Laura (piggyb73) | 36 comments I just read the never ending story. No, this was really two books put into one. The first book was really fun to read, the second one was so slow in there I say… Never ending

Nichelle | 58 comments Just finished reading my book for this prompt. I read The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game. Pretty good read if you are a football fan.

Kim (kmyers) | 108 comments Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (Paperback) by Patrick Süskind Perfume The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind

message 204: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 3 comments I think I am going to go with The Phantom of the Opera for this one, so I can check off two prompts. If I chose to count Phantom as my lyric only, I will probably Alias Grace even though it was a Netflix series. Alias Grace will also count as an "ugly" cover.

message 205: by Fiona (new)

Fiona (smurfatik) | 29 comments I am going to read The Martian but was also thinking about reading Carrie. I've seen the films but never read the books.

message 206: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm new to all this and finished my first book of the challenge thisweekend! The Maze Runner One down and 49 to go :)

message 207: by Anna (new)

Anna (annaholla) Fiona: The Martian would count for "set on another planet." Or if you want to use "title that's a character's name" from the 2017 list, you could slate "Carrie" in there.

Then you could read both!

(Apologies for lack of links. I'm on the app...)

message 208: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 51 comments I just finished reading "Lost Horizon" as I watched the movie several years ago. I'm using "The Martian" for a book set on a different planet.

message 209: by Kaitlyn (new)

message 210: by Erika (new)

Erika wickwire I read Holes by Louis Sachar because I was already reading it for another challenge. I love when I can read one book for 2 challenges. It doesn't always work out that way so it's exciting when it does

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments I just finished Big Fish for this one.

The film adaptation is a favourite of mine, and I’ve been meaning to read the book for ages. For me though...the film is better. The book is very touching and has some wonderful stories and imagery. The writing is lovely, and if I took each story as a stand-alone then there was a lot to like. But I felt it could have gone so much deeper into what made Edward Bloom do the things he did and live such a split life. I just wanted more, but what I got was a series of toe dips which were too disjointed to make me feel much. I was left wondering what was so special about this man, because to me he just came across as a crap husband, terrible father, and not all that wonderful at all, actually. But maybe that was the point - his son had built him into a mythical being, because the reality was just so mundane and disappointing.

message 212: by Kim (new)

Kim Erickson (madtroll) | 1 comments I loved the movie and was just as pleased with the book, A Man Called Ove

message 213: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (httpswwwoodreadscomlilybri) | 7 comments The Snowman by Jo Nesbo. Loved the book!

message 214: by Diane (new)

Diane Lupton | 136 comments I read Death Note, Vol. 1: Boredom for this prompt. For those of you that have seen the movie but haven't read the books, I highly recommend reading the books. They are nothing like the movie and are so much better.

message 215: by Lesley (new)

Lesley | 10 comments I am reading Silver Linings Playbook. Loved the movie and am loving the book!

message 217: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Adding yet another vote for Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. The book is amazing, even more so than the movie. If I hadn't already read it three times, I'd use it for this prompt.

Another rec for those who enjoy some dark in their films and books: Never Let Me Go.

message 218: by Leigh (new)

Leigh | 25 comments I choose to read Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg. I enjoyed the movie and really enjoyed the book.

message 219: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Phillips (debbie_phillips) Going to count Northanger Abbey as I am reading that for our family book club.... my daughter wanted to read and discuss books and her dad and I joined her. This was the first book she chose. Now I get to count it for my challenge too! Wonderful! I love Austen books and movies!

message 220: by Lesley (new)

Lesley | 10 comments I just finished "Catch me If You Can" by Frank W. Abagnale. It was pretty good. I used it for my True Crime book, but it could be used for either.

message 221: by Stephani (new)

Stephani Howell | 9 comments I chose The Time Traveler's Wife. I loved the movie because I love the actors. But now that I've read the book, I don't love it quite as much. The book was fantastic!

message 222: by Rachelnyc (new)

Rachelnyc | 186 comments Would it be cheating to read a book made into a TV show rather than a movie?

I have movie options but was also thinking about reading Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit

message 223: by Marianne (new)

Marianne | 64 comments I read Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race which I thought was a perfect read for Black History Month, But since March is Women's History Month, it's still good.

message 224: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (lexiekimball) Opinions, please. For some reason, I thought the prompt was "A book made into a movie or tv show you've already seen" so I watched Big Little Lies thinking I'd then read the book for this prompt. Am I cheating if I read the book and count it for this prompt anyway?

Just realized I asked the same question. I think I'm going for it. The point of the challenge is to be reading more, right? So as long as I'm reading I think I'm going for it.

message 226: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 395 comments For this category, I used the book The Magdalen Girls by V.S. Alexander. I saw the Magdalene Sisters a long time ago and thought that would be the perfect book to read for this prompt. Originally I thought I would use this book for the prompt "a novel based on a real person" but this novel is based on real events, not on one real person, specifically.

Great, I think I am as well! I think it fits the spirit of the prompt.

message 228: by Karen (new)

Karen | 127 comments I'm reading hidden figures for this prompt, and enjoying it, although it is very different and more historical than the movie.

Rachel | 9 comments Linda wrote: "I'm reading The Princess Bride for this challenge. I'm enjoying it so far."
I didnt realise this was a book - really liked the movie. I found it at the library today so will be reading it too!

I really like that film, I didn't know it was based on a book. Thanks for the heads up.

message 231: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline | 407 comments I finished reading Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman today. I’m intending on using it for this prompt.

I was worried that if I read it that it might ruin the movie for me because I really loved the movie. Thankfully it didn’t and I love the book now too. Can’t wait to read more from Alice Hoffman. The thing about not reading for so long is that you “discover” all of these great writers so many years after they started writing. Some have so many books published it’s overwhelming.

message 232: by Carol (new)

Carol Roote | 119 comments I read Different Seasons for this prompt, because The Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies. There were four stories in this book. Shawshank was really good as was The Body, which was made into the movie Stand By Me. I didn't enjoy the other two very much--Apt Pupil (also a movie) and Breathing Method.

message 233: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Williams | 5 comments I read The English Patient for this prompt.
I am still not sure of my thoughts after finishing the book. Definitely not one of the fast paced books I am used to reading.

message 234: by Serendipity (new)

Serendipity | 146 comments Twelve Years a Slave was at the top of my Movies to Watch list. So I watched it and then read the book.

message 235: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (tricia_nelson) Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer! The book and movie are a bit different but very good!

Jurassic Park
World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
The Princess Bride
OR
I, Robot"

I read Jurassic Park for this prompt and loved it. It's a lot more intellectual than the film, which I appreciated, but it's still fast-paced and exciting.
I haven't read the other options on your list, though.

message 238: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 387 comments World War Z is a fantastic set of audiobooks, and completely different from the movie.

The Princess Bride is incredible as a movie and as a book.

Sylvia Smith | 57 comments I will be reading CUJO. It is a TBR of mine. It’s a smaller book so I get on to my bigger ones.

Kimberly | 5 comments I’m really enjoying Gone Girl in the audiobook version.

message 246: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra | 36 comments If you're not a fan of reading the book after seeing the movie, you could go for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button . Short read to tick the prompt! :-)
