How's the kindle going Nick?

message 203: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm 13 ahead at the moment, but when summer gets here I will probably slow down a bit, as I will have lot's on.

Have you read Pat Barker's Regeneration Trilogy? Among the best books I have ever read.....

message 209: by Susan (new)

Susan Dalia....Yes, I read them several years ago....I agree, they were unforgettable. I often recommend them to people.

Well if you are maybe ready for something a bit more low brow there is the Russian vampire/magician trilogy by Sergei Lukyanenko
The Night Watch (Watch, #1) by Sergei Lukyanenko they were much better than the Twilight drivel but same ideas.....

message 211: by Susan (new)

Susan Apart from a couple of Anne Rice books, this is not something that has interested me, but maybe they would be a welcome change!
They certainly seem to have some decent reviews.

Helen | 3465 comments I had an email from Waterstones today that wouldn't open properly, said something about a new reading group. Any one know anything?

I got that one too but only glanced at the email. Thought I still have it in my inbox but I have deleted it!

Nick 2E0NAQ (nick196742) | 630 comments I found out today in my english class that I have passed the first half of my C&G entry level 3. My tutor is letting me do the exam in two half so I can take my time and feel more relaxed.
Not being big headed but I got all the question right hehe!

message 217: by Susan (new)

Susan Nick, that's brilliant. Well done!

message 218: by Weenie (new)

Weenie Helen wrote:"Does anyone else have a target?"

Mine's currently 34, tempted to increase it to 40 as I'm 5+ at the moment but I may end up reading some more 'fantasy bricks' as Ian calls them!

Biggest book so far was over 800 pages (Traitors' Gate) and I read a couple of Robert Jordan books which were both over 700 pages each.

If I hit 25 by the end of the month, then I'll increase my target!

I set an early target of 36. An achievable 3 a month, including some biggies (I am in awe of you guys who can read into the 100's...).

Then a bit of long term illness & am 5 ahead! May increase - but having found Edward Rutherfurd & acquired some more his tomes...maybe not! Each one is at least a trilogy in every volume surely... :)

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments My target is at 150 - all books I have never read before but may need to re-think the target as I am so far ahead. I have re-read (audio) about 8, not included in the target, mostly when I am doing housework and driving to work in the car.

Nick 2E0NAQ (nick196742) | 630 comments Sorry that I have not been very active in the group for some time it is because we have had a bit of bad news my mum’s cousin has been very ill and she sadly died on Sunday. I have found it had I thought she was going to get better but she did not but now she is at peace. I did leave the group because I just didn’t want to do any reading and I got fed-up with everything around me but I have been chatting to Lynne and she has helped me to feel better and I am pleased to say that I have rejoined the group too.

Sorry!
(thanks Lynne xxxx)

Sorry to hear that Nick, but really glad you are feeling a bit better. Books can often be a great way to escape, but appreciate that sometimes it can be hard to be bothered. Keep on posting mate, I enjoy your contributions and sense of humour.

I have tuns of friends in the group but find it hard to chat to them by typing in GR. I find it easier in msn or yahoo messager hope that makes sents? Sorry if it dont.

message 238: by Susan (last edited Aug 03, 2011 09:23PM) (new)

Susan It makes perfect sense, Nick, you can have a better 'chat' that way, and it's more personal.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Nick, You have made me blush! All part of the service! and I know I pull your leg a bit but you are a great friend. Enjoy you weekend away!

We had a warning text message through from work about this today, so they are concerned for our nurses safety in the cities during this time.
