Yes, I've been lucky, it had just stopped raining when I left mine, and was dry when I left hers, so I did a long circuit home, and it started raining minutes after I walked in! Now I'm going to have a soak in the bath

You've obviously got the knack of timing :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments We've actually had some snow/hail fall. It's not warm!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Alas my timing sucks as it rained when I was about as far from home as I was going to get on my walk and I was somewhat damp when I got home. I’ve split my waterproof trousers too. It looks like I’ve farted a hole in them!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Hope you didn't catch a chill. Thanks for the laugh.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, a quiet day at work, colleague on maternity leave brought baby in for the first time, was nice to see them both. Miserable weather again, glad I decided to leave retail park till my day off - it's supposed to rain then too, but at least I can time it a bit better. Lidl have heated cushions in this weeks Specialbuys, would require having the plug socket altered, but am rather tempted! Think I'd definitely manage to stay in bed longer with heated cushion and blanket.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, nice day off, weather was much better than expected. Lucy did wake me up at 4.17, and then fussed for an hour, gave up trying to get back to sleep at 6.30, fed the cats, and then watched a film in bed with Lucy. Went to the retail park, turns out I forgot the two things I forgot to put on the list, did treat myself to a couple of things - strange how now I don't have neighbour nagging me to spend all my money rather than saving it, I don't mind getting the odd thing that is more expensive (though I still like getting bargains). Popped to Aldi for their limited edition red cupcake cream liqueur, also came out with a candle and a present that isn't for friends birthday, if you get my drift! Then had to wait for friend to be ready before we could go to the candle shop, came back with a new burner for the bathroom and a wax melt (it's been in the sale section all year, finally relented and bought it!), it is much cheaper to go to work! Managed to get a cancellation app at the private podiatrist for tomorrow morning, not sure how much that will cost, but hopefully last time, am determined this year I'm going to have the surgery.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Well, that was a productive, if expensive day. Podiatrist was lovely, £30 for a 30 min session, but she did do things I don't get on a NHS podiatry app and I wasn't rushed. She said that my right nail needs fully removing, it's the skin tag lifting it causing it to curve, so it's either keep getting podiatry apps to be cut back, or remove it, but it will be the full nail and not the strips they normally do. Will ring docs on my day off next week to see if they still do it, and what the waiting list is, if not will have to go through podiatry. Rang the vets at lunch to order Lucy's meds and chase my claim from last month, that needs re-doing, but they let me pay over the phone for her meds and then put the claim in - not sure it can be included as it's two policy years, but we'll see what happens. Went to Lidl after work with ratty neighbour, didn't get one of the things I went for, but found other stuff I didn't know Lidl sell! Got my new wax melt storage, I have too many wax melts for them, so either need to shuffle things, or buy more drawers! Now making lentil soup, can't remember the last time I made that.

Jim | 21809 comments I had a big toe tail finally drop off after it came into contact with a digger bucket, but it grew back perfectly fine :-)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Buy more drawers, Desley. Life is too short. If you have the room...

We only got rid of/placed in a new home many of our possessions because we moved (and hadn't used many of them for a while). But it was useful stuff, not hoarding (I tell myself). As proof - most of it went to teachers.

I lost both from hockey boots that didn't fit.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments My toenails are all perfect :D

I really shouldn't read new posts from the bottom up - was wondering why Alicia was telling Desley to buy more underwear!

Frost here this morning, must be really cold inland for us at the beach to get it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Lentil soup is tasty, but I either didn’t cook it long enough, or my blender is rubbish, as the leek and celery are still quite chunky. Currently dry, and don’t need to go anywhere after work, so will drive straight home and if it is still dry, go for a walk, as we have rain forecast for the next 5 days, so won’t get much chance, although it won’t stop me going for a ruby mocha tomorrow. Lucy will appreciate me being in most of the weekend, she’s been really clingy since I went back in the office 3 days

I hope not Jim, they put some stuff on the nail bed to prevent the nail growing back, it doesn’t work in all cases, so lets hope it works in mine! Jealous of your perfect toenails R, mine have caused issues since I was a teenager. Why would you read from the bottom up?? You aren't the only person to suggest buying more storage Alicia - I have already put another set in my basket!

Thanks for the laugh of the day, Rosemary.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, wet and windy, but have managed to do lots of fun things (well, for me anyway) - lots of cuddles with Lucy, went to coffee shop for a ruby mocha, the coffee really took the sweetness away, I nearly had to add sugar, second set of drawers arrived, I still decanted some wax melts as I found it enjoyable, the second has tealights, liners and some space, bought some books, played my game. I do like my new Saturday routine.

Jim | 21809 comments Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "I do like my new Saturday routine.,..."

Good, you need a day to chill and relax :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Well, I don't fully get one, as I split my housework over both days as I find that gives me time to relax both days (although I'm more relaxed about that now, there are certain things that are essential, anything else can wait), Sunday is more of a relaxing day, I don't always leave the house.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Afternoon, bit more of a practical day today, Sunday chores and just cooking something for this week's lunches - hoping to get 3 portions, then combined with the soup left from last week, have enough for the next 2 weeks in the office. Shortly going to have a bath and read my book, then do face and foot mask. Wet and windy again today, glad that I've finally got used to spending a day in the house (even if I don't understand that)

After writing that blog you'd have to wait for the keys to cool down :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Well, things were going quite well today till after work! Woke up to an e-mail from PetPlan saying they'd paid Lucy's claim, just over half of what she cost last year, mid morning I got an e-mail about the parcel I took back to the post office the other week, that is also being refunded, so both will be in my account by the end of the week. Had two meetings today, my 121 was late because of a deadline, so only ended up having a short lunch. Was positive though, the only thing boss said to improve on that if I get given a task that isn't related to a deadline, to take more time doing it and making it the best I can, rather than rush it and then have to go back and improve it. she'd rather I take longer on things, which is nice to hear. I've always felt people want things quickly. She did say she wondered sometimes if I had enough work, and to shout if I don't, although in the past when I've done that, by the time someone has found me something, I'm busy again. She's also fine with me doing set flexible days, so in the office Mon, Thu and Fri unless I need to change for either work or a personal thing. The afternoon meeting went OK, and shorter than booked, which was nice. Popped to the hospital after work for some more eye drops, as I haven't followed her schedule they won't last, went into B & M to see if I could replace one of Chanel's toys, came back with something completely different. Got home to find that the bag of frozen mushrooms I'd decided to bin last night had leaked through the bag so had to try and clean up, then dispose of the leaking bag - I could hear neighbour's voice, but had to just go for it, despite the fact that I was in my PJ's at this point, I'd taken my dressing gown off so it didn't get dirty while I was cleaning and didn't want to put the leaking bag back down to put my coat on, so they saw me in slightly less than I normally leave the house wearing - she stopped mid conversation and stared at me when I left the house, I just ignored them.

You'd think not Jim, but I don't mind it anymore. I don't know why, I've always hated a day in the house. Interesting blog post MT, racism makes me so sad, you really would think after all this time we wouldn't be bothered by something like skin colour

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, day started off really wet and windy, but dried up about 11, so I popped out and did some errands at lunch, then went for a walk after work - went round park, it is really waterlogged, there is one path that is just a stream and the grass at the side is a bit like a lake (it's at the bottom of a hill, so clearly pooled there) - not sure I've seen it like that before. Spent my £40 refund, mainly on Amazon - looking forward to my new smart light bulbs, they might help my new relaxing way of life (and some wax melts may have been ordered too). Day off tomorrow, was hoping to walk, maybe have lunch, then watch TV with friend, but we are now in the storm catchment area, so we are seeing what the morning brings.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Our weather station storm warning went off at 3.15am (it's always the middle of the night) so I spent the next two hours listening to the wind rising as I couldn't get back to sleep. It's pretty violent out there now and I think the worst is yet to come. No walks for me today!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Glad you liked the blog Desley. It was pretty windy coming back from Mum's today and I suspect the journey to Scotland tomorrow is going to be interesting ... and possibly quite scary.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, really good day off despite the weather - was woken up at 5.30 by the wind, it died down a bit, so we decided to go out for lunch at Wetherspoons, then walk round market town - we got there 5 mins before they stopped serving breakfast, it was lovely, not had a breakfast out since pre Covid, as neighbour was rarely up in time, either the market is rubbish on a Wed, or people hadn't turned up due to the weather, but got some nice cheese. On the way home noticed coffee shop had a new bake, so we went for a drink, then my parcel was 3 stops away, so we came back to wait for it, installed one of my new smart light bulbs, which is great, tomorrow I'm going to try switching it on from the car - I can even colour co-ordinate it with my room! Will do the other on Fri. Then went back to friends and watched the last two episodes of our show, had a natter. Enjoying my days off so much more now, wouldn't have done half of those things with neighbour. Weather has got worse since I got back, we had hail stone about half an hour ago.

Safe journey tomorrow MT

Love to hear how you're doing so many more interesting and active things.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Thanks Alicia, I'm certainly enjoying my time off a lot more now

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, rubbish night sleep, then a busy day, had a 1.5 hour meeting, and quite a bit came in while I was off yesterday and my boss left them for me, we normally average 3 opportunities a day, I've input 12 today (well, part input, there were too many to do them properly!). Doesn't help that the office is more sociable these days, as you might only see people once a week. For a brief period this pm I was on my own in the wing, so headphones on and just got on with it. Rang the doc in my lunch break, one of them is still doing the nail avulsion surgery, which will be closer to the house than going through podiatry, but he has to see me, so got an app 7.30 am next Thu, will see what his waiting list is. Demonstrated my new light bulb to a couple of neighbours from outside the house after work, Alexa can recognise which colour I want the bulb, but when I ask, then went to lidl and forgot something, so will have to go back

Jim | 21809 comments A tad windy here :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, been a mix of wind, hail, sleet and rain today, but looking at pictures, not as bad as a lot of places. We have a weather warning for ice overnight, snow forecast tomorrow and a weather warning for rain on Sun, so suspect I'll see a lot of my sofa - I know I said I'd finally learnt how to spend a day in my house by myself, but it is finally getting me down, I just want it dry enough to go for a decent walk. Lucy might like the idea of me being on the sofa a lot though, and I might get through a wax melt or two (good job, as the new easter ones arrived today, although Feb is too early to burn them). Set up the second smart light bulb at lunch, went much quicker than the first, tested it by using the disco light function during my dept teams meeting! So next time I go to bed with my hands full, I don't have to use my chin to put the light on! Might get another for the kitchen, the energy saving bulb in there takes about 10 mins to get bright enough to do certain things, like Lucy's liquid meds.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I'm waiting for a phone call from a shut-in friend - then maybe there'll still be enough daylight for a ride around the building.

Should have done it in the opposite order, but she's three time zones away, and I keep forgetting to call until it's too late.

message 16387: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments It's been snowy and windy here although it turned to snitter and didn't sit. We now seem to be in the calm before the storm.

I have discovered that my phone doesn't like the charging cable I've brought with me so it's run out of battery. Hopefully nobody'll need to get in touch with me before tomorrow when we go home. Stupid fucking thing. I wouldn't mind if it had actually come with a goddamn cable but why the chuff would they sell it without one if only a specific handful actually work.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Afternoon, we ended up with thunder and lightning just after I went to bed last night. Woke up to snow, at one point the biggest flakes I've seen. Sun came out about 2.30 and is melting everything, so I popped to Lidl to discover they don't sell what I forget to get on Thu, so went to co-op who do, and then came home via the park, it's even more waterlogged than Tue. Did some online retail therapy this morning to cheer me up, got some make up (not had much since covid), got a set worth £54 for £20, and some nail varnishes in the sale - was tempted with a nail varnish advent calendar, but thought I'd be better spending the money on more smart bulbs.

That is true Jim and at least I have plenty of entertainment, my little luxuries, and I only have myself to entertain, don't have bored kids to entertain - although Lucy does fuss a lot when she can't go out. Hope you got out Alicia. Oh no MT!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Thanks for asking, Desley. I didn't get out yesterday because it was dark by the time I finished a phone call with a friend back in New Jersey.

I hope to get out today - it's going to be 21°C later today. And bright and sunny.

I could use new makeup - that sounds like a nice purchase.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Afternoon, friend rang shortly after I posted last night, she was torn whether to go for a walk or not, so I agreed to go with her to encourage her, helped me as I got extra steps in, as today, its that wet and windy I don't even want to put the rubbish out! Apparently this is classed as another storm and we have a flood warning in place. Looking forward to having a bath later and reading my book.

Glad you caught up with your friend and hope you got out Alicia

I did, thanks. They keep changing the 'system' around here, and we can no longer phone in takeout orders.

So I went down late (no people in line), ordered my brunch, and then went out and rode about on Maggie for 15-20 minutes, and when I got back the bag was ready for me.

It was gorgeous out. And if don't ride Maggie for a couple of days, OR too often, it hurts (even with padding, it's still a bicycle seat), so going out every couple of days is critical to be able to do longer rides again.

Went off-campus to the greenway for a short distance - felt good.

Glad you got out before the windy part.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Glad you got out Alicia. Temp must have dropped here, as we have hailstone again, as well as heavy wind. Hope it'll be better when I have to go in the office tomorrow.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments We had a bit of a mix of weather in Scotland, beautiful blue skies one day, blowing a hoolie the two either side of them. Now we're back home and it's definitely a bit blowy. It's slightly unnerving seeing the wind buffeting a 60ft birch tree and watching the actual trunk moving from about five feet up. I know they're meant to do that but this is in town.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, was wet and wild overnight, heard some strange noises. Left the house this morning to find some of those were wheely bins, but one was the fact Lucy's kennel had blown off the street - how it got past 3 cars and 9 wheely bins I'll never know, as nothing looks damaged. I had contemplated getting rid of it, so it might be a blessing, unless someone finds it and brings it back! Let Lucy out after work and she was rather confused. had to stop in the car park today for a rabbit! Colleague saw a fox this afternoon, have never seen one near work, and didn't think they'd be out about 4pm. Went for a little walk round the village after I got home, we still have extra water in the park (there was a dog enjoying one of the ponds we don't normally have!), but very little in the way of trees blown over. Bumped into my friend on the way back, so went and had a brew with her, at least I have plans for my day off on Wed now

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, day off, had a rubbish night sleep. Was hoping to go out for breakfast, but friend's radiator sprung a leak last night, plumber couldn't get to her till 10.30, so we ended up having breakfast instead. Had a little walk round shops, went to an outlet type place I've not been to for years, only came home with 2 things, but would go back. Then we watched a film called My Octopus Teacher on Netflix, it was so fascinating.

Anyone heard from Kath recently?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments She's on Facebook quite a bit Desley. Not so much on here now though.

Had worse weather here to day than during the last named 'storm'. Although maybe was another one? I've lost track...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments thanks R, glad to know she is OK, even if she isn't posting on here. We might get another storm tomorrow, it's got a lot wetter and windier here the last hour or so
