Michelle Frances graduated from Bournemouth Film School and then from the Masters programme at the American Film Institute, Los Angeles. Returning to London, she has worked for several years in film and TV as a script editor and producer for both the independent sector and the BBC.

Her first novel, The Girlfriend, became an international best seller. She is also the author of The Temp, The Daughter and Sisters.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Get writing something and after a while…moreIf I'm having a 'stuck' day then I'll try a number things. Firstly, I find it sometimes helps if I just start. Get writing something and after a while it starts to flow. If this doesn't work then the reason it's not flowing can be because there's something wrong with the plot and so I'll sit back and put myself in the place of the character and think hard about what they'd do in the circumstances they find themselves. And if neither of these work it can sometimes help if I just get a change of scene. Even moving to another room can often unlock any problems!(less)
