M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Feeling a lot better to be honest. The hormonal side of it has suddenly eased off and everything else has too. Or it might just be the relief of having a plan. 🤣🤣

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, eye test went well, no change in my eyesight, although I have ordered new glasses, as putting them in my pocket/handbag on a regular basis as they steam up with mask wearing has left them rather scratched! Agreed to let them just change the lenses and keep the frame, which means I don't have them for 10 days, luckily I only need them for light sensitivity and I have my darker lens for spare. Was chatting to the optician about my dry eyes, she told me to google for dry eyes and diet, apparently there are some oily foods I could take that might help, who'd have thought? And maybe increase how much I drink, as dehydration has an effect too. She also did a slit lamp exam (which is what the hospital use to check my iritis) and everything is clear, so glad I spent the extra £10 for the enhanced checks. Popped into Home Bargains after, I don't often get near one of those, and was horrified to see Valentines, Mothers Day and Easter stuff in store!! Didn't get everything I wanted with my money, I was after a new dressing gown, I'd seen one on M & S online, they didn't have the colour/size I wanted, but I got to feel one, and the review that said it was thin was right, I didn't feel it warranted the amount of money they were charging, so glad I hadn't ordered it online, will have to go to Asda Living when out on Fri and hope the Asda one I liked is better. Did have a little walk after, but aggravated my leg again. Was hoping to have an explore with friend today but leg wouldn't cope with that, so won't message her to remind her. Going to go to coffee shop shortly and have some food as well as a drink, as they decided not to open last week, and might just have a gentle stroll by myself as it isn't supposed to be dry again after today, so don't want to waste a nice day.

Glad you are feeling better MT, hope the ECG is clear.

Jim | 21809 comments I just don't buy clothes on line, Desley
There again I don't buy them in the real world much either :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments No, I'm not a fan of buying clothes or shoes online, I like to try things on. Not that I buy many these days

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Afternoon, my plan for today was to take books to a localish charity before the snow. It started as I set off, but I decided to go anyway, forgetting they are quite rural and the snow was a lot thicker there, but I made it - very grateful for a volunteer who saw me check the book box out and then let me drive to the barn to put my two boxes of books in, rather than doing two trips in the snow with them. Its now raining. Going out with friend this pm

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Sounds good Desley, enjoy.

It seems I have been banned from Facebook for saying 'I love you all and everything but you Americans are crazy.' I tipped off the mods on the group where it had happened in case they got any slack. The mod posted it with a screen shot of what I'd told her and, much to my amusement there's now a huge post on there from all the Americans in the group agreeing that they're crazy!

I think I can post in groups from next Monday. At least I have something funny to blog about this week!

It does worry me that so many people who used to be here have gone over to there though because sooner or later, I'm going to get banned completely. I just have no inkling that the things I get banned for are bad. The last one was for saying 'boys are gross!' on a post about my son's PE socks!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, first hair cut of the year this morning. Was going to a different retail park to go to Asda Living, but we've had snow overnight, with more forecast today (currently sounds more like hail than snow) and the motorway I need to use to get to it didn't look great on the pic I saw from this morning, so either need to wait and see if the weather is better tomorrow, or risk ordering it online. I was also going to take the bric a brac to the rescue Lucy is from, that is just going to be split between 3 local charities. Think I might treat myself to a hot drink in the local coffee shop on the way home from the hairdresser.

Bonkers when they allow all kinds of nastiness on there. Maybe it was picked up by a bot as being derogatory of people with a mental illness?

message 16260: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments On lockdown again. We have been asked to eschew ALL social gatherings until the end of the month, and only have some things outside (possible in California, but chilly lately).

This is the first time management has begged - they're telling us the reporting requirements (and we have 6 staff sick right now, no dining except delivery to the apartments) are onerous, and take time an energy away from other priorities.

The perils of living in a place with older people, I guess.

One of the residents had asked a small number of us to come out in the hall and bring a drink before dinner, but sent around a notice that they're canceling due to the memo. Sigh.

what really irritates me is that if Facebook blocks a post it says you can appeal, then when you click to appeal it tells you that you cannot because everybody is busy with covid!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, hairdresser managed to not have enough colour again, so I got a mixed up colour, it's really nice though. Popped in the coffee shop and got compliments from both the woman who runs it and the only customer, so that was nice. We didn't end up getting more snow and it was melting by the time I left the hairdresser, so went to the retail park and hit lucky, got the dressing gown I wanted and was good and ignored the candle sale. Even popped to Aldi on the way home, so don't need to go out today, which is good as we have heavy rain. Need to do some housework as friend is hoping to come round tomorrow, it's the only downside of relaxing so much, getting the inclination to do housework is hard. Love the little poem in my dressing gown https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

Oh dear MT, hope you don't get completely banned! Sorry to hear that Alicia, hope you aren't affected too badly

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments morning, had a rubbish night sleep, but at least I was able to go back to sleep after feeding the cats. Luckily I don't have much to do today. Back to work tomorrow, I am looking forward to it, 2 weeks is a bit too long to have off. I haven't done everything on my list, but I'm pleased I've learnt how to relax and how to read in the front room, that is more important. I am glad that I got all the charity stuff to charities, even if some didn't go to the one I wanted, it's nice to see parts of the front room that have had clutter on for most of last year - good job I took the books on Thu, they had to close to visitors on Fri due to the weather.

Also the appeal is clearly AI because it comes back supporting the original decision in seconds. Having read up on it. They are especially hot on anything that might be considered remotely derogatory about men or America. So there's a post abuse support group which has a hashtag all men are trash (which I don't like but they have it) they get banned all the time, but a post in a group for Trump supporters discussing a Huffington Post journalist in 'smash or pass' (basically the modern version of shag or kill) only got taken down when Huffington Post went public with it.

I'm on a group of SciFi fans and the funniest bit was that about fifty of them posted to say, 'we are crazy' Mwhahaharhgh. It's like the Amazon forums - nobody called Dick or Willy is able to sign their actual name - except instead of saying, 'you can't post that' the way the Amazon forums did, Facebook lets you post it and then ban you. I think there's something like five strikes a year and I'm on three until one drops off in June. Not looking good.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, a quiet first day back, but think everyone I spoke to has either had a cold, covid, or plans affected by someone getting Covid! Then ratty neighbour rang on the way home, she's been contacted by Track and Trace and done a test, to have a faint positive, so waiting for a confirmation PCR, so wanted to know if I'd be able to get her some stuff if she needed. It was funny at work, I haven't washed my hair yet, so it is straight, a few people noticed (admittedly 2 male colleagues stared at me a few mins while they worked out what was different), but no one noticed I wasn't wearing glasses, and some of the newer ones haven't seen me without them on.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Stay safe - this new variant we hadn't heard about at all not that long ago seems to be catching many people who escaped previous variants even without vaccines.

Hope your neighbor is okay - with estimates of 10-30% of even asymptomatic survivors getting long-covid, it is still worth the precautions to avoid getting it.

You're still 95% exactly the same as before (think the men), and that's good enough. Women will be wondering what the 5% means. :)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

How is everyone? I haven't been on in forever so thought I should pop in after class. I love online classes, so much better than having to drag myself out of the house at 8am. Although, I did do that but only to walk the dog so I hadn't even washed my face. Did I tell you guys we got a dog? A cockapoo, she's called Biscuit and my sister-in-law has a puppy from the same litter. it's lovely keeping them together, they have a really good bond and don't even bother to say hello when they meet, one of them charges at the other and takes them by surprise for play.

I hope everyone is keeping well and avoiding covid as best they can. I was working with a positive patient on Thursday night so I'm on test watch. Haven't done one yet today, I better go do that.

Halfway through my nursing degree now too!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Another quiet day, only day 2, but I have woken up before my alarm both days so far, strange when last week I was sleeping past it! Brain has clearly adjusted to work schedule quickly. Nice bright day, so did an errand at lunch, then went for a walk round the park after work.

So lovely to hear from you Jud, although I can't believe you dropped in that you have a dog, but didn't post a pic!! Fingers crossed that you don't get Covid.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, another quiet day at work, but then IT sorted something out late afternoon, so got a nice task to do tomorrow. However, the roofer finally came and had a look at the roof, gave me a quote that sounded reasonable, and said he could come tomorrow! Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, that was quite a good day actually, I had to learn something new this morning, wasn't sure I'd get chance before the workmen started, but it was really quick and easy. Workmen were late, but did a good job, and sent me before and after pics to prove what they'd done, which I appreciated. There was quite a lot of cracks in both the chimney and the cap, so no wonder I hear wind and rain, now kind of hoping for bad weather to see the difference! Went to Lidl after work with friend, we didn't get to do our weekly walk yesterday, so that was nice. I know it sounds bonkers being worried about what neighbour thinks about where car is parked, but she has a right bee in her bonnet about car parking spaces, and was a bit worried she'd do something to spite me, as I obviously hadn't explained myself.

Hey Jud! *waves*

I have spent most of the week waiting to see if I would be needed for jury service, having got a citation just before Christmas. The High Court sits in Edinburgh, but the jury now sits in an out-of -town cinema and watches the proceedings via screens. I wasn't picked in the daily ballot in the end, but I had to spend three days waiting to see if I was going to be. What a pish system, to use a technical term.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, started the day with a bit of a frustrating meeting. Day did get a bit better though. Glasses aren't ready for collecting till tomorrow, dislike going in our local town at the best of times, even worse on a Sat. Dropped off the Amazon deliveries that have arrived so far, will have one more to deliver next week. Then decided to go and get salt and pepper chips, from the Chinese I'm not keen on, but is in walking distance, got rainbow beancurd soup too, Lucy tried climbing on my knee to steal it! They were OK I will go back at some point to see what the salt and pepper tofu is like, but won't rush.

Yes, she is a bit, and has even shouted at people who don't live on our street for parking on it! I'd love to do jury service R, but can imagine waiting for 3 days to see if you are needed is frustrating.

An Uncle of mine had the same experience. Three days just waiting. But at the end of the day the clerk of the court came in and thanked them. She explained that several times during those three days the defendant and their lawyer had been asked how they were going to plead and when they pleaded 'not guilty' were told that they had a couple of minutes to change their plea before the jury, sitting downstairs, would be brought up and the penalties if found guilty would be distinctly tougher. In every case they changed their plea. "So they also serve who only sit and wait."

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Afternoon, had a nice day today. Woke up early, but Lucy came back to bed with me, so we chilled and watched TV before I had to go and get my glasses. Was late going to the coffee shop as I went when I got back, it was dead, but by the time I left, it was heaving, so I wonder if that logic that seeing someone in a shop encourages you to go in is true. Sun came out while I was there, so I did a little walk before getting my bottle of milk. I'm enjoying my new after work routine, the hour I spent with my neighbour has now been split into a 20 min walk, 10 mins of housework and 30 mins of reading, all of which make me feel better, and gave me more time today, although I might need to rethink that when the weather improves and I can walk more.

message 16285: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments A walk sounds so lovely - and we're all in favour of reading.

You sound lightened, Desley.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, woke up early as Lucy had pushed me to the end of the bed and I was cold. Sunday chores this morning and hopefully seeing my friend this pm.

Yes, I am Alicia. I was that concerned about being lonely without neighbour that I put up with too much, and now realise that a combination of the lack of time and her attitude towards things I enjoy was detrimental to my happiness, and that was part of last years problem, she was tied up more and I was doing more stuff I like and realised I liked it. I think the timing might have worked though, am glad that I'm back in touch with friend, especially as I've realised with some of our recent conversations that she is adapting to being divorced and a single mum, so some of her suggestions to do things (even just the 10 min walk to Lidl) are actually giving her the motivation to get out, as well as being good for me, and she does more of the things I enjoy than neighbour did, although she is 13 years older than me. Just need to get back into cooking properly now.

message 16287: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments That motivation is hard - I haven't been out of the apartment in a couple of weeks. I'm writing, sort of, so it's not wasted, but it's been chilly, and I haven't made the effort - no one to do it with, and the stupid omicron outside.

I think I'll try harder. I'm letting it keep me in a state of free-floating worry.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments It can be really hard Alicia, I bought headphones with my birthday money to try and encourage me to walk more, as while I was happy to force myself when walking friend was busy again, I couldn't make myself go as far. The weather doesn't help either. We've actually just been for a walk and finished in a cafe for a hot drink, second time this weekend, but then I feel it's what I enjoy and I work hard (well, not so hard this week!), so why not?

message 16289: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I hear you on the walking Desley. Now that I can walk again, I've been enjoying getting out but when it's this cold I find it really hard to motivate myself. I try and make sure there's something I need to walk up to town and get every day. That helps.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I don't find it too hard when it is cold and dry but when it's wet and windy, which is the majority of the time, it is hard. Sometimes friend has suggested a walk late afternoon, and I say yes even though I've already done my walk in the morning, to try and compensate for the days I can't do enough!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments So when I went for walk with friend yesterday, we went along the canal and stopped to look in a field that had 2 llamas, 2 geese, a mallard and a cat!! So random, but while watching the cat hunt something (not any of the wildlife we could see!), someone went through the canal lock, so we stood and watched, not seen someone go through one for years. With not having my glasses for 10 days, my light sensitivity isn't as bad, so I am just wearing them in front of the computer. Saw one of our directors today for the first time this year, he clearly noticed something was different, but went with 'oh, you aren't wearing make up' - I pointed out I haven't worn make up for work for years (since using eye drops on a regular basis actually), so he went with 'oh, it's so much better than seeing people with heavy make up on'!! We got our monthly wellbeing newsletter today, it mentioned that new years resolutions that are about small changes to help self care and your mental health are much more likely to succeed than the traditional diet and exercise, which is certainly what mine is about.

Wow Stuart, hope you are enjoying your travels.

Perhaps, since making resolutions seems to guarantee those things won't happen, we should do as you say and resolve to d the opposite. I believe parents call it reverse psychology.

Try telling the toddler that they can only have greens when they're a big boy :-)

message 16299: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments My toddlers are in their 30s. The only food story I remember (other than making and decorating Christmas cookies and a gingerbread Home Depot) is the time middle child suddenly decided he didn't want broccoli any more, and I blew my top.

I told him we, as a family, including him, had ALWAYS eaten broccoli, and that he wasn't about to complicate my life by NOT eating broccoli, and it would ruin our Chinese food and quiches, and he wasn't allowed to - and he looked at me, startled, ate his broccoli, and there was never another problem about it.

His elder sibling decided to eat broccoli raw - that was easy: I left that portion uncooked after trimming.

You have to understand that, as a parent with ME/CFS homeschooling these kids, I was always at the end of my string. Kid still eats broccoli without a second thought.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, frustrating day with colleagues today not reading what I sent them - the first one got told to 'read the last line of my e-mail :-)' - he replied saying clearly he can't multi task, I decided not to respond saying I manage it perfectly fine!! We had a bit of rain this morning, so remembered to check the gutter at the back of the house at lunch and the wall is dry, forgot to check the front, sure heard rain hitting the bin. Must do that next time we get rain. Did two walks again, one with friend. Got to go back the office 3 days a week from 31st, so a week and a bit left to do what I choose (which is 2 days in the office, much better)

Love it Alicia, and it's stuck to this day!
