Yeah I don’t buy the hardcover either. Tor seems to be releasing some of their books in hardcover only over here. The new Murderbot was hardcover only too. And at the prices I can wait or find another way to read them. Even new release paperbacks are $32 in the bookstores. Unless I really want to read a book and it’s one of my must buy authors I wait 12 months for the mass release paperback.

Oh that's exciting. I've really liked the premise on a lot of her YA stuff, but I find it hard to get into YA the last few years.
Very expensive Michelle. Even the smaller mass produced paperbacks are $22 in the bookstore. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you can pick up new releases in the Department stores (Target, Kmart and Big W) for half that price ($16 for new releases and $12 for mass produced ones) but not all the publishers release their books through there. You can pick up most YA SFF releases there but not adult. There’s one I want that’s released tomorrow. It’s by Sophie Green. Thursday’s at the Orange Blossom something or other. I loved her last two. The Fairvale Ladies Book Club and The Shelley Beach Ladies Swimming Club (or something like that). Lovely books. Not SFF but they have beautiful relationships between women from different walks of life. Anyhoo...hopefully I can pick it up for $16 soon. Don’t want to pay $32 for it.
its why if i ever buy a paper book veresion i order it from AMazon, it is usually a bit cheaper there than a book shop.
My current most anticipated reads are T.J. Klune's next pro published book Under the Whispering Door, and Iron Widow by new author Xiran Jay Zhao, who I was first introduced to through their YouTube cultural critique of Disney's Mulan.
The price of books are crazy right now. They were already inflated before. I was gonna by Claimed by J.R. Ward today but it was way expensive even at walmart with over 20% off. It was also that annoying tall massmarket and the cover is not that good. I'm gonna hunt down a ebook copy on sale or even barrow the audio from a friend.
Inhibitor Phase will be out soon :) Inhibitors, pattern jugglers,.... I'm liking the look of it. I somehow couldn't get through the Revenger trilogy. Got bogged after one book. But maybe this one will be more the kind of Reynolds I used to enjoy. Here's hoping. Reynolds has also announced a new standalone for 2022, Eversion. First contact, a big dumb (or not so dumb) object, but weird.... I'm intrigued.

Jan wrote: "Inhibitor Phase will be out soon :) Inhibitors, pattern jugglers,.... I'm liking the look of it. ..."I'm looking forward to Inhibitor Phase as well. Looking back at the core Revelation Space trilogy I can't decide if I never finished it or if it's been so long that I don't remember details in the later books. Either probably works as an argument for me (re)reading the books in advance of the release of Inhibitor Phase.
I learned yesterday that Tasmyn Muir's "The Locked Tomb" trilogy has become a quadrology. Nona the Ninth will come out in autumn of 2022 (and will certainly not be delayed. mm-hm), and Alecto the Ninth sometime in 2023.
The new edition of Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia will drop on September 7th and I'm very excited! I like her writing so far and I'm always searching for good urban fantasy/vampire stories without your generic UF romance as the main plotline.
Jade Legacy's release date is solid enough that it is included in today's email from Orbit: November 30.
The Quantum Curators and the Missing Codex has just released - 3rd book in the series - and really looking forward to reading it. Have decided to re-read the first two books first. Very stylishly written parallel worlds series where Earth is one of many beta worlds visited by treasure rescuing teams (the Quantum Curators) from the alpha Earth. It is an adventure story but it is also a comment on our society, how else things could have developed and as the series progresses it is also a comment on the alpha society that the author has created. Very nicely done and witty - especially the opening of the first book with the Lady in the Lake and Excalibur.
Kuunpäivän kirjeet (The Moonday Letters) by Emmi Itäranta is finally coming out in English! There's no pub date yet, but I'm assuming that Itäranta wrote this in English simultaneously with the Finnish edition, as that's her process, so there won't be a translation round, and maybe it'll be out sooner rather than later?I loved it, read it twice already, there's an English blurb behind the link:

I've been eagerly awaiting SO MANY titles in series I've loved. It's torture I swear. I'm most excited for:
- The War of Two Queens by Jennifer L. Armentrout
- Death by Laura Thalassa
- The Becoming byNora Roberts
- A Touch of Chaos & A Game of Retribution by Scarlett St. Clair
I just learned that the third Skyward book is already scheduled for this November: CytonicI'm so happy about that :D - DOOOOOOMSLUG!

Doomslug! 🥰
I'm looking forward to A Snake Falls to Earth by Darcie Little Badger. I was quite impressed with Elatsoe (her first book) when I read it with the Amazin' Eights challenge group earlier this year. I'd like to see what she does with A Snake Falls to Earth. It's encouraging that it's already been nominated for a National Book Award ("Young People’s Literature") - although that does seem like time travel for a book that's not out until November.
This month the graduate cones out and I can not wait! Also, under the whispering door and both of these are must reads for me. I'm soooo excited :) anyone else?
I got a little bit of an energy boost from the T. Kingfisher pub news (Paladin's Hope), so here's another one I've been meaning to mention for months:Scales and Sensibility by Stephanie Burgis is out next week, I'm pretty sure it'll work for the Teacup Magic crowd, and any fantasy/dragon loving Jane Austen fans.
I really hope I get my eye-reading magic back soon, I need to read these immediately when they drop!
Stephanie wrote: "This month the graduate cones out and I can not wait! Also, under the whispering door and both of these are must reads for me. I'm soooo excited :) anyone else?"I'm reading and enjoying Under the Whispering Door. It's more emotionally intense than The House in the Cerulean Sea (not surprising given the subject) but still has the quirky writing style and great characters that I enjoy so much from T.J. Klune.
Speaking of Teacup Magic, the next novella is going to be Patreon only for a year. I'm all for authors rewarding their patrons with early access and bonus short stories, etc. but a year feels like too much. I'm not super into being forced to become a patron, even if that'd mean I'd pay less for the book if I dropped it after one month. I've been mulling this over for a couple of days and I really don't know what to do. I want to buy it and read it, but I don't want to do one month of Patreon just to get it, it'd feel weird and wrong and idk. It's coming out in about a month, so I have time to decide, but I really don't like any of the options.
Some of my favourite authors seem to be going the way of Patreons. Not a fan. I get that they don’t get much money out of their books really (especially if there are 99c Kindle deals) but the ones I like I already buy their books on release day for inflated Australian prices. Anyhoo…..I’m still sitting here waiting for Aurora’s End. Once it gets closer to release I’m going to finally read Aurora Burning.
Anna wrote: "Speaking of Teacup Magic, the next novella is going to be Patreon only for a year. ..."This is quite a contrast to Ursula Vernon: "I am happy to put that money toward mulch."
I still have the third Teacup Magic novella left to read so I can wait for the fourth one. Not happily. That seems a bit punitive. I'm seeing similar things in other Patreons that I support. Sigh.
I don't really want to get too deep into Patreon or supporting authors in this thread, if anyone wants to talk about it, a new thread in the Members' Chat folder, please! But in short, I agree Raucous. I support Ursula on Patreon, which means I get her books for "free", but I still buy them, and I know most of her supporters do. Being forced into becoming a Patreon supporter isn't exactly the way to gain my undying admiration.
Agree Anna. A couple of my favs have them and I haven’t jumped down that rabbit hole. Probably won’t. They’re on my “buy the book even though it’s a $33 new release” list so the publishing company is already getting a big chunk of my book money.
Anna wrote: "A third Goblin Empreror book!!!The Grief of Stones
!!!"
I haven't got the second one yet!
Empreror? :D Wow, I was really excited :DLora, the second one was very different, but it has a similar feel. I described it as what a cozy mystery should be like, but unfortunately isn't. Heaps of deaths that make you feel nice :)
There's apparently a third Chequy Files (The Rook, Stiletto) book coming out - Take Flight - but probably not until next year.
Just nabbed a copy of The Lincoln Highway. I have loved everything I've read by Amor Towles so I'm really looking forward to this.
Jeremy wrote: "There's apparently a third Chequy Files (The Rook, Stiletto) book coming out - Take Flight - but probably not until next year."that one I'm interested in
Saga will finally continue in January! I immediately started sobbing because I remembered the last volume 😭https://imagecomics.com/press-release...
Following the deadtree version delay, Leviathan Falls e-book release is also postponed, now November 30 :(
The Moonday Letters by Emmi Itäranta has a cover and a pub date! This is the UK release, no idea about the US. Read an excerpt in English here: https://www.scifinow.co.uk/books/the-...
I said in early 2019 that I was looking forward to the next book in Jasper Fforde's The Last Dragonslayer series. I discovered last night that it was published in the UK in September and so now we have a title: The Great Troll War. It's scheduled for publication in the US in May 2022 but, oddly, the Kindle version is already available in the US. I don't recall ever seeing that before.I hope that he's got a good "what came before" summary at the start of The Great Troll War. It's been 8 years since the previous book in the series was released.
Despite the extreme and extended cliffhanger delay I'm glad to see that he's writing more and getting back to some of these old projects.
Raucous wrote: "I said in early 2019 that I was looking forward to the next book in Jasper Fforde's The Last Dragonslayer series. Heaven Official's Blessing: Tian Guan Ci Fu (Novel) Vol. 1, which official translation will be released tomorrow on Kindle.
Along with Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Zu Shi (Novel) Vol. 1 and The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System: Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong (Novel) Vol. 1! Amazon says my tree books should be here tomorrow. So excite! I will probably end up buying the Kindle books as well.
I've ordered all three as well, through an independent online store, so it might take a little more time for them to get to me. I've seen the animation of TGCF, and the first episode of MDZS, and know little or nothing about RZFZX.
