and
Train Dreams by Denis JohnsonReview: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I read A Passage North by Anuk Arudpragasam.Disappointing. The focus is primarily on the main character instead of on those who suffered during the civil war in Sri Lanka. His extensive navel-gazing was irritating.
The novel just wasn't for me.

I am reposting this in remembrance of much-loved neurologist Oliver Sacks on his birthday, the 9th of July. The extraordinary cases he talks about in his 1985 book,The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat are unforgettable.

Everybody deserves A Little Bit of Respect, and this delightful children's picture book from Claire Alexander shows even grown-ups how easy it is to slip up (and embarrass ourselves 😊 ).

I only just missed Nikola Tesla's birthday (July 9) when I read the children's bio by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. It's another in the great Little People BIG DREAMS series about historic figures.
4★ My review of Nikola Tesla with several illustrations
Leavers, Schoolies, Spring Break - whatever you call it when kids on the brink of adulthood take off on their own - parents hope for the best. Guess what? Town destination refused entry, so where to go? The Brink, Brink Island, an isolated island off the coast of Western Australia, of course. Western Australian author Holden Sheppard understands this place and these kids.
4★My review of The Brink
