Crumb | 395 comments I think I'm going to be reading an ARC that I will be getting called, Tell Me Lies by Carola Lovering

Tell Me Lies is a Fleetwood Mac song.

message 159: by willaful (new)

willaful I realized after reading A Lot Like Christmas: Stories that it worked for this. Also, it includes a list of book recs, so I can probably find something for that prompt too.

Jess (seejessread) | 248 comments I read
Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella

There are many songs called Can You Keep a Secret?
The Cab, Brother Beyond and even a Barbie movie has a song with this title/lyrics.
Completed 1/28/18

message 162: by Krissy (new)

Krissy | 16 comments I love True Crime, so I'm gonna just keep going down that road, with Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi for my song lyric book!

message 163: by Randi (new)

Randi Robinson (wvteddy) Two Little Girls in Blue by Mary Higgins Clark Written by Charles Graham in 1893. Recorded by the group Flowers and Frolic with June Tabor singing in 1976. I had to look that one up. I had no idea it was a song but pone of the characters kept singing it in the book

message 164: by Cendaquenta (new)

Cendaquenta | 718 comments Would a poem count? The Robert Burns poem "To a Mouse" contains the lines

The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft agley,

which the title of Of Mice and Men was taken from.

message 165: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 395 comments Would it be okay to use the book Blood Sisters by Jane CorryI found a few songs that have the lyric "blood sister" , the song "Rebel Girl" by the band Bikini kill has a lyric "a sister, always soul sister, blood sister

Would that be OK?

message 166: by Lene (new)

Lene I found that A Court of Thorns and Roses fits this prompt because of "Thorns and Roses" by Syntax - which is a pretty good song too!

message 167: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessicacaniglia) | 39 comments Keep Me Posted by Lisa Beazley is what I used for mine.

message 168: by VanesGirl (new)

VanesGirl | 92 comments I use Summertime by Vanessa Lafaye.

Summertime is a song by Billie Holiday from 1936

I'm with you on this one @Christophe. Just got a book from the library "Kind of Blue" - I'm a huge Miles Davis fan - unfortunately no lyrics in most of his stuff...

message 172: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 18 comments Keeping it simple "Paradise" by Toni Morrison - how many songs use that word in their lyrics? I can name a few...

message 173: by Allie (new)

Allie | 56 comments For those of you out there like me who are struggling with this prompt, lyrics.com has a feature that locates song lyrics for you. For example, I just started typing some of the book titles on my TBR list into the search box and it would tell me if there are any lyrics out there that match. It's kind of reverse engineering the prompt but it worked for me!!

message 174: by Cornerofmadness (new)

Cornerofmadness | 811 comments I ended up reading Night Shift by Charlaine Harris for this (from the Commodore song of the same name). Also there is a Stephen King version of Night Shift if that's more your style.

message 175: by Call Me Shivi (new)

Call Me Shivi | 4 comments I’m doing A Court of Thorns and Roses for the song By Poison/Miley Cyrus ‘ Every Rose Has it’s Thorn’

message 176: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherbowman) | 907 comments I found a few books that would fit this prompt. I don't think they've been mentioned in this thread yet.

Lucy in the Sky (Beatles)
Johnny Be Good (Chuck Berry)
Baby Be Mine (Michael Jackson)
Chasing Daisy (Willis)
Pictures of Lily (The Who)

These are all by Paige Toon. She seems to like using song titles/lyrics with names in them, so she might have more. These are the ones I recognized. They're chick lit/romance. I'm reading Lucy in the Sky for this prompt because I need some lighter fare than what I have been reading.

message 177: by AF (last edited Feb 16, 2018 08:29AM) (new)

AF (slothlikeaf) | 398 comments I got Carry On by Rainbow Rowell from the library. I was planning on using for the lgbq+ prompt, but every time I see the cover I starting singing, "Carry on Wayward Son...." (by Kansas) so I think I'll switch to this prompt.

message 178: by Christina (new)

Christina (crissytina) | 83 comments I will be starting Ragdoll tonight for this one, lyrics from the song Ragdoll by Aerosmith.

message 179: by Juliebean (new)

Juliebean (juliebean512) | 145 comments I'm going to do Emerald Green. There's a song called "Cold as Stone" by a-ha:

Emerald green neon lights above
Sapphire red falls on you below
Cold as stone

And since I stupidly started a trilogy for my Time Travel prompt, now Ruby Red for time travel, Sapphire Blue as my favorite color. and Emerald Green for "next book in a series".

message 180: by Juliebean (new)

Juliebean (juliebean512) | 145 comments There's a book on sale right now called The Satanic Mechanic which is a line from The Rocky Horror Picture show (Sweet Transvestite) and now, even though I said what I was doing above, I may have to do this one instead!

message 181: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne  (rkmorita) | 41 comments I found a few more to add to the list;

Don’t Speak- No Doubt/ J. L. Brown
Take a Bow- Rihanna/ Elizabeth Eulberg
Nothing Else Matters- Metallica/ by either Leslie DuBois or Sara Boyd.

Even if I am reading “Don’t speak” this has turned into a fun prompt to find song titles & the books they turn out to be.

message 182: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn (jayinbee) | 22 comments I read Good as Gone for this one. It fits some other categories though so I may have to move it around if I find another to fill this one later.

message 183: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellecarl) | 14 comments Almost Like Being in Love is one of my favorite books (and it would also fit for the LGBTQ+ category). The title comes from a song that was originally written for the musical Brigadoon, which is significant in the novel.

For the contemporary romance crowd, Erin McCarthy has a series about musicians where the titles are all from Pat Benatar's song Heartbreaker- Heart Breaker, Dream Maker, Love Taker.

message 184: by Maja (new)

Maja Todorovska | 1 comments I wonder if "Forever and Always, Lara Jean" by Jenny Han counts? There are several songs by Shania Twain, Taylor Swift and Parachute with the same name.

message 185: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Lanton (ruthla8) | 177 comments Cate wrote: "Breakfast at Tiffany's would count, right?"

Definitely! And now I have that song stuck in my head!

message 186: by Cindy (last edited Feb 26, 2018 03:19PM) (new)

Cindy I am thinking of reading The Gambler by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. It is also a song by Kenny Rodgers. I have that song stuck in my head now. On a train bound from nowhere, I met up with a gambler.

message 187: by Teri (new)

Teri (teria) | 1554 comments I finished reading Only Child, a new novel. I was going to put it in the category of a book published in 2018, when it occurred to me that there had to be a song called "Only Child." I found three, most notably one by Jackson Browne. I highly recommend the book as long as you can handle the subject matter, which is about a 6-year-old boy's narration of a school shooting and aftermath.

message 188: by Linda (new)

Linda Hanson | 24 comments Well, thanks Cindy. Now I do too. We were both too tired to sleep...

message 189: by Nadine in NY (new)

Nadine in NY Jones | 9718 comments Mod
A GR friend just read a book that would work for "song lyrics": Animals Strike Curious Poses - it's a book of essays, sounded interesting, and the title is a lyric in Prince's "When Doves Cry"

message 190: by Tania (new)

Tania | 678 comments A few I've read recently that qualify for this prompt:

When I'm Gone by Emily Bleeker, in the lyrics for the Cups song by Anna Kendrick

Where I Belong: A Brook Haven Romance Novella by Charlene Bright, from the song Where I Belong by Building 429

Blood on the Tracks by Barbara Nickless, from the song Blood on the Tracks by The Redemption Song, or from the album Blood on the Tracks by Bob Dylan

Andragel | 5 comments Would Heartless work, if it is a one word title?

message 192: by Christina (new)

Christina (crissytina) | 83 comments Andragel wrote: "Would Heartless work, if it is a one word title?"

It does, there are a couple songs with "heartless" in the lyrics, two of which are also titled Heartless (one by Kanye West and one by the Fray). :)

message 193: by Serendipity (new)

Serendipity | 146 comments Eleanor Rigby . The Beatles obviously.

message 194: by Sara Grace (new)

Sara Grace (bassoonsara) | 124 comments Came across:Baby, I'm Howling for You

It is also a lyric for "I'm Howlin' for You" by The Black Keys from the album "Brothers" and the lyrics do say: "baby I'm howlin' for you"

message 195: by Natalie (last edited Mar 27, 2018 07:49AM) (new)

Natalie (oboe_reader) | 5 comments For non-fiction readers, the title of a book on life in North Korea "Nothing to Envy" is from a North Korean patriotic song. Well worth the read and was pleasantly surprised to discover it fulfilled this prompt.

message 196: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 51 comments Someone suggested "Go Tell It On The Mountain" so I just started it. I'm really enjoying it so far.

message 197: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 395 comments There are several songs that have the lyric "loves me not or he loves me not". I'd like to read a book entitled Love Me Not by M.J. Arlidge. Do you all think that would be OK?

message 198: by Kim (new)

Kim | 215 comments Forgive me if someone has already mentioned this one, but I just saw it in the suggested reading list on Overdrive: Every Breath You Take, by Mary Higgins Clark. I can't help but sing the song when I read that title!

message 199: by Kym (new)

Kym Hamer (kymhamer) | 157 comments I've got Freedom (song by the late George Michael) by Jonathan Franzen down for this prompt..
