Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! Sunny again. Bit more gardening today before the weather spoils itself. Flower arranging this aft. Life on the edge, eh?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Still not feeling great, glad I don’t have much on this weekend. Nipping to Lidl after work to get one of the special buys in case it is popular and they sell out. Walked in with our MD this morning and got asked to do him a report as soon as I’d clocked in, hate it when that happens! Ended up having a 2.5 hour meeting this morning, so had lunch late – at least the afternoon will only be 2.5 hours long!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments We had a power cut too last night. It didn’t last long. But it bounced on and off several times. I’ve downloaded a torch app (too late to help but for next time perhaps). It was pitch black. OH stood on Billy’s toy ball and in the dark I felt round to see where I was in the room and put my hand on Billy’s real ones. 😀

I've come across people who just did that. How old was she? Some people clear everything away so their family don't keep stumbling across them when they're dead

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning.
Damp here. When I picked up the chicken's water bowl this morning to change the water there was a large selection of assorted sized woodlice underneath. She loves woodlice and scoffed them all up. Must be like a prawn cocktail for chickens. She'll probably have another selection under there by tonight if I remember to lift it up for her.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

My train didn't turn up so I was late in to work for a meeting, then when I tried to dial in my headset wouldn't work. 20 minutes late I got there.

Oh well, it's done now.

Nathan has a horrible chesty cough, it has a croup sound to it so he was awake last night then Kathleen joined us in bed too. Squashed and tired. So tired.

Kath, your chicken is welcome over to ours, we have lots of woodlice in our garden

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Was so wet and windy last night that I decided I really didn’t want to go to Lidl, was very wild by bedtime! Temporary fix hasn’t worked, hinge came off the bedroom door when I tried to shut it last night, the only stable position is shut, so the girls could still come out, but trying to shut it this morning freaked Lucy out, she associates that with a vet visit! Am hoping I can get someone to fix it asap, but it’s only a couple of hours work, so too small for most joiners. Woke up at 5.30 with a sore throat, pins and needles in my hand and my foot was burning, so got up to find a painkiller and disturbed Coco who had been curled up on one of the sofas. Food shopping after work, but do feel like I’ve got a temp and chest is sore, although throat isn’t as sore. I’ve finally figured out how to get eye drops in without having to use tissues or get them dribbling down my face, so I’ve been able to wear blusher this week, and even contemplating eye shadow next week! Morning meeting was cancelled, but am helping out on our reception today instead, we had our pay review this morning, 2% pay rise, more than I expected.

Does your phone not have a torch on it already Lynne? Poor Billy! Bet you are glad it's Friday with that start to a day, do hope Nathan hasn't got croup

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Oh Billy was quite happy to have his Crown Jewels examined, thanks Desley. I had nice warm hands. 😀
No I didn’t have a torch. I have now, so the power will never go off again. Sod’s law and all that.
We’ve got stink bugs by the dozen. I wonder if chickens would eat those but they are hiding in the tops of the curtains and underneath the mosquito door curtain frame. They are giving me the willies, creeping about. Billy tracks them and OH disposés of them. We’ve booked our return and yet again there’s going to be a strike and possible hold ups on the journey. Farmers with tractors have been blocking the roads and say their next demo will be the 22nd. That’s the day we go to the Tunnel. Never fails last 6 times we’ve been there’s been something potentially preventing a smooth trip.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Seems to be April weather we're having at the moment - windy, sunny, showers...

I've just been followed by Decathlon Edinburgh on Insta. An outdoor and sporting goods company hahahaha if only they knew :D

Congratulations on the raise!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Wow, we actually have blue sky and sun - wonder if it would be warm enough to dry my washing? Was supposed to be taking my old TV to the charity shop finally, but shoulder is sore and got pins and needles again, so not going to do that, as I have to collect my friends cats from the cattery at lunch and take them home, that is more important! Couple of other errands and some housework, planning on making stuffed pepper for tea

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all, a glorious morning here, not a cloud in the sky and no wind :) Been out to buy a few violas for my winter pots. They have such cheery faces.

Nursing another fridge door related injury. Actually the freezer door to be accurate which is at floor level - being such a well-coordinated person I managed to open the door over my foot, removing half my big toenail in the process. Ouchy. What a klutz. This was before my Friday night G&T as well!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Hello everyone, Rosemary, I’m so glad that the land that gave us Tunnocks is not banning snacking, I feel that would have been a travesty.

Kath that’s amazing, great going.

Desley I hope you are feeling better soon, knee pain is a real pisser. Sending much sympathy.

Had a bit of a thing this morning. Walking up to the market there was an ambulance parked in the road. Didn’t think much of it as there’s an old folks home nearby. Just hoped it was helping some old dear up rather than anything serious. Came back and the ambulance was parked further up the street and a police car was there. As I walked down the street I came past a couple in their 70s. Something wasn’t right. I walked past, stopped and went back.

‘Are you alright? Can I help you?’ I asked them.
I realised the man was crying and the woman started to cry too and she explained,
‘We found our son dead this morning.’
‘Oh sweetheart, I’m so sorry,’ I said and I grabbed them both and gave them a big hug.
‘We’re just waiting for the coroner,’ she explained, when I’d finished.
‘Can I get you anything? D’you want a cup of tea? I could make you one and nip back, I only live round the corner.’
They hesitated but said no. I told them my address and said that if they needed anything, or any help or needed to talk to anyone to knock on my door. They haven’t. I doubt they ever will, but at least they know they can.

I felt so sorry for them. I hoped the son was my age or older, old enough to have had a decent run at life, even if he hadn’t outlived them. I hoped it was natural causes and not suicide. I hoped a lot of things. I remember a couple of years ago a university friend’s twelve year old son hung himself. I felt so sorry for him that I wanted to turn back time and make it not happen. I didn’t ask this couple much, I couldn’t, could I? But I wished I could ease their pain.

So yeh, a bit of a moment there. And then I went to the driving range with McOther and McMini and got some more sound files from Gareth the Voice with ideas for character interpretations for the audiobook which were great and it all feels quite weird...

Morning all!

Cheers

MTM

Coral | 2 comments Hello all. May I join the chat?

Just getting into reading again after losing my attention span to pregnancy and young children and then just having to read books for my degree. I am concentrating on classics at the moment and loving them.

M.T. Sorry to hear about your neighbour's son. How dreadful.

Tonight I am still awake because I thought I'd have a glass of wine with lunch and promptly fell asleep for 2 hours.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Ended up doing a lot more than planned yesterday, neighbours lodger came with me so we went to the charity shop - I only came back with some cat bowls, no books! And then only because I'd broken one yesterday morning. unfortunately didn't realise the chemist shut so early on a Sat, so didn't do that, but everything else on my list, plus more! Obviously didn't get enough housework done, so that is the plan for today, which is fine as it's raining. Very drained though.

Thanks MT, I've given up hope of them ever figuring out what is causing knee pain, just need to keep remembering myself! What a sad situation to come across, like you I hope it wasn't suicide, but lovely of you to hug them and offer support, am sure they will remember that. Hope your toe isn't too sore R. nice to 'meet' you Coral, glad you are getting into reading again, you may end up wanting to read a lot of books browsing here!

message 12169: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments How sad, MT. Good of you to stop and ask. It's never easy when our children have problems, and they are supposed to outlive us.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

That's horrid Mary. I can't imagine life without either of my kids in it and I suppose that feeling never goes away whether they are 5 or 50. I'm sure your compassion meant everything to that couple.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Hmm, feels like a chasing my tail kind of day, especially after it started with 8 attempts to get an e-mail to send! Then IT asked why I was using a different printer, told them ours can’t do double sided, they asked me to test it again, which unfortunately broke the printer! At least it is dry. Going for tea straight from work, trying out a local Wetherspoons, debating whether to have a burger or risotto. Smoke alarm went off again last night, the only thing I can think of is that I had the electric fire on, the upstairs one must be really sensitive to heat, it’s new though so might have to get the fire brigade out again.

message 12172: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do? Sad story, Mary, but I'd bet that your compassion will say with them like a light.
Went to Spurn Point this morning for a beach walk. It stayed fine and we had a bit of lunch at the visitor centre. Since we got back it's started raining.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Helloooooo

where is everyone?

message 12174: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Offline me, just back on as we had a really big storm, OH pulled the plugs on the WiFi etc. The rain was tropical, came in through the shut windows so had to get soaked pulling the shutters over. It’s foggy now but that’s the first really wet day we’ve had since we’d got here. I found a terrified border collie this morning he must have been scared by the storm. The village guard had to go and get him. Hope they find out where he lives. He had a collar but no tag but he may have a chip. Hope so.
Going out later for tea with a friend then dog walk with my pal.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Got home to an app for my rheumatology follow up – 14th December! Funny 3.5 months. Also made my apps for bloods, flu jab, asthma review and smear test, unfortunately they can’t do it all in one go, so split into two apps. At least the blood results will be in by my second app, so should be able to get them then. Food was OK at Wetherspoons, but not the best vegan burger I’ve had, although at £6.95 including a drink I can’t really complain! Then we had to nip to Morrisons on the way home, of course I came back with cat food!

Blimey Lynne, do hope the dog gets reunited.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do? Been having internet issues with my laptop and it takes ages trying to type on my tablet. I think it's from our local provider (Kingston Communications) upgrading us all to Lightstream. I ended up connected to something that wasn't on the internet!? We've managed to sort it but I won't believe it till I switch on in the morning and I'm still connected.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

Nothing to do again today and I forgot my headphones so I can't listen to my podcast, instead I'm reading on Kindle Cloud. I finish here on Thursday and I am completely stoked to drop Kitty to school and pick her up on Friday :o)

Fingers crossed the collie gets reunited with it's family.

I miss my podcast.

Jim | 21812 comments It just struck me that we've now got technical problems that didn't exist thirty years ago, about the only thing that seems timeless is Jud forgetting her headphones
You could do that since almost the beginning of radio :-)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Happy to say the collie’s owner came to collect him. It’s fine and clear now after the storm. Back to tee shirts but my pal had her gloves on this morning. We Brits are made of sterner stuff.
Packing slowly today, cleaning and leaving everything as ready as possible for winter.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Bit dull here today, not that cold yet though. Downstairs neighbour has visitors staying with an idiot barking dog. Hopefully leaving soon

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Ended up with quite a busy evening, which wasn’t ideal as I was shattered when I got home, so have woken up exhausted. Need to decide whether to just go to the chemist tonight, or also go to the co-op to spend my cat food voucher, or split it over 2 nights – advantages to both. Was very wet and windy this morning, and Lucy opened the door while I was in the shower so the smoke alarm went off again, so she went hiding under the bed. Work still seems mega busy and I’m helping on our switchboard again this afternoon. Interestingly I stumbled across an arthritis forum last night, never realised fatigue was such a big part of psoriatic arthritis, made me feel slightly better.

Sorry you are still struggling for work Jud, glad it is only till Thu, what are you doing after that? Glad to hear collie is back home Lynne.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, decision was made for me last night, was way too exhausted to contemplate walking to the co-op! Ended up in bed before 9, slept through till 3, was up till 5, then was woken up at 6.50 by Lucy. Unfortunately my tracker didn’t recognise me going back to sleep after 3, so said I didn’t have enough! Could have slept longer, but do feel better than yesterday and not struggling as much with my eyes, so they are definitely related to tiredness. Bumped into a friends husband in the chemist, he may be able to fix the hinge on my bedroom door for me next week, so that was a bonus. Very quiet in the office, maybe because the sun is shining!

Very quiet in here this week

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I had a squealy moment this morning getting dressed and felt something scratchy on my back inside my knickers! It was one of those damn stink bugs. Jeepers - did I scream. God knows how it got there. I’m going commando!
Just back from lunch. I’ve got a whopping pile of ironing to do but I really can’t face it but I’d better make a start.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Last day!! Woot. Applied for another job last night and got another couple to finish off.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Omg Lynne not an experience to be repeated I hope.
Couple of what, Jud?

I've been listening to Birdsong Radio today. Very relaxing :)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Lucy woke me up at 5am this morning, don’t think I properly got back to sleep after. Wasn’t convinced I was going to get to work at one point, wasn’t too bad when I got up, but then when I went to go back upstairs to get dressed, the calf in my good leg seemed to seize up and I struggled to get upstairs. Have taken enough tablets to rattle, and it is a lot easier. Think I’ll try and rest tonight and get some food tomorrow. Doesn’t help that our printer is broke, so I have to use a different one – great for step count though.

That sounds a very unpleasant experience Lynne! Don’t blame you for putting off ironing. Good luck with the applications Jud.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Got up, worried about a few things, watched the dawn - and going back to sleep now that I've seen it. Not so exciting when you're wiped.

Sorry you're in the same sleep boat, Desley.

Ick, bugs! Lynne.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do? Had my old work mates and our peri hairdresser here for haircuts and lunch. I made a shepherd's pie with the Jacobs lamb from the farm on the corner, with carrots and pac choi. One of the friends brought a selection of small cakes. I may never eat again. (Yeah, right!)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Had a nice long sleep, feel fairly human although could happily go back to bed. Not got very much housework to do, only a couple of errands and then going to a friends for a couple of hours this afternoon, looking forward to that. Not sure if it is still raining.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments It’s piddling down here too. Isn’t it amazingly the telephone hardly goes but my daughter FaceTimed me on my iPad, then my pal phoned and the other phone went all at once. All sorted now, we are about packed - not much room left in the car, I’ve been warned not to find anything else I want to take back with me. Wales v France tomorrow. That should make some noise in the bar across the square. Pity I haven’t got a Welsh flag.😀

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Rather enjoyable day, if a tad expensive - I was very good in Lidl, I forgot one thing I went for, but apart from one thing I am giving as a present, didn't buy any of the c food - not till next month. I was naughty in our cheap shop though, they had a load of yankee candle votives for £1 each, I seem to have bought 12! Had a good time with my friend, she needed to go to the local retail park for pets at home, I went with her to get the one thing I forgot, and came back with 2 more presents and some cat food! She gave me an amazon voucher she was going to give me for my birthday early, can't decide whether to put it towards a handbag I want or buy some books in a series I want to buy but never go on offer.
