PattyMacDotComma I just enjoyed the thought-provoking second book of the Monkeewrench mystery series, Live Bait by mother-daughter duo P.J. Tracy. As if the concentration camp hadn't been bad enough, a Holocaust survivor is murdered. I'm glad there are more of these to look forward to!
Live Bait (Monkeewrench, #2) by P.J. Tracy 4.5★ Link to my Live Bait review

PattyMacDotComma Butterfly Blink: A Book Without Words is another colourful conversation-starter for children by Karl Beckstrand. As the title suggests, no words are necessary - except for the person answering the inevitable questions!

PattyMacDotComma I just enjoyed The Old Men Who Row Boats and Other Stories, a collection of stories that take place in Spain and Portugal. Author David Joseph has a good feeling for his people and the places where we meet them.

Finished two books on women - I'm happening to read a lot on female literature lately: Not Out of Hate: A Novel of Burma by Journal Kyaw Ma Ma Lay and La restauratrice di libri by Katerina Poladjan.
Not masterpieces, neither of them. Still interesting reads

Raul | 745 comments I finished Survival in Auschwitz by Primo Levi. An incredible book that took me some time to finish and review, my review can be found here:

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1410 comments I read The Remainder by Alia Trabucco Zerán; translated from the Spanish by Sophie Hughes.
Haunted by their parents’ activism during the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile, the protagonists are the remainders, burdened with the corpses of the past and seeking a way to bury them. A compelling narrative.

PattyMacDotComma Based on a real event in Poland in 1941, Winter Journey by Aussie author Diane Armstrong is a reminder of what we are capable of, both good and bad.

PattyMacDotComma Graham Brack is a favourite author of mine. The Vanishing Children is the latest Master Mercurius mystery set in the Netherlands in the 17th century. I'm very fond of this gentle, witty cleric whom William of Orange keeps dragging away from his comfortable university post to work for him. History, mystery, and humour - love it!

Esther (eshchory) | 1368 comments I have just finished The Girl and the Stars (Book of the Ice, #1) by Mark Lawrence The Girl and the Stars.
I really enjoyed it but as so often happens with the first book in the series it didn't have a proper ending so only 3 stars

Tamara Agha-Jaffar | 1410 comments I read The Children of Jocasta by Natalie Haynes. I loved her A Thousand Ships, so I was looking forward to this. But Haynes deviates too much from the original myth so it is barely recognizable as the story of Oedipus and Antigone. Disappointing in many ways.

Raul | 745 comments I finished reading At Night All Blood is Black by David Diop

A story about a WW1 African soldier. An interesting and important book, but one that left me underwhelmed. My review:

PattyMacDotComma Aussie B Michael Radburn is a reliable, go-to author for thrilling mysteries. The Reach is the third featuring Park Ranger Taylor Bridges in a beautiful (though terrifying!) Australian bush setting.
