Leslie | 16369 comments I finished The Guns of Navarone yesterday -- even better than the movie version!

My review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

PattyMacDotComma Just finished Everything Here Is Beautiful, although of course it isn't. Mira T. Lee tells the story of what I'd describe as the frustrating devotion of an older sister to her younger.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1416 comments I finished Eowyn Ivey's To The Bright Edge of the World inspired by the real life journey of Lieutenant Colonel Allen Forrester through Alaska’s unchartered territory in the 1880s. The narrative unfolds through journal entries, diaries, artifacts, newspaper clippings, etc. It is unique in many ways. I ended up loving it.

PattyMacDotComma Just read and LOVED Reservoir 13 by Jon McGregor. No wonder his work regularly makes the Man Booker Prize longlist. Such beautiful, easy reading.

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1416 comments Finished Till we have Faces by C.S. Lewis. Lewis uses the myth of Cupid and Psyche as a vehicle to explore human love and love for the divine. Can be read as an allegory.

Jenny Powel | 2 comments I just finished Atelophobia by Hailey Riely and I have to say that she may be my favorite poet now. She is kind of like lang leav and rupi kaur but her book is in the format of a story and from the girl and guys point of view so it's pretty unique what she did I think.

Dale Harcombe | 1947 comments Just read A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult.

Is it is as good as Leaving Time (my personal favorite Picoult)?

message 2434: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma If it were a novel, you wouldn't believe it! Ali Gripper has written the story of The Barefoot Surgeon: The inspirational story of Dr Sanduk Ruit, the eye surgeon giving sight and hope to the world's poor.

Indefatigable isn't a strong enough word for him.

PattyMacDotComma Just read a kids' book, Power to the Princess by Vita Weinstein Murrow. Get rid of the Disney and the poor grammar and it could have potential.

Leslie | 16369 comments I have finished The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I gave this 3* but that came from my indecision between 2* and 4*. It is, I suspect, somewhat of a 'marmite' book -- you either really like it or really dislike it. I disliked the writing style but felt McCarthy did a terrific job in world-building. His dystopian world was incredibly bleak, which was depressing but convincing.

dely | 5214 comments Yesterday I've read a very short book during a train trip. Though very short, it was very thought provoking and it's a book I would recommend to everyone, not only those that are into religion.

The Pastoral Symphony by André Gide 4*

Yes, it really is a marmite book for most. I fell into the really dislike it camp when I read it.
