Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Thanks Desley, ouch, hope your toe isn't too painful.

Yippee. The new laptop arrived today and I've been setting it up. Getting all my faves downloaded, apps etc.

Now, here's a question for those in the know. What should I do about security? Free AVG or paid for McAfee? A friend has, I think, popped the free AVG on for me in the past, but I am setting this up on my own and want to make sure I do the right thing. Thanks.

Great. Thank you, I'll have a look at that.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hello! I've spent the morning - and will likely spend most of the afternoon - on making something for family C-word presents. Shouldn't talk about it before December but I need time to get things ready. And tomorrow will be different. It's the village fish and chip lunch! Ain't life grand?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Rubbish night sleep, so eyes are struggling today. Receptionist rang me yesterday afternoon, vets mum is in hospital so has been rearranging appointments, unfortunately she is the only vet who can do acupuncture. Provisionally rearranged for one of my days off, but subject to change.

Glad the laptop has arrived Kelly, good luck on getting security sorted.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Another fun evening, we’ve had a friendly cat keep coming round for the last few weeks, scanned her last night to discover she was chipped, but unfortunately as I don’t volunteer anymore, I don’t have access to get details so we ended up taking her to my neighbours vets to get them to contact the owner – her registered address is nearly 5 miles away!! Unfortunately the number was out of order, so the vet was going to post a letter through the door on her way home, and take her to the RSPCA today, as she was from there originally. I really do hope that the owner can be located, she clearly has been well cared for, she is so friendly. It was quite an unusual feeling, as I’m used to scanning, logging on to get details and then just doing some house to house searches, was odd having to just leave her at the vets for them to deal with – and this is my old vet, luckily the staff on knew me, it was quite nice seeing them again actually. As this is my life though, it didn’t go quite as straight forward as that, I couldn’t find my car keys, after 10 mins of searching I discovered I have a spare set of keys, which I never knew! Had another search when we got home and did eventually find them! Didn’t have a great night sleep and it was raining when I woke up, but now we have blue sky. Decided to get to work early as we had a 9am meeting, to be told at 8.45 it was cancelled! Should have had my quarterly one-to-one meeting this morning, but it got rearranged to this afternoon.

Very quiet on here these days.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It is! I'm back from the village lunch, full of fish and chips. Just made a brew and left it in the kitchen!😱

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Yes very quiet Desley. A lot of the old guard seem to be missing in action.

We're having some lovely autumn weather here at the moment. I am enjoying it to the full and avoiding the news when at all possible. What a bloody mess

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Fires in northern and southern California, but we are not affected greatly yet. Praying for rain.

Many areas have had their electricity turned off - it's a mess, including that infrastructure hasn't been maintained, and the utility is bankrupt - they don't want the high winds to result in trees taking down power lines and starting fires.

I can't imagine what it's like for those who need their medical equipment powered.

It did strike me, we've never done Halloween and are far too far out for trick and treaters to walk to. But somehow a writer is expected to produce a story for the season, so I've stuck something on the Tallis blog.
I suppose it gives writers the change to slip a little darkness into their work ;-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments One to one went well, managed to get it done in less than an hour, it was booked for 2! Have seen some lovely Halloween decorated windows this week, might have to watch a scary film on Sat. Friend nipping round tonight, and need to tidy for the cleaner and post her my key, plus get some milk from Sainsbury’s. Good job I was in early.

Hmm, think Darren’s makes more sense MT! Although this is the only kind of social media I use. Am glad you aren’t too affected by the fires Alicia, it looks awful.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Afternoon, each. Got the food shopping done this morning. Then some reviews - and now I'm off to play. I've made cheese scones which are cooling, and a rye loaf which is rising, but I feel a little ball of wool and a crochet hook calling my name...

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Alicia, it is horrifying to see the news reports and what people have to suffer. So glad you aren't affected.

I've got a terrible, stinky cold, been over a week now. Grrrr. Just about getting through the day at work, and then other urgent stuff I need to do when I get home.

Weather is miserable here — rain, rain and then a bit more rain.

Sorry your cold is lingering where it isn't wanted. Please send the rain here - it would be far more appreciated.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Ended up with a really hectic evening, was asleep before 10! Woke up early and stiff though. Did find a random bruise on my left arm this morning, it isn’t sore fortunately. Going to the hairdressers straight from work and then going to a Chinese buffet that is randomly on an industrial estate, so they also put on entertainment as there isn’t anywhere else you can go after eating. And a 4 day weekend as well, so in a happy mood, despite the weather being gloomy.

Ooh, love cheese scones Kath, but not sure why you would wait for them to cool! Hope your cold disappears soon Kelly. Wish I could send you our rain Alicia!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m quiet, struggling a bit with various things. If I don’t talk about them perhaps they’ll go away 😀
Hope everyone is well and not blown away yet. It’s calm here not but OH says it’s because we are in the centre of the storm.
Watching the rugby, I do wish they wouldn’t sing god save OUR Queen.
I’ve really enjoyed the rugby and thought the Japanese hosts have been amazing. Loved how the little mascots have actually sung the anthems with the teams.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Had a really good night, the only downside was between the hairdresser and sitting down for the meal, I was so stiff I could only dance in my chair and was jealous of a woman at the next table who was really letting her hair down, and not even bothering with the dance floor! Don't think I've had enough sleep though so might see if I can have a nap later, although I'm the first one up, so will probably want a sleep when neighbour gets up and wants to give me my present! Not much to do today, have picked out a scary film for tonight, and waiting for a reasonable hour to have some cake, as I was too stuffed last night - 4 very generous courses at the buffet, I did eat some with chopsticks. There is a new coffee shop opening today, might have a wander round.

Sorry to hear that Lynne, you know what they say, a problem shared is a problem halved.

Are Best Wishes in order? There was mention of cake.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Yep, 21 again today ;-) I was good and waited till 11 for cake, figured you have biscuits for elevenses! Have had a nice day, not sure why I got a lot of cat related things though, and 3 lots of hand cream! not sure about my new boots though, but today probably wasn't a good day to wear new shoes. Nipped to the new coffee shop, had a hot choc with English Toffee syrup, was lovely, and will be back next week, luckily he is doing a loyalty card system. Just reading while tea is cooking, then going to watch a scary film and eat cinder toffee.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Ah. Sounds lovely.

Today (Nov. 2) was my husband's birthday, and we celebrated, and the kids called. I even managed to get him a present he liked: his pajamas were getting very ratty, and new ones were just the ticket. Got him two pairs.

Hope you enjoyed your toffee - I don't think I'd dare: too many crowns.

Jim | 21812 comments Went to Coniston yesterday to catch up with friends who rented a holiday cottage there for a week
Walked up the Coppermines valley. The rain held off, but the place was really atmospheric with thick cloud and wisps of it in the various streams above us
The noise of the water was so loud at times you had to speak more loudly

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Up early again, and looks very drizzly out, might be glad of the new coat my neighbour bought me as it has a hood! Being taken out for lunch by a friend, she hasn't told me where, just that it is a restaurant rather than café, slightly apprehensive, I like to know I will be able to eat when I go out! Good chance to wear the new dress my neighbour bought me though.

I should have remembered your hubby's birthday was the same as mine Alicia! Cinder toffee is actually honeycomb, so not as harsh on teeth, although I did suck some of the larger pieces to be on the safe side! Lucy was fussing as the bag rustled, gave her a little bit to prove it wasn't for her, and she ate it! Sounds lovely Jim.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all. I have decided to stay in today, mostly. Although I will pop along to a friend's open studio event along the road to support her. The weather is foul today. I could hear the wild sea all night - the wind hadn't reached here yet - but it's here now. Along with the rain. A few leaves hanging on, but everything is drookit, cold and limp.

Hope you enjoy your meal out Desley, and happy birthday for yesyerday

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning, each. Better weather here, though it may not last.
Went to see the grandson and his minders yesterday. Lovely visit. His daddy (like his granddad) studies moths using a garden trap so he's used to seeing them. Apparently a few days ago they passed a wall with a moth sitting on it. The three year-old leaned over it and said, 'You alright, lad?' I can just hear his dad saying this to him!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments When I opened the front door to let Lucy out, what I thought was drizzly was actually mist, which hasn't fully cleared yet, so glad I'm not the one driving today! Neighbour had us buying mince pies for her yesterday when we nipped to sainsbury's, I'm holding off on the three I want from Aldi.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Well, my friend took me to a local Italian that has recently changed hands - we never went before as the vegi selection was poor, unfortunately that hasn't changed, they don't even do vegi lasagne. What I had was nice, but obviously wouldn't go again. Do feel like I've had a good day though, while I was waiting for her I cleared out some of my old shoes and unsubscribed to some mailing lists, now just downloading apps so I don't have to rummage for store cards while the washing machine is on.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Off today and still awake at normal time! Didn't do some of my Sunday chores yesterday so got those to do and might do some decluttering. Doc app at 12.10 for flu jab and bloods and delivery coming between 12.48 and 1.48, hopefully I'll be back in time. Might go with my neighbour to do an errand, just depends if she can wait till after my parcel has arrived.

Glad there seems to be a bit of light for you Lynne, good luck organising the party.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Another nice productive day, had such a laugh in the docs I barely read any of my book, we had a right character who was amusing the entire waiting room! Parcel arrived half an hour after I got back, but neighbour didn't want to go shopping, so just walked to Lidl for a few bits, popped in the new coffee shop on the way back as I was cold, and treated myself to a white hot choc, was really good, going to go back and try it with a flavoured syrup - we did suggest they bought a strawberry one. Didn't get any cake though. Did a meter reading after the delivery arrived but then realised there was no contact details on the card, had just left neighbours after being to Lidl when someone came to read the meter, so handed him the piece of paper, so that was handy. Now dark and wet, but I'm just about to read my haunted house book so fits well!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Typically, as today is the only day I need to get up early, I feel really drained! Lucy has acupuncture at 8.30 and then we are going buying cat litter and hopefully some nice M & S goodies. Was hoping to eat out while there, but neighbour didn't sound up for that. Raining today, won't be fun when it comes to emptying the car. If I get chance when we get back, I might do some decluttering.

Glad you are feeling more positive Lynne. Nice to hear from you Patti.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Hello!

I'm out of work which is wy I've not been on in the last 3 weeks. No idea what I want to do next.

Stayed up far too late reading my book last night so after I dropped Kitty to school I thought I'd have a wee nap, I woke up 3 hours later, just in time to get something to eat and go pick her up :o)

I hope everyone is keeping well

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Well, that was a long day! Spent an hour at the vets as she was in a chatty mood! Had to do an errand at 11 for my neighbour, then went to get litter, via M & S, I bought too many sweets and some trifle cream liqueur happened to fall in the trolley! Did nearly buy mince pies but they needed eating this week! Got sent to the new coffee shop when we got home as neighbour wanted cake, came home with cherry bakewell cake! Needless to say that as it is now 6 my decluttering wont be done, just the essentials that I need to. Wanted a bath but don't think my knee would like it.

I thought you'd have been on more with being off Jud. Good luck figuring out what to do next. A 3 hour nap sounds heaven!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Clearly did too much lifting the last two days, knee is really bad this morning and I have put my new boots on, which probably isn’t the wisest idea! Came in early so we could go to the cheap shop after work, but don’t feel up to that, don’t really need anything anyway. Gloomy day today, do need to get petrol on the way home though.
