Chrissie I had no idea that Jack London wrote a book such as
this: Martin Eden. It is ever different from his books of life in the wild. Several have read this here in the group.

Leslie | 16369 comments Well, I finished Manon Lescaut today. I haven't written a review yet but this French classics was not for me. I gave it 2* but really 1½* is more accurate! Maybe a more modern translation would have helped (I had the free public domain one) but unlikely.

Now I need a book I can lose myself in!

PattyMacDotComma Something different but wonderful for history and/or adventure-lovers is Paradise in Chains: The Bounty Mutiny and the Founding of Australia by historian (and excellent tale-teller) Diana Preston. It's hard to believe all this is true!

I loved it and quoted quite a lot about Bligh's colourful character.

Have you read the author's Half of a Yellow Sun? This is my favorite by the author, followed by Purple Hibiscus. If you very much enjoyed Americanah, you are sure to enjoy these too.
