Ray 🌿 (reagan) | 1 comments Recently finished reading For One More Day by Mitch Albom and I have to say it's been a second since I found a book that got to the core of how human I feel sometimes and then proceeded to tear me to ~shreds~. A magnificent read, I'd recommend it to anyone with a brain.

His books certainly do pack an emotional punch.

Kathleen | 401 comments This thread is one of my favorites on Goodreads! I love your suggestions and opinions and discussions. I was way behind, but caught up and have now added another pile to the TBR.

My latest favorite was my last major Jane Austen, Mansfield Park. I know it's not the most popular position to take, but I am a huge fan of Fanny! My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I don't like chicklit but had heard so many recommendations I was going to watch the TV series until I realised it stars Reese Witherspoon (ugh!). So I requested a copy from Net Galley and ended up really enjoying it.

I have to admit I was worried when they moved the TV series from Sydney's northern beaches to coastal California, but they did a great job. The mothers and kids and school relationships translated very well and probably made it a little more accessible for American viewers, I think.

PattyMacDotComma Aussie author and now American citizen Geraldine Brooks set her novel Caleb's Crossing in early colonial America. Good book, but I wish she'd included a colonial dictionary.

Petra | 3324 comments I read the graphic novel, Here by Richard McGuire, today.
I really liked this history of one place. Richard McGuire took one corner of one room and showed the history of that small space of land from prehistoric to future times. I liked that historical/futuristic perspective which works for any spot of land anywhere in the world. Each spot has it's history & its future.

Yes, I was told it wouldn't be my style, but I think it has more depth to it that most chick lit. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it.

I liked how it started but after a while I was tired reading it: too many characters, too many topics etc.

PattyMacDotComma I am such a fan of acclaimed Aussie author Tim Winton. Whether it's fiction, non-fiction or articles about the environment, politics, or men and boys, he captures places and voices, young and old, better than anybody.

Of course I loved his recent The Shepherd's Hut.
