1. A book made into a movie you've already seen
Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race, finally found a spot this could fit in.
So I just recently learned that one of my all time favorite movies was based on a book. I have nine books written down as possibilities. If I can get my hands on a copy my number one choice is going to be The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. I still love that movie today.
What Dreams May Come is one of my all time favorite movies. I found out it was a book and attempted to read it. I couldn’t get through the first few pages. I guess I will attempt it again and see what happens
I'll probably read either Memoirs of a Geisha or Murder on the Orient Express since I already own both books. I haven't read them yet.
I've decided to count TV shows so I can finally read Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. I'm very excited!
Just be aware the new TV version of Dirk is very little like the one in the book. I like them both though.

A dear friend of mine couldn't get past the first 20 minutes of the show because it's set in Seattle and that's just NOT RIGHT. I'm generally very laid back about adaptations and differences between them, so I don't expect it to bother me, but it will be interesting.
Thank you to the person who suggested Michael Crichton!! I've only read his Jurassic Park but I love all the other movies based on his books. Thinking I'll go with one of those. Other suggestions I have that I haven't seen mentioned yet:The Ruins
Relic
The 5th Wave

I mean, Douglas Adams is known for all his adaptations being different. No two versions of Hitchhiker are alike, so it's unsurprising that Dirk Gently is also very different
Placeholder since I have to rush off to work:Twelve Years a Slave
Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race

The Hobbit has been at the top of my TBR list for awhile, I think this is my year to read it!
I finally attended a James Ellroy movie night last night. He provided commentary on the film version of L.A. Confidential, so I've seen it twice now and still not read the book. Hard to believe I first saw that film 20 years ago! I think I tried reading the book back then but couldn't get into the rhythm of Ellroy's writing style. Maybe it would work better if I listened to it on audio?
I just saw the movie "Arrival" and found the book that the Novella is in: Stories of Your Life and Others
Crumb wrote: "Krissy, that would be a great one!"I've been putting it off forever. It's about time I finally read it
The Del Toro film won't even air where I am until February, but I'm putting down The Shape of Water as a likely choice for this one.
Dawn wrote: "I just saw the movie "Arrival" and found the book that the Novella is in: Stories of Your Life and Others"Oh! I forgot about that one.
Genesis wrote: "I think I'm going to be readingFriday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream"
Be aware that the TV show and the book are NOTHING alike
Evelyn wrote: "I'm going to do the Count of Monte Cristo for this one."I read it this summer and loved it! But it's pretty long.
I’m going to do Jodi Picoult’s My Sisters Keeper. I saw the movie years ago when it was in theaters but didn’t realize it was a movie until it started. I’ve always wanted to go back and read it.
I think I’m going with A Christmas Carol for this one. I really don’t watch very many movies, so this isn’t an easy one for me.
I'm going with Big Fish, as a Tim Burton geek. Plus, it's a quick read which I could do with in amongst some of my other choices!
It's been a long time since I've read Interview with the Vampire so I'll probably go with that! Relive the book, and then go watch the movie again!
I just thought about The Zookeeper's wife.. wanted to throw that in as a suggestion for those who like historical novels.
My list is a bit short cause that’s a huge thing for me to avoid watching a film before reading a book. Here’s my list 1. Spectacular Now
2. Silver Linings Playbook
3. The Help
4. Devil Wears Prade

Shutter Island is really good. Definitely worth the read.
Like Water for ChocolateLove in Times of Cholera
The Chronicles of Narnia
A Christmas Carol
The Girl on the Train
I'm thinking of reading Hidden Figures, but I haven't seen the movie. Is it cheating if I put the book on my list, make sure to watch the movie first, and then read the book later in the year? Not sure how I feel about it, so I'm seeking opinions from the group :-)

I've changed my mind on this so many times.. but I think I've finally decided.. I'm going to read Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy
I think I might double dip this prompt with #33 (childhood classic you've never read). Usually, if there's a movie based on a book I want to read, I try to read the book first. I haven't completely made up my mind on this one though...Matilda
Black Beauty
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
The Neverending Story
Do you need to watch a film in order to read the book. I mean if I've seen a film already, can I just read the book or do I need to re-watch the film and then read the book? Many thanks
Fiona (Titch) wrote: "Do you need to watch a film in order to read the book. I mean if I've seen a film already, can I just read the book or do I need to re-watch the film and then read the book?"I don't think a re-watch is required, you can just go ahead and read.

I *adore* The Thin Man. I want to be Myrna Loy when I grow up. Since I've already read it, I would love to read My Man Godfrey, my other favorite William Powell movie.
