It was a funny book. Question: Have you read Metamorophosis by Franz Kafka. What's it like?

Finished yesterday Patria by Fernando Aramburu. Five stars; probably the best book read this year.

I used to teach Kafka's The Metamorphosis. I love it. I think it's hilarious. But my students never seemed to see the funny side of it. I would laugh so hard that tears trickled down my face. Meanwhile my students would be staring at me with horrified expressions.
Either I have a weird sense of humor or I'm a pretty sick individual. Perhaps both :)

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1415 comments I finished The Fishermen by Chigozie Obioma.

Very well written, full of mythic and tragic overtones. I thought it well deserved to be short listed for the 2015 Man Booker Prize.

Chrissie Miss Lonelyhearts by Nathanael West is a classic I do not like!

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I am sure glad it was short.

Paul (paa00a) | 202 comments A combination of finishing books I'd been working through for months and a couple of quick reads pushed me over my reading goal for the year (75 books) and pushed me just 10 away from topping my total from last year (89). :-)

PattyMacDotComma Evan Smoak is still answering his phone and asking the desperate callers "Do you need my help?" Well, duh! Of course, that's why were given the secret number of The Nowhere Man! This is #2 in Gregg Hurwitz's action-packed Orphan X series.

Chrissie I added in another short story by W. Somerset Maugham --The Luncheon. It was good and will definitely make you laugh.

Diane found it and I had to read it too.

PattyMacDotComma The early teens sure can be tricky! Crush, by Svetlana Chmakova, is Awkward #3 in a big comic series for kids in middle school. Covers heaps of issues. My review, with many screen shots:

PattyMacDotComma Maurice Swift, author, is the thoroughly reprehensible creation of wonderful real author John Boyne in his new book A Ladder to the Sky. I absolutely loved hating him - Maurice, of course, not John!
