to refer to the size or edition of a paperback novel. Interesting.

Not to say that's wrong... I've just never heard it

170 points, eh. Too bad I'm reading a library copy. But I am reading it anyway, because it's a BotM for the Children's Books group. (Which you who are parents or grands should all join. [shameless plug])

I write e-mails to myself at work constantly, and I occasionally include a "note to self" in e-mails to other people, but I’ve never posted a message to myself on a public message forum. I guess I need to step up my self-messaging game!

Also, I recommend everybody start using the word “porcupine” in random posts to make Allison’s search harder. ;)

Rude =P

This wouldn't be necessary at all if Goodreads got its way overdue facelift. Or if I trusted myself to remember things. Alas and alack. I'll have to outsmart not just me, but those wily few seeking to sabotage my BRILLIANT AND NOT AT ALL WEIRD plan. ^^

Sarah | 3167 comments Would it be possible to create a folder to track our various challenges? Then anyone who wanted to create a thread under their name with links to the challenge and a comment number or whatever. Just a thought. I belong to another group called The Challenge Factory and that’s what they do (and how I track all my challenges in this group).

message 327: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (last edited Jan 05, 2018 04:30PM) (new)

Allison Hurd | 14221 comments Mod
Dear friends. As we are already at 7 pages and people are asking questions AND trying to plan here, Sarah and I have decided that we're going to try having individual challenge threads in this folder.

Here are the rules.

1. All questions and updates for the group should be posted in the challenge threads. Mods will NOT be checking individual threads.

2.You can name it whatever you'd like as long as it's not graphic or rude, and contains your name in the title.

3. The name of your challenge should include whether or not you'd like to allow people to comment on your thread.

Ex. Allison's Gonna Totally Stay Focused 2018 - No Comments

or

Allison's Gonna Change Her Mind Constantly! - Comments OK

4. If anyone is breaking rules on your thread (either those you set or group rules) please message either of us and link to the issue. We'll take care of it.

5. Each member gets one thread for ALL group challenges, not one thread per challenge.

Have fun and good luck!!

Sarah | 3915 comments A question for people who actually know things about tech stuff... Is it possible to import your kindle books from amazon into a spreadsheet? I would love to get all of those owned and unread onto a spreadsheet but I have over 2000 and that's... daunting.

Do you use Calibre? That's what I use to track and manage my ebooks. If they are all on your kindle, they should auto populate in Calibre when you connect your device by usb.

message 344: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda Is calibre free? I've never used it, is it basically an ebook management?

message 345: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I have Calibre but I don't really use it. I'd have to import everything. I keep telling myself I need to.

message 346: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6113 comments to get your Kindle books added to the My Books page above, all you need to do is have your GoodReads and Amazon Account linked and then go to the My Books page and click on

Add your Amazon books to Goodreads! View your book purchases and easily select what to rate and shelve.

and add them - I do that every time I buy a book on Amazon. And it doesn't differentiate between physical and Kindle books, as it wanted to add a Calendar and a Map that I purchased

message 347: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda That sounds pretty good, but I'm worried it would mess up my shelves as they are now

message 348: by CBRetriever (new)

I've spend a lot of time adding most of the ones I own to a separate shelf, so I think I'm not gonna risk it :)

It is free. It's really good software, I think. I use it mainly for categorizing and tracking what I have and which formats, as well as switching formats on unDRM'ed ebooks, but I believe that there's a whole lot more that you can do with it than what I use it for.
