That is on the Guardian's list of 1000 novels that I am working on so it's good to hear your opinion (1000 being too many to actually read!). I have been intrigued by the other books by Gide I have read.

Leslie | 16369 comments I finished The Death of the Heart, which was beautifully written but not my kind of book. 3*

Also I finished The Beautiful and Damned in audiobook, which I liked more than I had anticipated - 4*

It's the first book I've read by this author and I liked it. I found the book on a stand with used books; I liked the title and I was sure to have read somewhere positive opinions about this author, but I think that I confused his name with that of another French author.
Which books have you read by him? Which would you recommend?

Finished many books at the seaside; but none that has struck me as last year's A Little Life.
Probably one of the best was The Fountain Overflows, even if I've found it a bit ... too much

I have read The Immoralist and Strait is the Gate. They both gave me a lot to think about but I liked Strait is the Gate better so I would recommend that one.

When in University I was studying English and German Literature. But my fellows students studying French one year had a course on Gide, and they had to read The Immoralist, La symphonie pastorale and La Porte étroite. I've so many of them talking about them that I can't think of reading them myself!!!!

PattyMacDotComma I read the first of a thriller series, Orphan X by Gregg Hurwitz. Evan Smoak is the Nowhere Man, the one you need to find when you can’t get help anywhere.

PattyMacDotComma Some historical 'faction' in R.J. Gadney's fictionalised biography, Albert Einstein Speaking. He was a real character and a trial to his teachers (and lovers).
