message 2: by Matti (new)

Matti Karjalainen Arne Bellstorf isn't a woman. :)

message 3: by Julie (new)

Julie Capote in Kansas was written by a man. Removed.

message 4: by Yuliya (new)

Yuliya Saga wasn't written by a woman :/

message 5: by Empress (new)

Empress #130 Beautiful Darkness isn't either

message 6: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Joann Sfar is also not a woman. :)

message 7: by Allie (new)

Allie faelinwolf wrote: "Joann Sfar is also not a woman. :)"

I noticed that too and removed them from the list.

message 8: by Allie (new)

Allie I removed Maira Kalman: various illuminations because it's not a graphic novel. And Persepolis 1-4 because of the first volume only rule.

message 9: by Allie (new)

Allie Miri wrote: "Saga is still on the list, and Cory Doctorow's also not a woman, #370."

I left those on for now because Saga is by Vaughn and Fiona Staples and In real Life is by Doctorow and Jen Wang. It's not necessarily clear cut and I didn't make the list. Better to err on the side of leaving them on, I think.

message 10: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Allie wrote: "Miri wrote: "Saga is still on the list, and Cory Doctorow's also not a woman, #370."

I read In Real Life and hadn't even realized Cory Doctorow wasn't a woman! I only knew the artist Jen Wang.

message 11: by Viet (new)

Viet Vu Fabien Vehlmann is not a woman.

message 12: by Kenys (new)

Kenys Viet wrote: "Fabien Vehlmann is not a woman."

While the writer of Beautiful Darkness, Fabien Vehlmann, is male one of the book's two illustrators is a female, Marie Pommepuy.

message 13: by Peterh (new)

Peterh Cory Doctorow is not a woman.

message 14: by Allie (new)

Allie Peterh wrote: "Cory Doctorow is not a woman."

Read the comments above.

message 15: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Etienne Davodeau is not a woman.

message 16: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Nor is Andi Watson.

message 17: by Allie (new)

Allie Johanna wrote: "Etienne Davodeau is not a woman. Nor is Andi Watson."

Removed both from the list. Thanks!

message 18: by Robin (new)

Robin Fumio Obata isn't a woman, either. Good female character in the book, though.

message 19: by Allie (new)

Allie Robin wrote: "Fumio Obata isn't a woman, either. Good female character in the book, though."

Removed Just So Happens. I think that was the only title on the list?

message 20: by Allie (last edited Jun 23, 2016 08:14PM) (new)

message 21: by Miri (new)

Miri Gifford I added Rat Queens volume three because it's the only volume in the series that had a female artist—does that fit with your theme?

message 22: by Allie (new)

Allie Miri wrote: "I added Rat Queens volume three because it's the only volume in the series that had a female artist—does that fit with your theme?"

I would think so! I think the first-in-series thing only applies where it's a female writer/artist from the get go so the list doesn't get cluttered with every volume ever of ongoing series.

message 23: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Falzo Never realized Black Butler was written by a woman! Cool!

message 24: by Joy (new)

Joy Fiona Staples' illustrations are what makes Saga so awesome. Def leave Saga as part of the list.

message 25: by Holly (new)

Holly K. Pretty sure John Allison is not a woman!

message 26: by Allie (new)

Allie Holly wrote: "Pretty sure John Allison is not a woman!"

But Lissa Treiman (the illustrator) and Whitney Cogar (the colorist) are.

message 27: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Wouldn't it be easier to change the title of the list to "Comics & Graphic Novels Written or Illustrated by Women"?

message 28: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart Removed multiple second/third/fourth, etc. volumes where the first was written by a woman and already on the list.

message 29: by Hanneleele (new)

Hanneleele I added Scarlet Witch vol 2 by the same principle as mentioned before - the writer is a man, but all four illustrators are women. But I also think this should then be mentioned in the list information, or then all men authors be removed- it's a bit confusing, especially since in list form you only see first author, not illustrators.

message 30: by Xanat (new)

Xanat The artist is just as important as the author- so I don't think it's confusing at all! I love this list, thank you for creating it.

It would be helpful if people noted this in their comments, but whatever.

Just cleared the duplicates through page 5.

message 32: by Melissa (new)

Melissa As much as I love "American Born Chinese," the creator, Gene Leun Yang is not a woman. TY!

message 33: by Melissa (last edited Mar 09, 2019 05:39AM) (new)

Melissa Question for List Beasties. Is there any way to search a list?

I like to add titles but on long lists I am not always confident about adding titles or authors for fear that I have simply missed them when scrolling through.

I look forward to adding new titles as I discover them!

Of course! It's very offensive! It erases the authors gender identity and the identity of all transgender and/or non-binary people.

At the time the list was created Stevenson did identify as a woman. I agree that having NS on this list is no longer appropriate. I created a sibling list to this one, Comics & Graphic Novels by Trans, Non-binary, Genderqueer Folx, for the wealth of great books created by those talented folks.
