M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Desley, I do hope you feel better soon!
Ro: miserable fuckers of the world unite. You are not alone. I'm feeling it more than I would but only because I did NaNo all November and so I didn't notice all the shite!

Everyone, I've done a free Christmas Story so if you fancy a light novella I'll post the link in the freebies section, or new releases or my bit or ... somewhere so just grab it when it goes live. It's out Christmas Day or at least, in my world, Arnold The Prophet's Birthday (blessings be upon him).

Yes hope you're back on your feet soon Desley
Our decorations are the cards which go up as they arrive and come down when we notice they're still up :-)

And if I remember I'll clear the side table and carry the tree (still decorated from last year) back and stick it there :-)

That's our decorations :-)

And why not mention this free book here!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Alright then, Jim.

Ro this might be a bit much, if it is let me know and I'll remove the huge big pic or just link to my author thread ...

Officially out now ...
This isn't exactly a new release ... it's a Christmas Easter Egg. This story will be released in an extended form next year. This year, I'm giving it away because I'm feeling kind like that. If you're happy sideloading books onto your e-reader, you may enjoy this small slice of humorous dystopian sci-fi.

Trouble afoot: Parrot abroad

When Mrs Ormaloo brings the terrible news to the Turnadot Street Businesswomen’s Association that the Grongles are going to burn some more banned books on the night of Arnold, The Prophet's birthday, Gladys and Ada decide to take steps. They even enrol some of the punters from their pub to help out. The books are in a warehouse being kept under guard. Gladys, Ada, Their Trev and the rest of the group embark on a plan of devilish cunning to rescue as many banned books from the flames as they can.

Corporal Crundy is determined not to mess up his first assignment since his promotion. It should be easy. All he has to do is guard some books. Yeh. It should be a piece of cake but somehow that’s not the way it turns out.

Written in British English this is a free Chirstmas Easter Egg for MTM Mailing list users and Jolly Japery fans. Enjoy! :-)

Suggested cinema rating, PG.

If you're interested and are happy side loading stuff to your e-reader, you can download it here: https://dl.bookfunnel.com/yuoolkzb1y

Not yet, but it's the topic of my blog for Christmas Day - which I'm setting up at the moment! :-) I can ping you a link for that if you like so you can share as and when.I was going to do it all on Christmas Day. :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, am sure I said I'm not normally busy at this time of year, but had a busy couple of days! Was turkey day at work yesterday, got to chat to some colleagues I haven't seen much of (including a retired colleague), then had to drop two turkeys off, luckily when I got to colleagues, baby was asleep so I just got shown her and then had a chat, took turkey to friends and had a chat with them too - left work at 4.45, got home at 8.10!! Had my sis on the phone too, with a family drama, so less people on boxing day - shame as I'd won a raffle prize and got a bottle of wine to give as a present! Boring morning at work, saw friend at lunch, she brought her son's, but said we won't do that again! And then been to hers after work, as her friend should have been coming over, but her car broke down. It has felt very weird being in people's houses, but nice.

We haven't done that much here - most of the socializing in our retirement community is in the public spaces and activities - but it is very nice when it happens.

Hope to do more - the pandemic has made huge dents in 'how we used to do things.' The new normal will be different in large and subtle ways alike - if it ever gets here.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, another quiet day at work, at least in my lunch break I was able to do some of the chores and get milk, and after work I cleaned the desk, hoovered the carpet and now bedroom can be a bedroom for 2 weeks! Went to one of the neighbours to give him a present and got asked why he hadn't seen much of me, he hadn't realised me and other neighbour had fallen out. Just half a day in the office and then it's Christmas, got a couple of presents to deliver tomorrow

Yes, it will be interesting to see what life is like going forward, although I do enjoy this quieter pace of life and working from home has advantages.

You appear to be managing it well. I'm glad it suits you, I can see it being the normal way of doing things for a lot of people soon

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Yes, I've settled into it well, although I do like being able to go in the office as well

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, we were allowed to finish at 12, but most of us spent the last hour walking round and chatting to people! Went to the tip on the way home to get rid of a load of cardboard, was odd as there was a queue, 3 cars came out and then when I got in there were about 8 spare parking bays, so can only assume one had just dumped his car somewhere daft and blocked people! Ended up spending some time with ratty neighbour, then me and Lucy did what our main intention for Christmas is - snuggling on the sofa! Hoping to see friend in a bit to swap presents and have a drink. Funny, our MD came round like he always does and said he hoped I got to do what I wanted to this Christmas, I actually feel like I will, even though if someone had said at the beginning of the year that I wouldn't be speaking to neighbour, I might have had a panic worrying what I would do without her to spend time with, but I'm enjoying my own company, just need to weather to improve so I can do some walks.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Merry Christmas! Hope you all have a lovely day, whatever you end up doing! x Would you believe I forgot it was Lucy's birthday yesterday! Good job she has something nice for tea tonight.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Happy Boxing Day! That was a lovely Christmas Day, no stress and just chatting to a friend with no clock watching. Doubt Boxing Day with 2 kids under the age of 9 will be as quiet! Lucy clearly found Christmas Day very stressful

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Day after Christmas here - and I just 'helped' the husband fix the refrigerator. We were hearing something - which turned out to be the water line vibrating against the fridge - taped down it stopped driving us crazy, and now the whole thing is back into its assigned space, NOT making noise.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, starting with a cold (done a covid test which was negative), today is the kind of day I was dreading without neighbour, as friends are all busy, and it's supposed to rain all day. Hopefully I'll be fine to lie on the sofa watching TV and finishing my book.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Problem is I'm not enjoying my book, not quite sure why I'm reading it. Only an hour left, so will finish it today. Prob a good thing I'm not going for a walk, forgot I've got a pain from walking yesterday. I've even done my task for the day

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Had an interesting Christmas, it’s 10.48 and I’m just about to get out of bed after my first night at home in my own bed. Mum needs help in the loo - all you have to do is pull up her pants but because she has to hold onto things so she can’t do that very easily herself without growing an extra arm. And if she doesn’t do it right, they leak. I hadn’t been to stay at Mum’s for two years.

I’d forgotten how little people with dementia sleep, during the night, that’s for sure!

If you don't enjoy a book, stop reading it. Life is too short, no matter who wrote the book, recommended it or gave you it. Put it to one side and try another :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I know Jim, I managed it at one point. Now I feel I'm 80% in so might as well just do that last hour!

I suppose at 80% you will be in the position to definitively say you didn't like it. Your not just somebody who got bored after the first three pages

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Afternoon, I'm certainly getting the hang of this relaxing, to the point it's getting a struggle to get the motivation to do the tasks I've set myself, as sitting watching TV and playing games seems much more fun! Unfortunately Lucy is clearly finding me too much, I've just watched a film upstairs and she didn't come and join me! I've also fallen into that trap between Christmas and New Year where I have no idea what day of the week it is

No, I'm certainly not Jim, just the stubborn person who thinks it might get better!

message 16232: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Ah grasshopper, you have achieved mastery in relaxing :-)
Of such things greatness is made

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I have Jim, I sometimes think I should feel guilty, seeing as I've spent so long trying to stop my lazy side, but it is so nice. Laid in bed till nearly 10 this morning, and have watched another film. Only doing halfhearted attempts at my chores, but better than nothing, too wet and windy to go for a walk. Did have to ring the mortgage company today, finally got the letter after the recent interest rate - ironically it reduced by £72, from what I was paying before I increased it, so now back to the higher amount, today's person actually found a way round the fact that it's too late to change my Jan payment, no one has ever done that before.

message 16234: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It's the period between Christmas and New Year. If you cannot relax then, when can you relax?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Thanks Jim, that is a very good point, and the chores I'm struggling to do are only things like sorting out the freezer and the kitchen cabinet. I've barely had any time off this year (and need to do something about that in the new year, got 12 weeks to take 7 days holiday, as long as I get approval to sell 5), so yes, relaxing is more important. Now the dilemma of what TV show to watch next!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I've been so relaxed I have barely moved for the last week. Other than to cook, wash dishes and take out the empties to the recycling :D

Happy Hogmanay to all, and here's hoping for a better year to come.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Hope you've enjoyed your chilled week R.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Happy New Year - hope we have covid in the rear-view mirror soon.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Happy New Year everyone, let’s hope that this is a better one Covid wise and that we can start getting back to some of the things we have missed.

One thing that falling out with my neighbour has taught me is that you shouldn’t rely on someone else for your happiness, and also that unless your likes are harmful to you or others, you shouldn’t listen when people try and stop you doing what makes you happy, so that is my plan for 2022, and my new years resolution is going to be to carry on the relaxing I’ve learnt how to do this holiday and let myself stay in bed more, if we have no plans for the day, there really is no need to be out of bed by 9am! Unless we get a nice summer then it would be a shame to waste a nice day by lying in bed.

So, not only am I excited about a new year for opportunities and reading, but also new book day and new monthly game challenge day and I don’t care if that makes me sound boring! Going to start the year by watching a film, then going for a new years day walk with a friend, and then reading, all my favourite things.

Jim | 21809 comments All the best everybody

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Desley, glad you’ve learned the zen art of relaxation! Mwahahhargh!

We’ve had a lovely veg out at the in-laws. Yesterday, I did less steps than when I have flu, according to my fitbit. Had a rough time of it until quite recently so it’s great to relax. Two nights running with no heart palpitations. Woot!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I just watched Frozen with my daughter over Disney+ - she started a group watch, and I joined. Silly, Disney, and fine.

She's on the other side of the continent - NY vs. California - but they let you watch with friends. Nice.

The kids are being SO good - it's hard not to see friends.

message 16244: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I can imagine. I think that McNotSoMini was actually saved by online gaming and being able to interact with friends over the ether. It wasn't the same but it definitely helped. Stuff like that, being able to watch, together, from afar, is where technolgy can be really good. :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, real life is creeping back in now, have some housework to do and need to go and buy cat litter and food! It's supposed to be dry till 1 though, so am going to go for a walk first, then go to the retail park and finish off with housework, not like me at all!

I was talking to my friend about that when we went for a walk on Mon, luckily her boys are happy to do indoor things, which has been helpful in the current climate.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, going for an eye test at 11, then taking advantage of people being back in work/school to go round a couple of shops to spend my Christmas money. It's a nice, if cold, day, so I might even get chance to go for a walk once I'm back.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Enjoy. I've been banned from Facebook for a conversation in which I take the piss out of some Americans who are clearly laughing (or 'being British' as it's sometimes called). So I'm going to try and get the edits done on my current w.i.p. Also have a visit to Mum's tomorrow. Still have heart palpitations every time I lie down but I'm pretty sure it's the hiaitus hernia making a return. In a moment or two I'm going to pop up to the doctor's and book an appointment. It's all go.
