Kim Williamson | 50 comments I'm reading MASH for this one. I started it last year but a bunch of books came in at the same time from the overdrive and this one got lost in the shuffle.

I was considering re-reading that for this prompt, but I have too many TBR books to go reading something a second time!

I love the film and seem to remember this being one of the few times where the film is actually better than the book. But I read it so long ago, and have seen people say such good things about it since, that I wonder if I'm remembering it wrong. I'll be interested to see what you think.

I'm looking forward to reading it! I watched the film again last year so it's reasonably fresh in my mind.

message 105: by Lin (new)

Lin (gramatumaja) | 43 comments I am going with the Running Man (S.King). That was my first action movie ever and till recently I even didn't know it was based on a King's book. Daahh me..
I guess everyone has seen so many S.Holmes, Mrs.Marple and Poirot films.

Kate Bowman | 5 comments I'm going to read The Cider House Rules, I saw the movie years ago, but haven't read the book.

Samantha Trillium (Just Reading in the Rain)☂ (trillium25) | 4 comments I've narrowed my choices down to:

message 111: by Richelle (last edited Dec 31, 2017 02:04AM) (new)

Richelle | 28 comments I have chosen The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. This movie made me cry, so I assume the book will too. But I thought I would give it a go.

message 112: by Pia (new)

Pia (merenhenki) I'll read Murder in the Orient Express for this one. Just saw the new movie (which was great!) so know I'll read some Agatha Christie.

If anyone is watching The Mountain Between Us, definitely read the book! It's amazing.

message 113: by Emanuel (new)

Emanuel | 253 comments I watched first to die, because I want to read the book 1st to Die

message 114: by [deleted user] (new)

Ohw help, the first prompt and already so many possible books!! I think that I'll be going with The Maze Runner though, I really liked the movie and I'm feeling like reading something not to heavy at the moment + my sister has the entire series in paperback which I can borrow!!

message 115: by Marjorie (new)

Marjorie (marjorielstr) | 20 comments I think I am going to read The Color Purple. My dd just finished it for one of her college lit classes so we have a copy :-)

Anshita (_book_freak) | 267 comments Richelle wrote: "I have chosen The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. This movie made me cry, so I assume the book will too. But I thought I would give it a go."

I read the book last year and it is gripping from the first chapter. I hope you enjoy reading it.

message 117: by Anshita (new)

Anshita (_book_freak) | 267 comments I picked three books for this prompt:
1. The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal by Ben Mezrich.
2. Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw.
3. Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl.
I reached the decision to read The Accidental Billionaires since I love The Social Network so much.

message 118: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 3 comments I’m choosing My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult

message 119: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Butcher (elizabethbutcher) | 7 comments I'm going to read And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I haven't read it since I was in grade school and I have recently watched 3 different film/TV versions of the story.

message 120: by Bigsna (new)

Bigsna (binny) The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum - I've seen the movie but forgotten all the 'good stuff'details. Also, i've always wanted to read the Bourne series because of how famous they are!

message 121: by Alaina (new)

Alaina Martin (alainarose) Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is what I’m going to start the year off with! 5is movie was actually pretty decent, but it made me want to see how different the book is.

message 122: by Jill (new)

Jill | 84 comments I am going to read Schindler's List for this prompt.

message 123: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie Leighton | 1 comments I am choosing the book The Painted Veil. The movie is unforgettable.

message 125: by Sabrina (last edited Jan 01, 2018 03:16PM) (new)

Sabrina | 2 comments I'm reading Bridget Jones's Diary !

message 126: by Kat (new)

Kat Turner | 1 comments After careful consideration, I think I've decided on GIRL, INTERRUPTED.

message 127: by Emma (new)

Emma | 96 comments I’m finding this one difficult as I don’t watch many films, and if I plan to watch something that I know was a book I tend to read the book first. Fairly often if they make a film of a favourite book I won’t watch it as I’m so often disappointed. I don’t particularly want to reread something I’ve already read and seen the film, though I have been planning a reread of The House of the Spirits for a while and I have seen that film way back when.

Otherwise I’m going to try and think back over the films I’ve seen recently (not many) and see if any were books I’ve not yet read.

message 128: by Mary (new)

Mary For those of us who watched movies when they were $5.00...
Out of Africa
The Remains of the Day
Sophie's Choice
A Room with a View
Babette's Feast

Stephanie ((Strazzybooks)) (strazzybooks) | 2 comments Ones I have read and really enjoyed: The Help, Matilda (or any Dahl), The Book Thief, Wonder, The Shining, The Princess Bride, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, .

I think I'll go with Jurassic Park!

message 130: by Melinda (new)

Melinda | 54 comments The Maltese Falcon and others featuring Tommy and TuppenceAnd their dog, Asta- Dashiell Hammett
Anything by James M. Cain

message 131: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 3 comments Starting now with My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

message 132: by Laura (last edited Jan 03, 2018 09:54PM) (new)

Laura Sullivan | 19 comments I don't think it's been mentioned here yet but I've been leaning towards It.

I haven't decided though! It's so hard. I am also thinking:
The Phantom of the Opera
The Other Boleyn Girl
No Country for Old Men
Scarface
The Zookeeper's Wife
One Shot (Jack Reacher)
Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner (Million Dollar Baby)
The Silence of the Lambs

Tommy & Tuppence are Agatha Christie. Nick & Nora Charles and Asta are in The Thin Man by Hammett. I'm quite fond of both couples.

I also really enjoyed Jurassic Park!

message 134: by Marci (new)

Marci Duhon (marcisbookmark) | 1 comments I chose A Clockwork Orange for this and I’m sooo thankful I did! It shows a completely different side of the story.

message 135: by Simant (new)

Simant Verma (allthatissim) | 72 comments Is Wonder Woman: Warbringer valid for this category? I have already seen the movie but I am not sure if the book is related to it or is totally different one.

message 136: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I don’t know a lot about it but there is some good alliteration in the title if you want to read it and aren’t sure

message 137: by Ayla (new)

Ayla Im thinking of reading American Assassin for this one. I've seen the movie and really enjoyed it, but I heard that the book is very different.
Im not a big reader of action/spy novels, so this will be a new genre for me.

message 138: by Alice (new)

Alice | 21 comments I usually try to read the book before I see the movie but I've got a couple of ideas for this one.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
Atonement

Alaina Martin (alainarose) Alice wrote: "I usually try to read the book before I see the movie but I've got a couple of ideas for this one.

Miss Peregrine’s is the one I’m doing too! It’s also the first book I’m reading this’s year 😁

message 140: by Vikki (new)

Vikki Started my first reading challenge with The Princess Bride. I love the film and have seen it many times!

message 141: by Tania (new)

Tania | 678 comments I chose to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by JK Rowling - I've seen all the movies but never read any of the books until now. Definitely planning to read the whole series.

message 142: by Nancy (new)

Nancy | 12 comments I had three books in mind: Captain Blood by Rafaele Sabatini, The Razor's Edge by M. Somerset Maugham, and The Four Feathers by by A. E. W. Mason. I loved all three movies but only The Four Feathers had two movies and each movie was very different from the other so I chose that book. It is also my first read for the challenge. I am so glad I chose it because the book is very different from the movie and so far, better than either movie.

message 143: by Angela (new)

Angela Im going to read Prettyon Pink for this one. Loved the movie in my younger days 😊

message 144: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Heaney | 210 comments I’ve chosen to go with The Railway Man by Eric Lomax for this category

message 145: by B (new)

B | 3 comments What a great list of options from the group! Thanks to all! I believe I've settled on two (very different) books to start the year - The Devil Wears Prada, and True Grit. We'll see how the reading goes!

message 146: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (klhime) | 9 comments There are some really great suggestions here! I'll probably read Hidden Figures, since it's been staring at me from the shelf for months.

message 147: by Cendaquenta (new)

Cendaquenta | 718 comments I always make sure to read the book before the movie, so this prompt is going to be one of the more difficult of the bunch! :p
I'm going to either read Ross Poldark (although it was adapted into a BBC series, not a film) or Twelve Years a Slave. Perhaps I'll be able to get my hands on The Last Unicorn at some point this year, too.

message 148: by Mel (new)

Mel | 90 comments Since I'm one of those "usually reads the book before I see the movie" peeps, I was considering rereading Gone Girl or Confessions of a Shopaholic for this category. Then I realized I had never read Coraline, but had seen the movie a while back. It's always interesting seeing a movie adaptation first and then reading its originating material. So many differences! (Some good, some not so good.)

message 149: by Beth (new)

Beth | 4 comments Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly

message 150: by Chelle181 (new)

Chelle181 I have just finished Moulin Rouge by Pierre La Mure, picked because I thought I had seen the film. Of course there are a lot of films and novels about the Moulin Rouge, so the film I have seen (the Baz Luhrmann one) matches up very little with this book!
That said this book is very powerful, such emotive and descriptive language. I would recommend it, it is a tear jerker of love, loss, and the human condition. I gave it 5 stars.
I have decided to also read The Martian by Andy Weir for this prompt because why not?
Some great suggestions here like Hidden Figures, which I have not read but would like to, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which I have read many times over.
Apologies as I am on the app, which apparently can’t link books.
