Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

Good luck today Tim, I hope it goes well and sorts you out.

Good luck Alicia, I hope the move goes well.

Hope you aren't too sore today Elizabeth.

I'm meeting up with my old flat mates from Uni, the 4 of us haven't been together since the last wedding which must have been about 4 years ago. One of the girls is moving to Kampala next week so dear only knows when the next get together will be. I'M SO EXCITED!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Good morning! Hope all goes well today for Tim and Alicia in particular, and for everyone else in a generally benevolent sense.

Raining today. All the times I've wished for some and it comes the day I was hoping to pick the damsons. Tomorrow's Cake Club is combining with a coffee morning in aid of the Marie Curie cancer care fund and I thought it would be nice to sell some bags of damsons. You can't get them round here unless you grow them. When I was a kid the Manchester shops were full of them at this time of year, brought in from the Fylde coast and Westmorland.

And I've got cake and biscuits to bake!

Hard luck with the rain Kath. I went out to pick our damsons last weekend and ...... there were none left! The pigeon buggers must have had them when we weren't looking!!

message 7504: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just come it with about 25lb of them. And we've barely made an impression. More to pick on Friday.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh bugger, Tim. I do hope this ordeal is in the past for you soon.

Why is your mate going to Kampala Jud? Dave and I taught there for three years before Nigeria.
It was big and dirty with terrible traffic back then. I understand it's only got worse. I hope she'll be staying in one of the nicer areas.
She'll enjoy the people and culture, though. We loved our time there and remember it fondly.
Redickalus busy day yesterday.
I delivered an intensive English assessment to the year eights. Took all day. Then we went and signed the papers for the new flat. Got back to the hotel about 8pm, pushed some food into our faces and fell into bed.
Got the year threes to do today and the year fours tomorrow.
Really wish I wasn't awake already. Been up since 4am.

message 7510: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4838 comments Patti, sounds like you're making progress.

Tim, so sorry about the postponement. I hate those. They don't let you eat and then it was for naught. Hope it's over soon.

Everyone: Thanks for all the support - your good wishes were definitely with us. The move into our permanent-for-now apartment was done today. The king-sized platform bed with drawers and light bridge fit. Phew!

We're wiped, but everything seems to have made it, and there are a bunch of things to unpack, but we will be settled until this place has a suitable 2 BR - and fixes it up. Meanwhile, the stress is over! The odyssey is at an end for now.

Now I will get the computer back to normal, and get back to writing.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Yay Alicia! May you be happy and healty there.

message 7512: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Oh no, Tim, hope they sort it out today.
Glad you made it intact, Alicia.

Morning, everyone.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments Morning all, disturbed night sleep, then an alarm went off so figured I might as well get up and go to work.

Will reply properly later

message 7514: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well done, Alicia. Take your time to settle in and enjoy it.
Cake club and Marie Curie fundraiser this morning and my main buddy is on hols. I could be washing up till teatime!

message 7515: by L.A. (new)

L.A. Kent | 3925 comments Morning alls. Quiet here, look at this - just me and the gulls at sunrise https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group... . Last week was busy, then the season ended! Brilliant (not that I mind sharing Cornwall or anything ......)

message 7516: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Hope the op goes ahead without further delay Tim and that it sorts out the infection.

Glad to hear you are moved in Alicia and hope you are soon settled.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments Glad you have signed papers for your new flat Patti, when do you get to move in? Glad you have now moved Alicia, and that your bed fit! Glad your stress is over now, and you can start to settle in your new routine and place. Not sure why, but we have been given boxes of Lindt chocolate bars free, we got one each, then our boss came out of a meeting, saw them and brought us all one, he seemed a bit put out when he realised we’d already had one, but we didn’t say no to a second!

message 7518: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Had the op, and they’ve closed the wound. Now hopefully it’s just a matter of time & recovery before the let me go home ...

message 7519: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Fingers crossed Tim.

A propos of nothing much I just popped in to share a nugget ...

I was looking at a reader survey I did and noticed that one gentleman is in a same sex tripart relationship and has been for 7 years. He denies having read any of my books though so I can’t tell if he’s pretending to be Eric out of Escape From B-Movie Hell or it’s real.

Cheers

MTM

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4838 comments Glad to hear of progress, Tim. Healing should ensue. Hope it's not too painful, but it must be reassuring to be past this part.

Now come: 1) moving the rest of our stuff out of the guest suite, and 2) unpacking.

The first is a must, the second will take a long time - and who cares. I want to go talk to the computer gurus before the weekend.

message 7521: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Great news, Tim. Onward and upward!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments Fingers crossed for healing Tim

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Tesco gives kids a free piece of fruit, my grandson picked a nice apple and started on it while I did a small shop this morning. Of course he dropped it, picked it up and carried on eating. After the third floor drop I picked it up and put it in the basket and suggested he got another. No, he wouldn’t but more than that he grabbed the basket and tussled me for it. Shouting and ready to tantrum. I had eggs in there so I wasn’t best pleased. He got it anyway by hanging on and picking his feet off the ground nearly toppling me over as he’s a solid little boy. Then it went under a display, I was so tempted to kick it further but he got it again and at that moment his teacher saw him. He launched himself into a bear hug with her. He told her the tale and she said you can get another and the little monster actually grinned at me as he trotted off to get a replacement apple. Last day of the hols tomorrow, I’m not sad!

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Great news, Tim. Hope the healing is swift.

Glad you're getting nicely settled, Alicia.

Oh Lynne, that was funny (sorry!)

message 7525: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Glad to hear it, Tim, hope you recover soon.

Morning, all. Hoping the weather's a bit less torrential than last night - I got absolutely drenched going to the train.

message 7526: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Morning everyone. Off to Manchester for the day today. The choir I sing in has been invited to sing at the National Emergency Services Memorial Service at Manchester cathedral this afternoon. We're an emergency services choir so we weren't a completely random choice! :) Think there's going to be a few tv cameras there so we might end up on the news!!

Finished my first year now as well, second year starts Monday!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments Morning all, woke up early again. Hoping for a quiet day, food shopping on the way home then going for birthday drinks with a friend.

Sorry Lynne, that is so funny. Hope you enjoy the choir Claire.

message 7528: by L.A. (new)

L.A. Kent | 3925 comments Good job Tim after the false start! Rest up and get well soon.

message 7529: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! Got a hedge to cut then off for lunch with some old friends. It's a hard life!

I love choral singing, Claire. I sang in a choir my whole life until the leader of the last one retired and there was nothing else nearby. Now I sing at home... still married!

message 7530: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

Last day in my current post! I had a lovely couple of days with my old flatmates, it was just like going back in time 10 years.

Patti, they are moving to Kampala to work for EMI (Engineering Ministries International). They have a house in a small secure compound with other ex-pats but I don't think they are all working for EMI. No idea what area of Kampala they are in either.

Glad you've had your op Tim and fingers crossed you'll be fighting fit again soon.

We're heading back to Aberdeen tomorrow, booked it on Tuesday evening!

Got them all now I think and sent the perpetrator a stroppy message informing him if he does it again he is history. Been out for hours or would have dealt with him sooner :)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all.
Off to a friend's wedding tonight, then doing the Great North Run tomorrow. I have doubts about whether this is a sensible plan.

There are still a couple lingering in Book recommendation threads.

Morning.
The downside of taking over from carers is that I don't get my lazy Saturday lie in.

Planning to do some crafting today if I can get Mum to join in. I'm meeting my crafty friends for a few days up in County Durham.
We go to a big craft shop for workshops and then do our own projects in the evenings, so altogether we should be making about 10 different things. So I want to try out some ideas for scrapbook pages that will be a project for my friends to do when it's my turn for an evening project.

Driving up to County Durham I am going to make a day out of the trip with a short detour to Fountains Abbey. On the day I leave I am driving all the way down to West Wales for a couple of days then bringing Mum home from my sister's. I need to plan that route with a good stopping place on the way.

message 7542: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning each! Been busy - the usual sitting on by butt at the keyboard type busy. Must do some more cookery type busy now.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments Morning all, despite a few awkward moments last night, I had a really good time, didn't get in till after 2am! Not sure my tummy appreciated my supper though. Despite not having a lot of sleep, I am unable to get back to sleep, hopefully will get a nap this afternoon. Luckily it started raining after I got home, but not sure it has stopped this morning. Think a bit of housework and a lot of lying on the sofa is in order.

Hope you have a good time Janet

message 7544: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4838 comments I like the sound of lying on the sofa, but, alas!, we have no sofa.

And an awfully large number of boxes to unpack. I need to find some power strips to feed all my greedy computer accessories.

Soon and very soon... I will be able to get back to work.

An entire thread has just appeared in this section of the board I'm afraid .....

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments It’s gone now Pam. Must be silly season or something. Been out most of the day again or would have zapped it earlier. I fear the power has gone to my head :)

Anyone seen Jim lately?

message 7547: by Kath (last edited Sep 08, 2018 12:21PM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments He's back with his transplant surgery!
Edit - the annoying spammer, not Jim.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments That’s his last chance...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Jim seems to have been MIA since the 30th of August. Thats strange...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12602 comments Morning all, downside of my early night is that I was awake very early. I barely did any housework yesterday, so lots to do today. Raining again, so not sure I'm going to bother leaving my house. Think I'll have a nice soak in the bath this evening.

Yes, it is odd, not sure there has been a blog post since then either.
